It was better than part one, but still not much legion Action, and even less Dawnstar than last issue. In fact all I think she does is scream "Drake!"

Wildfire shows up because he also got J'onn's signal, tries to take on Captain Atom directly and gets trounced. That's about it.

And now, sadly, people will think Wildfire has super cannon fodder powers.

He doesn't? We're talking about the guy who periodically goes boom, and whose main attack is a suicide blast, right?

Of course, there's much more to Wildfire than that. There's his incessant whining over Dawny

Dawny actually has a larger role in Part 2, but she still doesn't use her tracking power. As someone said earlier, she's being used for her wing appeal; otherwise she could be any random team member.

Of the heroes, Wildfire has probably the third most significant role...bigger than even Cyborg or Flash. And he acts like Wildfire, even doing his signature "blast enemy / get blasted out of suit / take a while to recombine in suit" routine.

Yeah, but he gets to do it over and over and over again Like a reusable kamikaze.

Like his whining over Dawny oddly enough

Dawny is the only one who can put a stop to that

"The Reusable Kamikaze" would make a great story title. Mind if I borrow it, Ibby?

The most interesting thing about this Future's End business is that fact that it appears that two Legionnaires will be joining the Justice League. Considering the next issue blurb teases the Legion, you'd think they would have used the appearance of two Legionnaires to make the Legion seem more interesting leading up to it.

Even though Wildfire getting blasted out of his suit is an old staple of the character, it hasn't been such a regular thing since he came back during the threeboot. He just doesn't have a ton of suits lying around anymore. (which was a big part of "Legion Lost" and makes me wonder how they'll address that in JLU if he does end up a member -- just no "Red Tornado's body" nonsense please!)

Even in the Postboot, Wildfire rarely got blasted out of his suit. I just assumed that his dissipated energy returned to him after he unleashed it. Same as with the Preboot; even if he ejected from his suit he could come back. And despite firing all those energy blasts he never seemed to run out or be in danger of running out.

Thanks muchly, Ibby. Drake's my favorite male Legionnaire, and I've wanted to do a story focusing on him for a long time.

Looking forward, Fanfie! Drake is one of the very few hotheaded/loudmouthed characters I actually LIKE. It helps that we know his arrogance is a way to mask his feelings of loss towards his physical body.

In Future's End his suit is not destroyed. It just collapses like a balloon when the energy dissipates. And all Drake's energy reassembles in his suit fairly quickly from "all over the planet" by the time the battle ends.

I thought there would be more similarity between him and Captain Atom. Since they are both energy beings.

Drake in his original outfit could duplicate the powers of many Legionnaires. Each subsequent costume was supposed to modify the powers slightly, and none matched up to the original.

That was back when they would destroy the suits, which they seem to have forgotten abut here.

Drake as Anti- Matter Man II?

Nah, Wildfire has always been a being of 'anti-energy'. He and Captain Atom ought to be at an impasse, neither able to triumph over the other, like the Positive Man versus the Negative Creature.

O'course Captain Atom has all that "linked to the quantum field" and ricocheting all through time thing going on now, so I don't know what his powers really do, and probably neither does anyone else.

Captain Atom sucks now. To me anyway. He's a character I can't care about in any way.

Just another example of the folks running DC these days not knowing what to do with one of their characters.

When this title started, a couple of decades back, it was fantastic! Now... not so much so.

Not unlike a former best-selling title about super teens from 1000 years in the future.

His DCNu book had him as a Dr Manhattan/Solar/ Firestorm cross where his powers and isolation were important factors.

Not as much empathy as the framed soldier experimented upon and catapulted through time.

Captain Atom always kept his humanity in previous incarnations. Even when he was covered with that alien metal thing, he was still very human underneath -physically, mentally, emotionally.

I just saw a blurb for World's End (the Earth-2 followup to Future's End apparently). The main selling point seems to be that someone dies every issue. I guess that's what mainstream comics are all about these days.

I've always favored the independent/alternative titles over the more popular ones, but this is the first time I've given up on mainstream comics entirely.

Really not excited about Dawnstar and Wildfire left in the past. I hope this current storyline helps the Legion Lost team find their way home.

The only upside, if they use Legion Lost characters in ways that become popular with readers at large, and then take them back to the 31st century, it might help pave the way for a new Legion series.
