First time I wore mittens was on a trip to Harbin, China. It's right by the border with Russia. My ears still hurt thinking about it.

Just avoiding a hail shower coming home. Not as bad as many folks, so can;t complain.

The only times I've experienced snow have been in China and Japan. I'm looking forward to experiencing it in Europe, the USA, Argentina or Nepal.

I'd be delighted if we could ship our winter elsewhere

I'd love to experience it for a day, but I don't think I could stomach it for the next 2 months

It's barely started here, yet it's cold and three days out of five had train delays last week.

It's getting cooler here too, but certainly not as bad as over there.

Of course, the new typhoon is coming up...

Pshaw, I never subscribed to the belief that good friends hanging out on online message boards need to use a common yardstick to determine whether complaints should be counted as whining or not. By all means, complain about the weather all you want.

"Pshaw" is "supposed" to be pronounced like "shaw", but I don't know anyone who doesn't pronounce the P.

When I started playing clarinet at age 12 I did not yet realize the non-musical advantages that would come from all the tongue work.

In the Big Band era, the clarinet was often referred to as the licorice stick.

I've never tasted licorice.

I'm not a big fan of candy canes, either. Or candy in general.

Chocolate, on the other hand...

Yes, chocolate is not candy. It's chocolate.

It's nutritious! In the right amounts.

Chocolate is all four food groups.

Cacao bean is a vegetable.

Beans count as meat.

Milk chocolate is obviously dairy.

Sugar is a carbohydrate, as is found in grains.

Maybe not meat, but certainly protein. Good enough.

The four food groups were phased out for the food pyramid many years ago, but the group for protein foods was always called meat.

A lot of animated and puppet PSAs of the '70s and 80s were about the four food groups.

I 'm working hard at giving up "bad" carbohydrates. Excessive sugar and salt can be a problem though, especially when processed food is the only choice available.
