When I bought my condo 11 years ago, the significant other of the seller was wearing a T-shirt that said:

And absolutely no Rice!

I think they may have been Democrats.

A diet without rice? That sounds like my worst nightmare!

Giving up rice is tough, especially when your native cuisine is full of dishes with rich, thick sauces that go so well with rice!

That would be like gravy that would also be served with fried chicken, one presumes.

I've never been a fan of gravy.

I really like KFC gravy. I avoid it now as part of my diet.

Here in the US, KFC only serves gravy with mashed potatoes.

The same is true for much of Southeast and East Asia. The Philippines is just different our cuisine is among the unhealthiest in the world, full of fat and sugar.

I think I prefer the Guatemalan chicken restaurant Pollo Campero. They don't have gravy, that I'm aware, but they do have plaintains and yucca.

Latin Americans sure know how to prepare chicken!

Not that I'm biased or anything, being a Latina myself.

Pollo Campero is also not overly greasy. It's served with corn tortillas.

No, though I have eaten their fried chicken in a tortilla.

I love Mexican food! Blaze and i would really love to visit Mexico.

We had a great authentic Mexican restaurant here in Houston. For several years, my best friend and I had dinner there once a week. Then, this past year, the owners decided to relocate to a more upscale neighborhood. The prices went up, the quality suffered, and the atmosphere isn't as pleasant. It would be sad if it closed, but I know many formerly loyal customers who won't go back.

What was the name of that restaurant?

That was Pico's. I actually went to the original with Exnihil when he came to Houston in August of 2013. Have you ever been?

Nope, I've never been.

The original was a real classic. It wasn't fancy, but it was consistently good. I guess the owners wanted something more prestigious. Almost everyone I know who has gone to the new place has said they'll never go back.

That sounds sad. Sometimes change isn't always for the better.

In this case, it really isn't. I miss old Pico's.

I know how that feels, Rocky. That happened to one of my favorite Chinese restaurants.

It's an unfortunate pattern. Restaurant is successful. Restaurant decides it will more successful elsewhere. It flops.
