I was waiting to see if anybody else noticed this and apologies if it's already been discussed, but in the convoluted continuity that we're stuck with in the New 52, how did Batman happen to wind up with a "lightning rod from the the future" in Forever Evil #7?

Because... he's Batman!

Seriously, I don't think anyone, including DC, has any freaking idea what's in continuity and what isn't.

Or... even more likely.... every writer in DC has a bring-your-own-continuity policy, which would explain a lot.

I thought it was bring your own sandwich!

Spinning off from Forever Endless Plotlines comes..Earth Sandwich! where Professor Pickle breaks down the Cheesy multiverse wall only to hear Tenzil say..."A sandwich? That gives me an appetite and you don't want to give me an appetite!"

Get your issue today. Variant issues come in Cheese+ Pickle, Ham+Cheese, Roast Chicken and ship in vacuum sealed or prechewed varieties!

Geoff Johns is a bloated egotist who just has to reference his old stories because of how great they are?

I suspect ol' Geoff might have acquired a taste for nose candy sometime in the last few years.

DC acquires the McDonaldland characters! Thus giving us the Batman vs. Hamburglar battle fans have been craving for years!

The new 52 Hamburglar, who uses a childhood trauma as an excuse to commit atoricities?

You gave me lettuce...I said I didn't want no lettuce. But there it is. See that? That's lettuce. Right there. Stinking lettuce. I'm not paying for no lettuce. But you? Yeah, you're going to pay...

Another super villain career begins on Earth Sandwich...

I have given up financial support of the DCFU and comics entirely... but I can't seem to leave it alone!

DC is now like those Russian nesting dolls. One massive, cross-over Crisis ends, only to reveal... another one.

Forever Evil: The Crime Syndicate takes on all Prime Earth's heroes and villains combined! But... they are a sad, sorry depowered version. And yet they nearly succeed! What does that tell you about the competence of Prime Earth's superbeings?

* Ultraman is now basically Night Girl.
* Power Ring's power ring gets its power by inducing fear... in him! (Sinestro rips his arm off, and Power Ring thanks him.)

At last, they are defeated by... Lex Luthor! That's right, Lex Luthor, solipsistic sociopath, mass murderer, killer of children joins the Justice League; it's Absorancy Boy all over again.

It is becoming more and more clear that "good" and "evil" in the DCFU is just the "white" and "red" of the chessboard.

Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

Well the whole point of Forever Evil seemed to be: Let's get those pesky heroes off the table so we can have villains fight each other without those annoying morals or values getting in the way. It's like a Johns wet dream.

And next week, DC announces their NEXT mega-company-wide crossover! Colonel Sanders beats up Grimace! Wendy has been poisoning her salad bars! The Burger King conquers Metropolis! And who is this Jollibee character from the Philippines with his jolly smile and RED outfit? And why does Hourman break down and cry every time he sees him?!!

And like Russian dolls, there a diminishing return from every one.

But... they are a sad, sorry depowered version.

Without knowing the details, it's a shame that they have to be reduced. They were at their best as working parallels to the normal JLA.

* Power Ring's power ring gets its power by inducing fear... in him! (Sinestro rips his arm off, and Power Ring thanks him.)

Reminds me of a masochistic character from Bad Company (2000AD) who did the same sort of thing. There was also some arm ripping of another character in the same story oddly enough. As gruesome as it sounds there was a little more behind the character than that. Which is the difference also from Watchmen. The characters are violent for the sake of it. But imitators don't see past that and we end up with what we have now.

At last, they are defeated by... Lex Luthor! That's right, Lex Luthor, solipsistic sociopath, mass murderer, killer of children joins the Justice League; it's Absorbency Boy all over again.

It would seem that this was a big plot point on their little plot chart. If I were to jettison lots and lots of continuity I can see a world where Lex Luthor is perceived as a hero by many. But it's not been in any DC comics I've read.

To be fair, if I had to sit through regular meetings with Dan Didio, I'd probably become addicted to nose candy and snuff porn too. Poor Geoff.

It's hard for me to feel sorry for a guy pulling in the kind of money he is.

And I'll never forgive him for Blackest Night/Brightest Day/Flashpoint.

Yeah, that's faux feeling bad. After the outrageous final issue of his GL run, I'll never take him seriously again.

I wonder if they're stupid enough to make that character a JLAer in the movies?

If they were stupid enough to make Superman kill in their last movie, then they're certainly stupid enough to make that character a JLAer.

Flashpoint I can understand, but what was so bad about Blackest Night and Brightest Day?

I just skimmed that one, but I don't remember anything major outrageous, except for all the "applause" pages stuck into the middle of the book. Care to remind me?

I mean the applause pages. You would think he had written To Kill a Mockingbird or Book of Psalms in the bible.

It was the most self-congratulating, masterbatory nonsense I've seen in ages. Talk about buying into the press your own company has been pimping for a decade.

I thought Blackest Night was OK, except perhaps for the deaths of Tempest and Damage. What a waste. Other than that I thought it was a pretty epic story.

I never read Brightest day, though I have heard that it was very convoluted.

I'm in complete agreement with this. You used to get single page obituaries for the people who created characters, often multiple characters, and contributed greatly to the wealth and depth of stories and art that DC can draw from. From the production staff to the letterers to artists and writers, these were the innovators of comics.

Page after page of fawning for Johns was an utter embarrassment. Thinking back, it certainly played a factor in my DC purchases dwindling away. The creators of all these properties used to often be touched at the thought of fandom being out there. They didn't live a rather shallow exercise in hyperbole based on revolving derivatives of those creations.

Thanks for posting that Cobie. Sometimes I think it's just me.
