Thanks Arachne! ...and thanks to Nightcrawler for the links - here are the scans of the penciled and inked versions of the cover to #8 - hope you like them! Click on the thumbnails to see larger versions!

Aye. Those pencils...wow. Barry have you ever considered that "no inking" process? Just for an issue? Your finished work is so detailed (which for me is why I've liked this Legion so much) but the pencils looked even more detailed. Maybe one of those future stories that take place on another planet (Durla for example) the no inks approach??? (ofcourse you might get paid less since you usually do your inks...on the other hand you might need the break!)

Thanks Guys! I'd be quite interested to try the 'no inks' method - I don't think it's something DC feel ready to experiment with at the moment, but certainly sometime in the future I'd like to see how it might turn out!

If you wanna be experimental, try to get Waid to do a backup story you can play with, or a dream sequence. No need to try out radical new stuff for a whole issue. Few pages here and there... Everyone's happy. =)
Love the new cover. It's so good to be seeing action-oriented covers that aren't just poses or pinups. I can tell my issues apart again!
And hope everything is going well for you, Barry after what's happened.

Yeah! I've found that a decent colorist can manipulate color on an inage without the need for an inker to apply hard blacks. I colored the sketch you did for Scott at WWDallas and while I don't think it's up to professional standards it still came out pretty nice. I've seen some work by some of our guys that approaches photo realism done from pencils (especially where the artist has added delcate shading) without going with hard sharp heavy black lines. That would be incredibly cool to see on a Legion story.

I could be wrong, but I think that Tom Raney went without an inker on those early Outsiders issues.
My sympathies on your losses, Barry.

I think the no-inker thing came later in Raney's Outsiders run, in part to help speed up the process and hopefully have less fillins and/or delayed issues. Salvador Larocca also went inkerless on X-Treme X-Men, and it worked out pretty well, IMO, once they got the hang of it. J

Barry, my deepest sympathies on your loses. You just tell TPTB at DC that we, the fans, say you can take your time in catching up. We don't mind the issues being a little late. And you don't need to apologize for not being around. We, or at least I, feel very lucky that you take the time out of your busy schedule to let us in on the goings on behind the scenes.

Indeed we do feel lucky to have you here Barry. The legion chat is pretty darned nice to have but your presence here on a private message board is quite special to us. I know I'm grateful for your insider's look at things and the artwork yo've sent to us through Nightcrawler makes us all feel special. I know we're awfully far away but if there's anything we can do for you all you have to do is ask.

Speaking as a lazy slack-ass, I've come to appreciate the "no inking" way (especially since I'm a horrible inker). Case in point: I've always liked the energy of my pencil lines more than my inked ones.

Sun Boy quits this issue. I just know it.
I hope this is temporary. Dirk's absence impacted my enjoyment of the last reboot.

I saw this issue at the Con. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but the end seemed interesting. And that solit was right on! (And BTW, I was right.)

Ooooooooooh! You got in already? Lucky! Any Legiony goodies or tidbits to speak of? Barry Kitson, by way of private jet, landing on top of the Comic-Con roof for a surprise apperance perhaps?
I'm flying out Thursday morning so won't get conning until maybe 10amish. See you soon...
