Reboot Tasmia, codenamed Umbra, was much closer to how I had come to envision her -- rather haughty, rather abrasive, but always noble and regal. My favorite Reboot appearances include the Steve Lightle-drawn DnA issue that spotlights her (The Legion #24) and Starman #50. Oh, and Reboot Tasmia always had great hair.
Umbra had a very nice character development arc in the Reboot. When she was first introduced, she ragged on Magno's eternal cheerfulness and earned a lecture from Sensor for her extreme negativity. It was revealed that Tasmia was sent away from Talok VIII because she rather aggressively stood in the way of UP membership. She saw the UP as an imperialistic entity which would wipe out Talok VIII's unique cultures. She reached her peak in Legion Lost. When Imra went into her mind and removed all her doubts and fears, she became impossible to deal with. When she got better, she showed a humbler and more cooperative side (yet was still haughty and abrasive, especially towards those who deserve it). And in Legion 24, she returned to Talok VIII and showed how much she had grown, chastising them for hiding when they were the ones who had sent her away in the first place. She also showed how much she valued her teammates. Umbra as of Legion 24 is my favorite Shady. She can be emotional and aggressive, but still controlled and measured.

![[Linked Image]](http://i57.tinypic.com/29kq83m.jpg) Shady showing her planetary champion status by taking out an enemy of her people in Lady Memory. Memory, who also defeated Mon-El, would have beaten nearly any other Talokian champion, but Tasmia's Legion training, focus and experience puts her in a different class. For good measure, she then takes out the Persuader in the same issue. The Persuader still had a bit of shine to him back then as an important villain. He's capable of leading an army here and ruthless enough to execute foes. The last one is a great Shady/Mon-El moment. It shows just how mature their relationship is. She's just saved his butt and is anything but a damsel in distress. Yet, this clearly shows the emotional bond between the couple.

Persuader's screaming sure makes it seem like Shady's blasts are painful!
I wish Levitz had showed Shady's fighting skills more consistently. There were times when she just stood there blasting people while waving her cape around. When I marathoned V2 and V3, she didn't make as much of an impression as a fighter as, say, Dream Girl or Violet (or Brin or Val, of course).

I think the Persuader is just reacting to the loss of his sight, and therfore his chances of winning the conflict, than it being the shadow itself being painful. That's how I read it anyway. He would later lose allhis senses to Sensor Girl later on.
Here, Shady uses some acrobatics and some very nice combinations of shadow power and hand to hand fighting. Input this one alongside Dream Girl taking down robbers with her precognitive fighting style or Vi kicking the snot out of Micro Lad.

Yeah, I remember Levitz used a lot of AYEEEIs during his time, many of which might not be warranted. Dream Girl: AyEEEI! I broke a nail! Invisible Kid II: AYEEI! I used the wrong French phrase! Sacre Bleu, I am not trying to imitate Tyroc, we are completely different characters! Brainiac 5: AYEEI! Someone's been tampering with my mind! It's much worse than those times I went crazy myself! As if the Supergirl robot weren't embarrassing enough... Tyroc: AYEEI! I am using my powers to make myself appear more often during the Levitz era! Oh wait, wrong scream, this one made me teleport away into obscurity...

Last night, I searched Google Images for Tasmia scenes from LSH Baxter #56, but couldn't find any.
Could someone more internet-savvy than me please post some of her scenes from that issue?
Thanks in advance.

And that happens to be my favorite scene in the whole issue.
Thank you so much, Thoth.

^I'm embrrassed to say I'd forgotten about that scene. Truly anticipates what was to come later in the Baxter run. And Greg LaRocque's art there is exquisite. Part of the reason he's my favorite Legion artist is because there's something so sensuous and delicate about his work.

Yeah, like I said in the other thread, that's not a bad issue at all. The TMK run started with such promise and then, in my opinion, got progressively worse and worse.

I love that scene! That panel where she blasts the Persuader's eyes and the shadow spills out through his mouth grill is one of my favourite panels in any comic ever! It's a really unique depiction of darkness powers, normally you'd just expect to see her encase his head in a black cloud or something. While I don't think Shady's darkness would hurt, I think he's yelling because getting zapped like that would scare the crap out of anyone I can't remember if it's in the same issue or not but there's another scene where she has a wall of darkness coming over the planet's horizon which blew me away because of the scale of it. I think I am in the minority but that's my favourite costume for Shady too. And that issue is also responsible for my crush on Grev

The only thing I have against the costume is the high collar. It's the hair I hate, or the lack of it.

I like the hair because she reminds me of a flapper from the 20s....she definitely has No Peripheral Vision Collar Syndrome though! Must have caught it from Karate Kid

In my late teens I shaved my head, because I thought it would make me look like Sinead O'Connor. It didn't. The months it took to grow it out were torture. Maybe that's why I hate that similar look on Shadow Lass. God bless Steve Lightle for the insta-grow helmet.

I also prefer Shady with long, flowing hair. It just seems to fit her whole look and powers better!

I think as a kid I actually thought that was some sort of helmet rather than her hair!
Anyway, none of her costumes have seemed quite right to me.

I'm not sure exactly, but I'm thinking something more along the lines of "realistic female warrior".

Yeah, some kind of ultra thin, high-tech Talokian deal.
