Thursday night my time. I'm glad I did decide to extend the round seeing as how's my haven't voted yet. Quis was the one who suggested to extend so I'm sure he intends to vote. I checked in on Blacula, he mentioned in Round 1 that he had been in the hospital. He also intends to vote. Razsolo made a couple of posts in Bits a couple of days ago too.

There are at least 2 in danger whom I do not want to go home this round! I am pretty tense too tongue

Telekinesis is portrayed best in an animated or televised capacity, since the motion can be shown, and it's not just a scene of a person and one or more random objects hovering in mid-air. (The scene of Dr. Manhattan dressing himself before the interview in the Watchmen movie, with all the stuff hovering around him, or of Miss Martian surrounded by cooking materials in the Young Justice cartoon, for instance.) It's super-common as 'magic' in various shows, like Supernatural or Buffy or Charmed.

Comic book portrayals of magnetism are more likely to look like good uses of telekinesis, since Polaris and Magneto are less likely to have visible energy manifestations drawn on the page, in recent years. (Cosmic Boy, unfortunately, tends to have those pink or blue energy circles and 'sproing! sound effect.)

I actually don't mind the energy signatures in comics, as they help make the action clear. But I do agree that they're best drawn with a little restraint. Some artists fill the pages with splashes of color! A low key portrayal, like with Cosmic Boy's energy circles or Kinetix's green aura, are best IMO.

1. Sorry for keeping people waiting. As IB mentioned, I'm not too well at the moment and have been in and out of hospital/doctor's surgeries over the past few weeks and only have intermittent access to Legion World. I'm doing OK though so no need to worry. smile

2. It looks like I'm about to lose a bunch of faves this round frown but hopefully I can save some others in danger.

3. Asking us to pick just 15 characters is so cruel IB! There were 16 members of the classic JLA (17 if you count the Phantom Stranger). Asking us to leave one off is like Sophie's Choice!

4. I love Captain Comet. I could be wrong about this but I think he came second in that membership vote that saw Zatanna elected to the League. How much bigger would his status be in the DCU if he had been a member in the classic Satellite-era!

5. My votes:

1. (Pre-Flashpoint) Elongated Man
2. (Pre-Flashpoint) Red Tornado
3. (Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkman (Katar Hol, Silver Age)
4. (Pre-Flashpoint) Zatanna
5. (Pre-Flashpoint) Aquaman
6. (Pre-Flashpoint) Atom (Ray Palmer)
7. (Pre-Flashpoint) Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
8. (Pre-Flashpoint) Wonder Woman (Diana)
9. (Pre-Flashpoint) Green Arrow (Oliver Queen)
10. (Pre-Flashpoint) Flash (Barry Allen)
11. (Pre-Flashpoint) Superman
12. (Pre-Flashpoint) Martian Manhunter
13. (Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol, Silver Age)
14. (Pre-Flashpoint) Batman (Bruce Wayne)
15. (Pre-Flashpoint) Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond)

No worries, Blacula, the round really was supposed to end on Thursday night/morning. And you have made some people very happy with your vote tongue Just glad you're OK.

Picking 15 - I know it's cruel, but I did it on purpose to see how the votes would be shaken up tongue This would make being high in rankings more important than being on many lists!

I guess you and I agree that many of our JLE faves probably won't make it much farther than next round (I see you left off Taz, Dimitri and Silver Sorceress among others). Well, the writing IS on the wall and I'm glad to see your vote will probably save some others I was worrying about who have a better chance to make it to the end.

Naw, I'd just go nuts and stuff the ballot box.

There is no scrap of power I will not abuse. Five minutes working for the Department of Motor Vehicles and I'd be halfway to Victor Von Doom...

Just makes me want to give the job to you more. As long as you promise to bump Dr. Light, Sue Dibny, Fire and Ice up the rankings.

I ended the last round at about 10.30 PM, so I'll end this round at roughly the same time as well.

Sorry for the delay! I was hoping I'd get a chance to post from work but this week has been insane! I was thinking it would be difficult to narrow it down to 15 but I actually picked the first 14 really easily and then had to wrack my brains for the last one! Couple of things that surprised me were how many Leaguers I picked who weren't satellite-era, and how the first character that came to mind wasn't necessarily my favourite. For example I realised I like Ice mainly for how she compliments Bea...on her own she is sweet but never had much chance to shine as a character. I couldn't really justify ranking her above Green Arrow or Vixen, neither of whom on their own are my faves but have both had some kickass JLA moments smile

My 15:

1. (Pre-Flashpoint) Fire
2. (Pre-Flashpoint) Black Canary (Dinah Laurel Lance)
3. (Pre-Flashpoint) Zatanna
4. (Pre-Flashpoint) Red Tornado
5. (Pre-Flashpoint) Martian Manhunter
6. (JL Unlimited Toon) Hawkgirl
7. (Pre-Flashpoint) Elongated Man
8. (Pre-Flashpoint) Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond)
9. (Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol, Silver Age)
10. (Pre-Flashpoint) Green Arrow (Oliver Queen)
11. (Pre-Flashpoint) Vixen
12. (Pre-Flashpoint) Superman
13. (Pre-Flashpoint) Ice (Tora Olafsdotter)
14. (Pre-Flashpoint) Wonder Woman (Diana)
15. (Pre-Flashpoint) Power Girl

No apologies needed raz; I didn't make this round last roughly 72 hours for anyone in particular, but because last weekend was Memorial Day weekend smile Glad you were able to pop in and vote!

I agree with you on Ice. It's a shame, but besides that storyline where her brother tried to take over their kingdom, and then the Overmaster fiasco, she rarely did get a starring role. But I loved her sweet personality and the contrast with her inner toughness. She wasn't afraid to tell someone off if needed. And she did work best as a contrast to Fire and to Guy Gardner!

13. (JL Unlimited Toon) Green Lantern (John Stewart)
14. (Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol, Silver Age)
15. (Pre-Flashpoint) Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)

I find it hard to separate all my feelings about the characters from stories outside the JLA when voting (eg. Booster Gold, who I enjoyed better in his own series than JLI)

Re: Ice, I do remember that one JLE story where she single-handedly defeated Starro after he'd taken down pretty much the entire JLE crew AND J'onn....that and her using Guy's ring to heal Professor Ivo were both brilliant moments but they're the only times I can think of where she really fulfilled her potential. She has always been good with Bea and Guy though smile

Plus I always liked her costume which really shouldn't work but somehow does quite well!

It's weird, but that's the case for me for some characters and not for others. My old votes for Guy Gardner were colored by his recent depictions in the GL books, but for most it's pretty much how they were in the JLA books.

I especially liked the Ivo story, thanks for reminding me about it! Can't believe I forgot. I remember too the running joke in JLI where people would compliment her by going, "Awesome job, I can't believe people say your powers are useless!" Oy!

ROUND 4 IS OVER!

(Pre-Flashpoint) Flash (Barry Allen) - 265
(Pre-Flashpoint) Atom (Ray Palmer) - 261
(Super Friends) Apache Chief - 260
(Pre-Flashpoint) Phantom Stranger - 250

And we say goodbye to our Bottom 10 - including 2 Founders and Satellite Era Leaguers!!! Honestly, I would never have predicted that Diana of all characters goes home tonight. And to think I was worried for Zee and Ralph.

(Pre-Flashpoint) Aquaman - 247
(Pre-Flashpoint) Wonder Woman (Diana) - 231
(Super Friends) Black Vulcan - 216
(Pre-Flashpoint) Sue Dibny - 215
(Pre-Flashpoint) Green Lantern (John Stewart) - 201

On the other hand, Plastic Man's 7 votes and Wonder Woman's 6 votes just weren't enough to keep them in the game.

Round 5 Begins!!!

I'm sure we're all still reeling from the last round. Well, things are just gonna get harder...

30 characters remaining! This time, vote only for your Top 12!!!

Points will be given as follows: (Rank - Points)

1 - 200
2 - 140
3 - 100
4 - 70
5 - 60
6 - 40
7 - 25
8 - 15
9 - 10
10 - 6
11 - 3
12 - 1

Bottom 10 go home, leaving us with our Top 20!

This round ends on my Sunday night, which is Sunday morning US time. I'll be away over the weekend.

House Rules

1) Each round will last about 48 hours. I will try to end each round at the same time, but this won't always be possible because of work.

2) I'll vote at the start of every round to minimize bias on my part.

3) I don't actively encourage editing of votes; it's a smart tactic but may be unfair for those who don't get to log on as often. However, I won't disallow them either. I'll only tally votes at the end of each round (to make it easier on myself!). I'll post on this thread the minute I start tallying to alert everyone; votes that come in after that will be ignored.

4) In case of errors in the results, I'll post a correction immediately. If anyone's vote was affected by the error, that poster will be notified by PM immediately. If the poster cannot correct his/her votes before the end of the round, he/she will get a makeup point next round - a +15 bonus. This only applies to instances where I made the error, and not where the poster made an error.

5) Points will be given based on your ranking. The higher you rank a character on your list, the more points that character will get (e.g. Rank 1 gets 10 points, Rank 2 gets 9 points...) Point distributions will change per round.

6) Exception to the above will be the first 1-2 rounds of the game, which trim the list down considerably. Each vote will count as one point, and characters below a certain point threshold get eliminated.

7) Because several characters have the same code name, and because the list includes multiple realities, PLEASE SPECIFY which character you are voting for. I won't make assumptions for votes which don't identify the character clearly. Example, if you vote for:

1) Superman
2) Maya
3) Elongated Man
4) Green Lantern (Pre-Flashpoint)

I'll only count the votes for Maya and Elongated Man. I have no way of knowing if you're voting for JLU Superman vs. Pre Flashpoint Superman, or whether you're voting for Hal, Kyle, Guy or John.

Your Top 30!!!

(JL Unlimited Toon) Green Lantern (John Stewart)
(JL Unlimited Toon) Hawkgirl
(Pre-Flashpoint) Atom (Ray Palmer)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Batman (Bruce Wayne)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Big Barda

Interesting that Booster/Beetle & Fire/Ice had the same amount of people voting for them but with such differences in ranking!

I am surprised about Wonder Woman as well....I wonder if people assumed she would be more popular than she was & put characters before her they were more worried about getting through? I know I kept Superman & Wonder Woman at the bottom of my list for that reason!

A lot of characters normally paired together aren't getting the same amount of love. Big Barda's still here but Mr. Miracle's long gone; toon Hawkgirl is ahead of John Stewart and Shayera is trouncing her husband Katar too!

Re Diana and Aquaman, I'm pretty sure the "oh he/she will be safe" thinking played a role. So did having to choose between so many characters; fans of the Satellite Era for example are put in the difficult position of deciding which Leaguers they most want to keep safe and which ones they are willing to risk. The shorter the lists get the more surprises I think we'll see.

It still looks like Shayera and Dinah are the two to beat this game in terms of number of voters, with J'Onn close behind. But Vixen, Booster, Batman and possibly Zatanna may give them a run for their money. I was very pleased to see Wally place second, and Booster, Vixen, Fire and toon Hawkgirl all making it into the top ten.

I'm a little disappointed that Diana went home; I'd easily pick her over several Satellite Era Leaguers still remaining. But a look at the raw scores shows that things were very close indeed! I was relieved that Zee and Ralph made it through as well. Just goes to show that a single vote can have such a dramatic effect on the results.

Also sad to see Sue Dibny go, but she fought the good fight tongue

Interesting too that with the exit of comics john Stewart, Shayera is now the only character left on the list with multiple versions!

I am pretty amazed that after all that, the cut off still ended up being a single first place vote!

This round continued the trend in previous rounds where a single first place vote was enough to keep a character safe, but a single second place vote wasn't!

I lost a lot of JLE/JLI faves last round, so making this list wasn't quite so hard.

1 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Doctor Light (Kimiyo Hoshi)
2 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Ice (Tora Olafsdotter)
3 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Fire
4 - (JL Unlimited Toon) Green Lantern (John Stewart)
5 - (JL Unlimited Toon) Hawkgirl
6 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
7 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Power Girl
8 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Big Barda
9 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Martian Manhunter
10 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Zatanna
11 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Flash (Wally West)
12 - (Pre-Flashpoint) Vixen
