...added that I think the man (who was African-American) asked if we were the only non-Asians. While Americans often use the word "Asian" to mean only East Asians, I didn't think it a point worth explaining that people who are ethnically South Asian are also Asian.

Asia IS pretty big. There's also the Middle East and parts of the former Soviet Union and Part of Turkey... Because peoples from those parts of Asia are visibly distinctive to us from East Asians, they generally get separate identifiers, like our friend "Indian" Lad, who many would assume is Middle Eastern. Basically, I think we carve the world into Asians, Muslims, Native Americans, Whites and Hispanics. Penguins find this personally insulting as do the occasional other peoples.

Many people still do not know that much about the world and make assumptions based on familiarity.

Been having this same conversation with a friend and of course the enlightened know that penguins are the people the rest of us aspire to be. Today I watched the Legion episode of Justice League Unlimited.

After some poor night's sleep this week, had a long lie in today, a quick dentist appointment (Saturdays! finally!) and am now watching the footy with the cat.

...went through some boxes of old papers I had in storage. It was truly bittersweet to see drawings I did almost 20 years ago when I still had the fire and the hunger to do so. I think if things had turned out differently, I really could have been the next Colleen Doran or Amanda Conner. Please forgive the self-pity, I assure you it'll pass. But for now...
