Those final panels in that scene from The Nail are always so heart-breaking. Great story.
And great choice of that cover from Hawkman #4. One of the best of all time IMO.

Includes Hawkgirl, yes? There's an obvious reason I love this one, of course. But also those storm-cloud wings...!

Hawkwoman's scene from The Nail above was easily one of the best in that comic, and even in Another Nail. That comic shows that she could be amazing even without Katar, but that both characters also complemented each other so well. A perfect example of a female hero who is both enhanced by, and enhances, her partner; yet is just as strong without him.

I agree on all counts but I might say that scene from the Nail is one of the best scenes in comics. It is so pivotal to the story while summing up the whole story. Beautifully drawn also. That panel with her bursting out of the flames with kids in her arms is what comics are all about.

I think the current thinking is that ... she is (was) an ancient Shayera/Shiera reincarnated during WW2. no? sort of? that's the only excuse I can think of for why when "Shiera" was reincarnated from Hawkgirl/kendra in Blackest Night she and Hawkman looked like Shayera and Katar. I think I will stick with that definition anyway. ;P So Thanagarian Hawks are the originals, landed in ancient Egypt and somehow keep being reincarnated ... probably not but ... would make more sense I think. or some sense.

One of my favorite comic book moments ever. srsly. Sigh, I wish Shayera had been part of the JLI for much longer.

YES, Her and Katar seemed to find a rhythm that was very much like the scene I will post below, yet in opposite roles, Shayera mellows a bit and loses the anger but keeps her sarcasm while straight laced Katar becomes uptight. Which made it all the more funny! Me gusta mucho!

I remember that scene. I was all behind Shayera there. Love that she's confident enough in her marriage not to get even the least bit jealous that Katar is carrying Fire, of all people! And I love that she knows just what a stiff Katar is, but loves him anyway
