ROUND NINE IS OVER!!

Wow, these rounds are getting harder and harder and harder for some of us, while others seem to be finding it a bit easier. Well, all of us were going to get our lists mangled sooner or later.

We had 13 voters this round; two lost 3 characters, seven lost 2; three lost 1; and one managed to get his whole list through unscathed.

So who made it? As you can see, the points were VEEEEEEEEERY CLOSE this round, with ranks 2 to 4 being separated by only 5 points each! Ranks 5 to 8 are also close together, being separated by 1 point each!

And it will be heartbreaking to some to see that one of our eliminated characters was only 12 points away from safety...

(Pre-Flashpoint) Wonder Woman (Diana) 232
(Pre-Flashpoint) Zatanna 215
(Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol, Silver Age) 210
(Pre-Flashpoint) Martian Manhunter 205
(Pre-Flashpoint) Vixen 187

(Pre-Flashpoint) Black Canary (Dinah Laurel Lance) 187
(Pre-Flashpoint) Flash (Barry Allen) 186
(Pre-Flashpoint) Elongated Man 185

And we say goodbye to...

(Pre-Flashpoint) Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond) 173
(Pre-Flashpoint) Booster Gold 91
(Pre-Flashpoint) Atom (Ray Palmer) 82
(Pre-Flashpoint) Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) 75

And by number of votes...

(Pre-Flashpoint) Wonder Woman (Diana) - 8
(Pre-Flashpoint) Zatanna - 8
(Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol, Silver Age) - 8
(Pre-Flashpoint) Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond) - 8
(Pre-Flashpoint) Martian Manhunter - 7
(Pre-Flashpoint) Vixen - 7
(Pre-Flashpoint) Flash (Barry Allen) - 7
(Pre-Flashpoint) Black Canary (Dinah Laurel Lance) - 6
(Pre-Flashpoint) Atom (Ray Palmer) - 6
(Pre-Flashpoint) Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) - 5
(Pre-Flashpoint) Elongated Man - 4
(Pre-Flashpoint) Booster Gold - 4

Though Ted, Ralph and Booster are at the bottom in terms of number of lists, shockingly, Firestorm is at the top - he was on 8 lists! He had one 1st place rank and two 2nd placers; however, for the other five lists he was only 5th or 6th and wasn't quite able to catch up to the next four characters. Had Ronnie tied with Ralph, it would have been Ralph going home.

Neat! Disheartening thread, but neat list!

Noooooo! We lost Booster (and with him our Legion of Super-Heroes connection)! And Firestorm! And Atom (guess I should have voted for him...)!

And Ted, I guess. Eh. smile

.

The eight that remain; Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Hawkwoman, Martian Manhunter, Vixen, Black Canary, Flash and Elongated Man might make an interesting team.

And congrats to Vixen, for being the only non Satellite-era survivor!

Yes, it's been a sad, sad last couple of rounds for everyone as we all lost many beloved characters.

And now ROUND TEN BEGINS!

Any regrets over the past 3 rounds? Could switching your list around have saved some favorites from elimination? Well, if our heroes had their second chances, so do we!

Yes, this is our second and last WILD CARD ROUND for the game!!!

And as mentioned before, the format will be VERY DIFFERENT.

We've lost 16 of our Top 24 already. But all these 16 get one more chance to make it back to the game!

For each of the 16 wild card contenders, simply vote YES or NO. Any character who has 75% of players vote YES makes it back next round. So yes, it is actually possible for all characters to come back... or for none at all to make it.

A note of caution - a character you return to the list may very well beat another of your favorites next round!

Your 16 hopefuls:

(JL Unlimited Toon) Green Lantern (John Stewart)
(JL Unlimited Toon) Hawkgirl
(Pre-Flashpoint) Atom (Ray Palmer)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Batman (Bruce Wayne)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Booster Gold
(Pre-Flashpoint) Doctor Light (Kimiyo Hoshi)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Fire
(Pre-Flashpoint) Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Flash (Wally West)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Green Arrow (Oliver Queen)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkman (Katar Hol, Silver Age)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Ice (Tora Olafsdotter)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Red Tornado
(Pre-Flashpoint) Superman

This round ends sometime Thursday night, Philippine time (most likely early evening). I don't think anyone will get much of a strategic advantage for waiting until the end of the round to vote anyway, so I hope you all vote early smile

House Rules:

House Rules

1) Each round will last about 48 hours. I will try to end each round at the same time, but this won't always be possible because of work.

2) I'll vote at the start of every round to minimize bias on my part.

3) I don't actively encourage editing of votes; it's a smart tactic but may be unfair for those who don't get to log on as often. However, I won't disallow them either. I'll only tally votes at the end of each round (to make it easier on myself!). I'll post on this thread the minute I start tallying to alert everyone; votes that come in after that will be ignored.

4) In case of errors in the results, I'll post a correction immediately. If anyone's vote was affected by the error, that poster will be notified by PM immediately. If the poster cannot correct his/her votes before the end of the round, he/she will get a makeup point next round - a +15 bonus. This only applies to instances where I made the error, and not where the poster made an error.

5) Points will be given based on your ranking. The higher you rank a character on your list, the more points that character will get (e.g. Rank 1 gets 10 points, Rank 2 gets 9 points...) Point distributions will change per round.

6) Exception to the above will be the first 1-2 rounds of the game, which trim the list down considerably. Each vote will count as one point, and characters below a certain point threshold get eliminated.

7) Because several characters have the same code name, and because the list includes multiple realities, PLEASE SPECIFY which character you are voting for. I won't make assumptions for votes which don't identify the character clearly. Example, if you vote for:

1) Superman
2) Maya
3) Elongated Man
4) Green Lantern (Pre-Flashpoint)

I'll only count the votes for Maya and Elongated Man. I have no way of knowing if you're voting for JLU Superman vs. Pre Flashpoint Superman, or whether you're voting for Hal, Kyle, Guy or John.

Ooh, interesting format switch-up. I will have to ponder, as I've already got six or seven easy YES votes, and I'm not sure I want to risk that many new names, and threaten Dinah, Shayera and / or Mari's chances. smile

That's also what I'm thinking of now. It sure is hard! I have 9 YES votes as of now and I think 3 of those 9 have a good shot at making it back in.

I think everyone will be saying NOOOOOOOOO starting Round 11, as our lists get smaller and smaller tongue

I'm very interested to see how things shape up this round. When we did this in Legion Idol, only one of 13 made it back (Retroboot Tyroc). In Titans Idol, only one of 14 made it back (Flamebird).

How many will make it back this round? Will anyone make it back at all?

Atom, Firestorm, one or both Hawks, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Zatanna, Red Tornado, Elongated Man. (Phantom Stranger could come and go, as is his wont.) Great classic characters who could really shine, outside of the shadows of the Trinity, Green Hal and Flash, and, generally speaking, characters that don't already have their own solo books, so there'd be more freedom to develop them and explore their own characterization and environments, without interference from Bat-editors, etc. who've staked a claim on the solo stars.

It sounds cool, but unfortuantely, similar Leagues in the past haven't worked out so well. Look at DL Detroit, the period between Bwa-Ha-Ha and Morrison, and the Robinson League. Any time they've strayed from the "Big Guns" it hasn't worked out so well. Even JL/JLI/JLE era only caught fire because it was so radically different, and even it eventually wasn't able to tread on that ground.

I'm pretty sure that the WW2 Miss America is also the same Miss America who appeared in the new Freedom Fighters series a while back. Apparently her transmutation powers had evolved to the point that she was virtually immortal! Wow! That easily made her one of the most powerful Squadron members.

Yeah, it's actually Quality Comics's Miss America, who actually appears in the story from which the splash-page is taken as one of the original Freedom Fighters who die at Pearl Harbor on Earth-X.

Merry is also post-war, unless that's been retconned.

I remember reading a debate on some message boards a long, long time ago that a team simply can't be called the Justice League if it doesn't include the greatest heroes in the DCU. And those greatest heroes are pretty much always thought to be Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, a Flash, and a Green Lantern.

Yeah, the nature of the serial comic story beast, I suppose. Any sort of growth or development has to be periodically undone, rebooted or reset (as with the nu52) to bring back the characterization that's classic or iconic, and retell / update the origin stories and 'year ones,' and sweep away anyone introduced in the meantime.

Noooooooooo! Some Lone Wolf Editing took out Firestorm! Gaaaah! Whew it's a wildcard round. A really interesting one too. Good work Ibby.

Except, skipping through the above posts, is any one going to get 75%? The atom is closest I think.

If I'm doing my math right, I think only TWO characters still have a chance assuming we have 13 voters this round!

LWL actually helped Firestorm by voting him in over the already-eliminated Hal smile (I'm pretty sad that Firestorm is gone too though!)

Thanks thothkins, glad you're liking this round's rules. This is always one of my faves every Idol game because it's so interesting!

Atom and Superman are closest with 4/8 voters so far saying YES.

I'm actually surprised that Hal Jordan is doing so poorly - only 2/8 YES votes. I honestly thought he'd be a bit more popular going into the game (though considering the lack of discussion after he got eliminated, I started thinking he wasn't, at least for the voters here :p)

I didn't really vote tactically either; I was banking on the high 75% YES requirement to make sure very few characters (if any!) would return to the list.

Yep, looks like this round will likely be a waste of time, unless Ibby either lowers the threshold or lets, say, the top 2 percentage-wise in give us an even Top Ten?

I'll think about it, but I probably won't. I've always used 75% and the intriguing part about rounds like this is everyone can get back in... or nobody can get back in!

But let's see how things shape up smile
