...got a $350 airline voucher for volunteering for a flight bump resulting in a one hour delay. Yay! That basically paid for my trip.

...tried out my new cement flippers...glub.

weather typically took a turn for the worse at a weekend. So no BBQ today

... had some hotcakes.

...shopped for a new laptop

Read up on rabbit, cat, owl and dog cafes in Japan.

fell asleep on the couch again. Ugh. I really should do something about the quality and the duration of my sleep...

...A new chain pub opened up in town a couple of weeks ago. A big enough chain to make an instant impact. It's an atmosphere free, family friendly/ generic sort of place. Except no one has told the locals.

The range of ales is great, which I enjoyed between the table of druggies and the father trying to drunkenly chat up a couple of teenagers.

... promised myself I will improve my sleep quality, starting tonight.

...said goodbye to another long-time friend. Except this one is only moving to Florida.

...bought new running shoes. They look like they're from the Iron Man Armor collection.

... helped gather group of friends A to meet group of friends B, and now it seems we'll evolve into one big happy gay group

...ate some decadent peanut butter pie.

...got food poisoning.

...spent an unfun day doing monthly reporting.

Came into possession of a lot of extra bottled water.

... had a lovely walk along a sandy, deserted beach with a misty island dominating the distance watching the day drift into evening. I realised I hadn't a camera just as I also noticed a seal sunning itself on a large rock just out to sea. Still, I have the memories... for as long as they last.

I hadn't any bottled water either. Some sort of global shortage I shouldn't wonder. If only we knew who the culprit was...

... had a very nice, big, hot pork asado bun. mmmm!

... called in sick. My body hurts all over.

Went to bed 5 hour early. Now up 7 hours early. A net saving of zzzzzzzz.....

Fortunately, no riots. The alarm had gone out at 2am. I woke at 6 and checked the on-line paper, saw the alarm; do not drink, bath or even touch. Read it again to make sure I wasn't dreaming, then got in the car to get bottled water for me and the neighbors at the local 24hr. It wasn't crowded but I barely got out of my car and a guy said they were out. So I decided to head north to Detroit but decided the try my luck at the first town in, about 20 mi into Mich. People were already filling up.

It's a thing that we're not well prepared for, except for all the zombie apocolypse movies and that's exactly what it was like. People not thinking. People reacting. There were a few bone heads back in the city I guess. Everyone was polite and helping each other where I was. The Kroger and Walmart people were probably more frantic than we were. A LOT of outlying communities started bringing in water to the city to help us out.

Back to not being prepared. It was the "do not touch" and the no indication of when it would be over that guided behaviors. Someone filled up a couple carts so everyone else figured that's what you were SUPPOSED to do. Like it was going be a forever thing. It really didn't occur to anyone to just get a couple cases.

Well, it was an only few days thing so a lot of people have a lot of extra bottled water hanging around. We can expect a few more of these before summer is over so it may come in handy but local governments should use this as a model for how to prepare, but it looks like it's going to be more a lot of looking for people that can be blamed for something.

The last two neighborhoods to get the all-clear? The one where I teach and the one where I live. And me spending the last two years between Toledo and Cleveland getting tested on why my digestive track doesn't seem to want to work. hmmmmmmm.

Moral: contact your local politicians and recommend they teach people a plan for what to do in such a situation, including expecting stores to ration the amount they will sell, how to be civil, not to panic, work together....
