Mr. Creosote was the character in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life who ate so much, that upon consuming an after-dinner "wafer-thin mint" he literally exploded.

There's nothing like creosoting a fence to bring out your zen.

"Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu" was the first comic book to use Zen concepts.

David Carradine, of Kung Fu fame, was fond of "potentially deadly" sex acts, according to his ex wife. One of the acts, ended up being on the wrong side of potentially.

From Zen to fatal kinkiness in one post! That must be some new record!

A googly is a delivery in cricket where the bowler gets the ball to spin the opposite way to the way it normally goes.

Generations of Mexican children were warped by the anodyne inanities of Cri-Cri the singing cricket.

Giant crickets were mercifully rarely seen in the rather splendid Quatermass and the Pit.

"Welcome to Wherever You Are" was the title of INXS's most underrated album, released in 1992. Basically, it sold poorly because in the era that made whiners with bad hygiene musically fashionable, there was thought to be no room for anyone else.

Writers of the US show Fashion Police went on strike over pay entitlements, as their contracts said they only worked 8 hours a week, regardless of what they actually did. Having never seen it, I can't slate it, although I am tempted.

I always wondered where the phrase "out of sorts" came from.

One phrase I just can't get is "you can't have your cake and eat it too". So what am I going to do with my cake? Use it as a paperweight?

Well, if you eat your cake, then you no longer have it. That's what it means. If you hold on to it, then you can't enjoy it.

Still, the expression makes little sense. I mean... who wants to just have cake and not eat it? It's not like this is a choice between two equally appealing options.

It could be a piece of wedding cake, held for posterity, or until the divorce.

You could have baked the cake for your bakery shop window where it's for display not scoffing.

The cake could actual be false, and prepared to sneak someone out of prison. Eating it beforehand would spoil the plan.

You could be saving your cake to give to the masses who are going to revolt, or to the revolting masses to make them go away.

Many years ago, I put a piece of wedding cake under my pillow to see if I would dream of my true love. I dreamed I was in a room filled with strangers.
