Ooh, I had the Super-Friends comic as a kid that introduced these characters (and the other someday-to-be-called Global Guardians).

'Green Flame' had the power to breath a mystical green flame that could be hot or cold, or form illusions, or transform her into her costume or back to civilian attire.

Very innovative sort of powers, and then she showed up in JLI as a pin up model who could breathe a 6 inch tongue of flame from her mouth and was only super-heroing for the celebrity. Ugh.

I'd rather her original creative powerset have come back, but at least she's got some actual firepower as a generic Human Torch copycat, and is (much more slowly) recovering from that characterization hackjob.

Loved the backstory of a hidden land of ice-manipulating folk. Unlike other 'hidden lands' like the Feitherans (Northwind's people), they've done a decent job of not getting (repeatedly...) wiped out as part of some event.

The friendship between the two characters, and their often more light-hearted approach to superheroing, without struggling 24/7 with all the angst that sometimes follows other heroes around, is a breath of fresh air.

Fire and Ice have been bounced around origin wise.

But I loved how when fire got amped up she could actually turn into (intangible) fire. I thought that was a nice detail.

I liked them in their audition for the JLI when they were both very low powered but were fighting machines! despite fire doing it for the glory she was a pro. i think she protested too much ... and her paycheck chasing was a front.

and I really liked Fire's black hair. (I hated her tacky big green hair)



and while I never read her Checkmate era, I enjoyed Fire going back to her spy/agent persona .. (she killed someone though? not cool)

ah! plus that photo is so great because her and oberon later became a couple!

But I suppose what is really great about them is their friendship.

I thought Fire could be annoying really, and kind of a b%t*h but .. then she had these mega compassionate or heroic moments. It made me love her so much more.

I heart Fire and Ice! I wish DC had somewhere fun they could fit in nowadays... :\

Fire is my favourite but I really like how Ice was always genuinely very sweet and compassionate and I like how every now and then they would play with how other people saw it as a flaw when it was really her greatest strength

It was a fad, at the time. Fire Lad had to have fire hair, and Polar Boy ice hair, etc. I'm surprised that Giffen didn't go for the quintfecta and have Night Girl with starfield night hair, Chlorophyll Kid with plant hair and Stone Boy with rock hair.

On the other hand, Ice's new costume was excellent. Got to give props to a heroine who puts a short t-shirt over her skintight costume to deny people a chance to stare at her breasts. She's like the anti-Power Girl!



Ooh, Fire and Ice vs. Booster Gold and Captain Atom. The girls taking on some shiny, shiny metal-clad hero boys!

In the nu52 Justice League International, Ice was shown flying on a floating chunk of ice, similar to how Terra used to ride around on a floating chunk of rock. Has she always been able to do this? I don't really remember very well...

I'm pretty sure she hasn't, although I do recall her creating ice "slides" before (like in one JL Quarterly issue, the one where she, Kimiyo, Diana, Crimson Fox and Power Girl fought a shapeshifting assassin).


Here are the portions from the Superbuddies where Bea and Guy and others find Ice in "hell".

It's pretty heartbreaking. She wound up there by accident, and they were told she can leave with them IF they don't look back until they're clear. but Bea can't stop herself...

I totally refuse to believe that was Ice, and was just a mean trick on Guy and Fire. It was an excellent story, really out of place in contemporary comics ... but ...

I mean ...


Ice would never end up in any hell.

Plus there was that bitchiness when Fire finally did look behind her ... I thought that must be a give away that it wasn't Ice.

Yeah, even without her later return in Birds of Prey I already knew it wasn't really Ice
