The dynamic in my friend group is a lot like what you describe Ibby. We constantly tease each other, but we're all still friends.

Keep up with what I've been watching lately!

Friends ran for ten years on NBC and has now given two generations of young adults an unrealistic vision of life for that age group.

Oh, Friends was horrible. Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow each had one single facial expression (surprised and sour, respectively).

I think the dialogue was better than the acting, myself.

I enjoyed the first season of Friends in its original run because it was the first show I remember with an adult cast all of whom were supposed to be just my age (in fact, Matthew Perry is exactly ten days older than I); however, it got old quickly after that.

I find the same to be true of many of these comedy shows where the status quo never really changes. Entertaining, but not something I would follow from start to end.

On the other hand, shows that move away from their successful formula are taking a chance of moving away form their core audience. Likewise, the writers must continue to be successful at mining those changed circumstances, rather than getting as much out of what made the show work in the first place.

There's something else that reminds me of....nope...it's gone ...;)

yeah, my memoirs are going to be pretty short. A foreword from someone, hopefully talking about the beauty of minimalism.

There are some comedies where the status quo doesn't change that work very well. I could watch Keeping Up Appearances on an endless loop and not be tired of Hyacinth's hijinks.

A lot of animes are like that too. I prefer the ones where characters change.

A lot of the classic 7-minute cartoons are like that, too, but sometimes it works beautifully. Like Rocky with Keeping Up Appearances, I could watch Chuck Jones' Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote cartoons in an endless loop and never get tired of them. I generally think that Jones was overrated, but his Road Runners had such a wonderful purity of expression to them that I think they're by far his greatest accomplishment.

Yes, it's amazing in hindsight how many different variations on the same theme Jones and his writers were able to come up with!

As opposed to discussing the sounds of silence? wink

We can discuss that or any other Simon and Garfunkel song. I've always liked them.

I like the Lemonheads' cover of S&G's "Mrs. Robinson".

I'm pretty sure Crusoe was dead the whole time.
