Martian Manhunter was one I don;t think I ever read. I vaguely recall skimming an issue, if that.

I think it was Grindberg's art that made me really drop the book though. It was Tom Mandrake, not Tom Grindberg. Personally, I love Mandrake's swirly, shadowy art, but I can see how it's not to everyone's taste.

Mandrakes were supposed to be magical plants that would wail if you dug them up.

Mandrake the Magician was voiced by Peter Reneday in "Defenders of the Earth". Reneday also played Grapple in "Transformers" and the Master Renegade in "GoBots".

I remember watching an episode of Defenders of the Earth. I was amazed at how all these heroes came together. And then I read issues of the Justice League...

It was Tom Mandrake, not Tom Grindberg. According to the Giant Comics database thingy, it was Grindberg before Mandrake. I've probably not read huge amounts of mandrake drawn stories, but it was really Grindberg that sunk the title for me.

Ah, okay. I probably blocked out Grindberg's art. He was a really bad Neal Adams imitator, IIRC.

Oh yes, I hadn't thought about the Adams comparison before. Thanks Fickles. I hadn't got past thoughts of "yuck" really

My main exposure to Neal Adams was in Green Lantern/Green Arrow. He did quite a good job.

The Adams Chronicles was an early TV mini-series about the Massachusetts political family.

This one was most prominent in the 18th and 19th Centuries. It, of course, included the second and sixth presidents of the United States.

Our Vice President has a daughter in the Senate, another in Congress, and his son is the mayor of their home city. Wow! There must be a lot of talent running through that family [searches in vain for a graemlin to convey the magnitude of sarcasm] People love people with a sense of humor. But no one loves a smart arse. It's a fine line between funny and smart-arsery. A line I hope that crowd with torches and pitchforks decides not to cross.

Oh dear. What is that commotion outside my window? Are those people holding placards saying "die Invi..." aaaaahhh!!!! Our Vice President has a daughter in the Senate, another in Congress, and his son is the mayor of their home city. Wow! There must be a lot of talent running through that family [searches in vain for a graemlin to convey the magnitude of sarcasm] They and people like them are so thick-skinned that no amount of sarcasm can pierce their hides. Here's another - former president convicted of plunder was pardoned by the next president and is now mayor of our former capital. He has two sons by different mothers in the senate. And one son has also been arrested and is awaiting trial for plunder. (Bangs head on wall)

Don't bang your head on the wall, Ibby. You'll leave a mark.

The best flavor of ice cream is peppermint.
Keep up with what I've been watching lately! "Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you."

I always say the test of ice cream is vanilla. You can mask bad ice cream with other flavors, but not vanilla.
