Another thing on the radio yesterday was a documentary on the makers of Wallace and Gromit. They were influenced by Ray Harryhausen. So, with that and the mention of the Hydra, it's only a matter of time before Jason and the Argonauts gets a play.

As much as i like classical mythology, it's really all about the Harryhausen effects such as the animated skeletons. I could watch 90 minutes of that really.

Much like the last three Star Wars film are memorable because of the light sabre fights. 90 minutes of that would have been an improvement.

Who knew they'd be so dynamic after Alec Guiness' classic duel.

Special effects can certainly make a mediocre movie watchable.

I'm reminded that after decades of quality acting in great films and being at the pinnacle of respect for his craft, it took Star Wars to make Alec Guinness really wealthy.

I'm more a fan of Bass than Guinness.

Last summer, our choir had its end-of-the-year party at the English-style pub where we normally have such things. Their draft mechanism wasn't working, so they didn't have any of their drafts, which included both the aforementioned. I ended up getting a bottle of Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. Someone asked if there was a lighter version of it. I joked, "Yes, it's called Anastasia."

All about that Bass, 'bout that Bass, no Guinness...

My fellow choristers also liked it, especially the lead tenor, who has a very similar sense of humor to mine.

The humor here in the Philippines often consists of teasing one another mercilessly. It takes time to develop a sense of what is fair game, what is not, and when the timing is right - even if everyone else laughs, the target might think you went too far

Though a lot of my friends would appreciate the humor on LW, none of them are Legion fans. As I was telling Indy today, other than on LW, I know very few people who are at all familiar with the Legion.

I lent my Legion comics to a total of 6 people from high school onwards. At least two still look back on the Postboot Legion fondly.

There was no way that I could ask the question without it sounding cheeky. I was just curious. The punchline is a really well known historical figure, but sometimes you get a group of people that don't know what you're talking about.

The next joke is usually themed with Westerns, to match the tumbleweed going past.

And that people are considerate enough to think on those terms, says a lot about the genuine niceness of LW. Just ignore the cries of the emotionally crushed victims behind us smile

I find that more people know about films, TV shows and sometimes cartoons than the comics. I've a few acquaintance that read comics, but it's through another hobby. So my own Legion reading remains a bit under the radar.

Lend them? To people who may not treat them as treasures? Gah!

And was not the sister of Condoleezza Rice, the former secretary of state as I first thought.

Someone with one of those names that are just made for disaster.

Like my cousin Temperance Kins. We have to keep him chained up on New Year's eve. Most weekends too, actually...
