Years ago, as we were leaving work, I offered to take a coworker who is also a dear friend out to dinner. She asked me "Where are you going to take me?" I turned to her and whispered in her ear "I'm going to take you right here and now!" She laughed and then I laughed till we both cried. "Right here and now" has become a running gag among our friends.

Halloween is funny. I don't know if it's still the case, but when I was growing up, Halloween ceased to be "cool" once you hit 12 or 13, not becoming "cool" again until some time in high school. In that in-between age, it was "kid stuff".
I personally could take or leave Halloween at this point. That's still the case from my experience growing up. It's how girls transition from cute cat costumes as little kids to slutty cat costumes as adults.

um...those weren't people dressing up as slutty prostitutes EDE...
We do murder mystery nights around Halloween, based on a 1930s horror game Call of Cthulhu. It's turned out to be an excellent way of getting together with some folks I don't see a huge amount of through the year.

Did you get any tips? Other than people telling you to wear something different, that is

My go-to costumes the last several years have been pirate and cowboy, with occasional variations thereon.

I'm not going to explain "foam party". Just Google it. Not my scene, thanks.

I remember we had a foam party on campus at one of the frat houses last month. I, of course, did not attend.

I pretended that the party was a foam party, but in truth the washing machine had just broke.

I think I knew I was an adult when I owned my own washing machine. I'm also very found of my dishwasher. I know people who own dishwashers and never use them. Not me, thanks. I love mine!

Don't tell Rocky, but his dishwasher is having an affair with another homeowner.

It's the lady next door, isn't it? I'll bet her dishes are easier to clean than mine!

Yes. And she also lets your dishwasher kill the occasional thread too.

It IS a friendly fight, though Besides, what poor pathetic thread would let itself be killed by a dishwasher?

My grandmother, whose English was a little sketchy, referred to the dishwasher as the "wash-a-dish".

Considering so many of your other posts, Ibby, there's every chance that's a euphemism. I went shopping to find people rushing around buying tat because Black Friday has reached our shores on a larger scale than ever. I just wanted a pint of milk and some bread (which weren't discounted) and had to put up with them.
