Zenith was Morrison's rip off version of Crisis/ Jerry Cornelius/ Luther Arkwright and very significantly The Fury wiping out everything in Captain Britain by a certain Mr Moore. The Lloigor were pinched from Colin Wilson, with the name originally being used by August Derleth. Morrison gave them attributes of HP Lovecraft's Outer Gods such as Yog Sothoth. I don't use "rip-off" or "pinched" lightly. It's lift and drop rather than homage for a lot of the core ideas. In fact, they got into a little bother over it. However, there are few better sources if you were wanting to pinch and it's hugely entertaining. There are plenty of tweaks and polishes along the way where Morrison & Yeowell add their own flourishes such as pop star possessed superheroes, raiding the vaults of British comic heroes, the deja vu scene and the crispy dialogue. But the source material and Zenith always seem better than the later and later attempts at constant jump cuts that try to cover up the lack of any real narrative depth with pace. I've not really bothered to see much of the Multiversity stuff online, but the above posts would suggest this is something similar again.

Man... All these fancy schmancy analyses... While my reaction to it is still on the level of Captain Carrot + President Superman = total awesomeness!

Funny. For a guy who starts his analysis claiming to have no animosity towards Morrison, the majority of his gripes can be boiled down to "because it's Morrison!"

I think I got one of the more subdued jokes about the Gentry.
The one member who takes on Nix Uotan, Intellectron, a lot of reviewers who think the Gentry represent mainstream comic companies, Intellectron seems to be DC. A creature with bat wings and only one eye, in the sense that DC's view is limited to Batman. Well, if Intellectron only has one eye, than it has no capacity of DEPTH perception.
And I think most of us can agree the bulk of DC's books lately have little to no depth.

"Society of Super-Heroes" was pretty great. A perfect mix of Pulp with the JSA and some Silver Age fun thrown in. The art was also perfect for the tone. Really liked all the heroes and how their fate (pardon the pun) played out.

I am loving the hell out of this so far, if Grant can weave a connected story through all these different realities and keep up the level of creativity we've seen so far I think this is gonna be amazing

For those interested it was the heroes of the S.o.S:
Immortal Man Doc Fate Lady Blackhawk (and her all-female Blackhawks) Al Pratt "The Mighty Atom" & Abin Sur
defending against an invasion by their evil counterparts from a Parallel World:
Vandal Savage Felix Faust Lady Shiva Blockbuster & Count Sinestro
It's a Five-year War that comes to a brutal end, but is the price of winning too high?

I loved the pulp superheroes as drawn by Chris Sprouse. Morrison returned to an old fave in Anthro (and Vandal Savage) but I like he tied it into the Immortal Man.
Doc Fate was particularly cool as a Dr. Fate / Doc Savage mashup.
Imagine a straight forward Morrison / Sprouse Blackhawks series? I'd be there without needing to know one iota more.

I was expecting January 2015 to have the Mastermen issue solicited. I've been really curious about that one because so far we don't know who the artist is, and I love the Quality Comics characters so I'm wondering who else Morrison will include in the new Freedom Fighters.
HOWEVER, we are gonna get the Multiversity Guidebook! A detailed guide to all 52 Earths and a Multiversity story! Kamandi, Atomic Knight Batman, Li'l Leaguer Batman, the Agents of W.O.N.D.E.R., the Love Syndicate, the Super-Americans, Accelerated Man, the Light Brigade, and Aquaflash! This is gonna be a VERY happy new year.

To be fair Marv Wolfman (I think) first tied Immortal Man to Vandal Savage post-crisis (Same meteor gave them their powers), but it was cool for Morrison to bring the idea back.

Dave, I know--and that's a neat idea--but what was so interesting was tying Anthro to them, since Anthro has always existed on the farthest periphery of the DCU with only Morrison having any real interest in him anymore.

Yeah but, Why wasn't Donna in this issue after she was solicited and had designs featuring her shown to the readers.
God what did they do THIS time. To expand, there were some things about this issue I really loved, but several things about it have me deeply bothered. The Good: The number of new legacy characters alongside the return of so many others, as well as all the cameos of 90s DC characters, good 90s and bad. The Bad: The disappearance of the character mentioned above, and the treatment of Connor Hawke and Arrowette. I'm not exactly a Connor fan (I don't hate him, I just don't think about him) but Morrison's treatment of him was rather painful for me to read.

Well, I think Morrison went out of his way to show these are non-heroic versions of the characters. Even Ray Palmer, after setting things right, is still asking where the party is. I really liked it, but my biggest complaint was that it was nothing more than it was said to be (vapid self-centered heroes with no purpose are unprepared for a real crisis). It owed a LOT to the first issue of Miracleman's Silver Age (which is funny because they even name-check Gaiman). The other quibble would be that the ending was telegraphed quite loudly, though I suppose you could argue that's part of the point: That the 'heroes' aren't able to see the threat in front of them the whole time.

The biggest complaint I have about it is that it was just a single issue. If this was the first issue of a new series, I'd be really excited about where it was going to go from here. Would these non-heroes eventually be able to step up to the plate? But the unfortunate thing is that we'll probably never get much in the way of follow up, unless Morrison has some really cool plan to bring all of this stuff together in an interesting way.

I really liked Daiman's detective work with the comics and their indica (I'm tempted to grab the last few issues and check the indicas myself ;)).
I also found it funny that most of the DC heroes read mostly Marvel comics.

There's probably symbolism there about later generations of DC writers trying to imitate Marvel.

Hmm, that I can understand. It just feels a little "too soon" considering how DC's been handling Connor the last few years, especially considering the whole Earth-2 debacle. It would've helped if gave Connor the right skin color. Other than that I was surprised that "Sasha" turned out to be Sister Miracle. I read that name I assumed she was going to be Earth-11's Mister Miracle. The thing is, Sasha's also from Seven Soldiers. In the Mister Miracle series, one of the lives Shilo Norman went through had him married with a daughter named Sasha. I also like how it looks like the Ultraa one-shot was completed before every other issue, considering we keep getting glances at it.

Oh, one other thing.
So, Damian Wayne, the son of a villainess whose father was a feared international terrorist mastermind, is dating a villainess whose father was a feared international terrorist mastermind.
...sooooo, Oedipus line one?

So, is that the first use of Charleton's Yellowjacket by DC Comics?
