We should probably start talking about other heroes besides the Silver Age Satellite Era Leaguers So we can all at least pretend to be a little surprised when we reach the final rounds.

Seriously though, for most of us it's the Satellite Era Leaguers who're making it to the top 1-10 spots. Besides Shayera and Kater, I'm seeing a lot of love for Dinah, Barry and Ronnie. Then we have 1 or 2 voters who lean more towards the JLI era, and 1 or 2 who are giving the Super Friends a lot of love. JLU Shayera and John are also getting their share.

For Post-Satellite Leaguers, Vixen, Steel (Hank), Beetle, Booster
and Wally seem to be the standouts. I haven't tallied a single vote yet though so we may be surprised later.

Hi all, very busy day at work. Apologies, am not able to do the tallies now. I'll do them tonight, my Monday night, which would be Monday morning for the USA. Then Round 4 will last until my Thursday night, or Thursday morning for the USA (though if I see all of us have voted by Wednesday night my time/Wednesday AM USA time, I can close the round then).

I may be away for the weekend, if so Round 5 would last until my Sunday night.

Hmm... Ronnie winning would make me pretty happy as well...

I love me some Satellite Era Firestorm, but don't forget that he was one-half Martin Stein! Yeah, I know, he was mostly 'ghost-head advisor', but it just goes to show how much I miss the original, who's been absent in his original guise for too, too long.

My list shows about equal love for Satellite Era and JLI Era. Had so few Super friends made it through, I'd probably do one-third them. I doubt I'd ever have gotten so much into DC (and possibly comics in general) at all if it hadn't been for Super Friends and how they presented the icons. Well, that and the Adam West Batman series. Hokey or not, they certainly fostered my love for the characters and caused me to seek out their adventures on the printed page.

Yeah, Ronnie plus the Professor is where it's at! Talk about another character that's been pretty much screwed up since Crisis...

Definitely! I remember getting so much into those first 5 or 6 issues of "Fury of..." when I was a kid! My attention tended to wander easily: "Ooh! X-Men!" But as with the Legion, I remembered him and later went back and caught up with Ronnie and the Prof again and got most of the issues I missed.

Firestorm still feels like one of the freshest concepts to come out of the Bronze Age. I never understood why DC wouldn't attempt to revive the character as he was. I know John Ostrander reinvented the character as an elemental at the end of his run (a rare misstep by Ostrander, imo), but it's not like DC couldn't undo it. I think they sorta did in Extreme Justice and what-not, but they never seemed to get it right or put much effort into it.

Firestorm is definitely another character I could accept winning (ditto Dinah, Zee, Diana, J'Onn, maybe some others, and of course my own top 5). Firestorm is probably the most recent character I would consider a classic; given his power levels and role as the original League youngster I was always baffled as to why DC waited so long to make him a League member again!

Hmm, maybe I should amend the list to read "Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond & Martin Stein). I had thought about it, but the Jason Rusch version also had Prof. Stein so I left him out.

I hope that Plastic Man makes to at least the top three. He perfectly fit the niche that Morrison needed for his run, and has had good writers before and since. He showed good comradely with his fellow JLA-ers; even telling Elongated Man in "Injustice" that it is okay to have two stretchy guys on the team. I also respect his high power-level.

I do think Plastic Man added a nice comedic balance to the Morrison era League. And he was fleshed out very well, the storylines involving his son and his feelings of betrayal after Tower of Babel were very realistic and made him very sympathetic. The only reason I bumped him off my list is because I also tend to lean more towards the JLI and Satellite Eras.

Was this a last gasp/homage of the Silver Age!

Firestorm, The Hawks, Hal Jordon, (a bizarre) Wonder Woman, the Atom, Elongated Man ... I think Superman appeared in other panels in the issue. I love Wally chatting up his "uncles". Such a great visual too! No Zee or Black Canary but they were slightly more recently involved in the JLA.

And Power Girl threw a fridge at some Khunds! HA!




I also think Ronny and Dr. Stein were the perfect mix for Firestorm, I wonder if writers miss the point of some of these characters when they mess them up. I think a character like Ronnie appeals to kids wanting to be super heroes and involved stories have some universal appeal rather than just ... sex, violence, splash page, death, resurrection, im the baddest mofo whos the best at being bad, or oh im so messed up im complicated and intense ...

I can't wait for the next round, I have a feeling it is about to get ugly!

I liked that about Wally. He was pretty much the first sidekick to truly graduate, and he struck a nice balance between being the "new" kid and an experienced hero in his own right.

Crazy hot-tempered Kara. She's such a scene-stealer when she loses it!

Poor Captain Atom, he left our game pretty early. Although his stint as Monarch ruined him, and I disliked his portrayal around the Overmaster/Extreme Justice era.

Black Lightning was on 9 lists, but his highest rank was 12th and he just didn't have enough points to stay in the game. Goes to show how important ranking is. Conversely, characters like Apache Chief, Black Vulcan, Sue Dibny, Rocket Red, Captain Comet, Etrigan, Silver Sorceress and Tasmanian Devil were on only 2 to 4 lists but each got very high rankings on the lists they WERE in. Based on the stats, a single first place vote would have been enough to keep any single character safe.

Some other thoughts...

Not too surprised that J'Onn made it on everyone's lists. For the longest time he was portrayed as the heart and soul of the League, and he was a key member of most incarnations of the team as well. I would be happy with a J'Onn win.

Pleasantly surprised to see Vixen so popular, as her only League stints were Detroit and post-Infinite Crisis. Although I do remember her being a bright spot during both eras.

Booster Gold is the most popular non-Satellite Era member, and this I don't find that surprising.

Batman, the least popular founder and Big 3 member in the first two rounds, has leapfrogged over Diana and Clark.

Speaking of, Diana is the least popular of the four female Satellite Leaguers...

... but Green Arrow is the least popular of all Satellite Leaguers, except for the Phantom Stranger. If you count him.

Wally's not doing as well as I thought he would be, considering his long tenure. Is he still under Barry's shadow?

I'm also a bit surprised that Fire and Ice aren't doing better. I have always thought of them as JLI-era mainstays. Although the Overmaster mess ruined Ice, and Fire was also very whiny during that era.

Of the characters going home this round I'm probably most surprised at Metamorpho's departure. He had a pretty long tenure and I fondly remember many of his storylines and his dry, world-weary personality.

I'm also a bit surprised by Oracle's departure. Although, I was always of the opinion that she could do her job perfectly well without being a full member of the League. But she did make a good Leaguer.

And Big Barda proves more popular than husband Mr. Miracle. I personally like Barda more as well, Scott was a bit too glib for me.

Finally, I'm pleased Kimiyo continues to hang in there, but I'm very sure she won't win. Her sudden personality 180 during her JLE tenure really hurt the character.

Also happy that Sue Dibny's continuing to do fairly well despite never having been a full-fledged Leaguer. Identity Crisis broke my heart

I've been harping on and on about the importance of ranking, and I always make sure we vote for less than half the remaining characters. So what happens when we're forced to trim our lists by quite a bit?

This round ends latest on my Thursday night, which is Thursday morning US time.

House Rules

1) Each round will last about 48 hours. I will try to end each round at the same time, but this won't always be possible because of work.

2) I'll vote at the start of every round to minimize bias on my part.

3) I don't actively encourage editing of votes; it's a smart tactic but may be unfair for those who don't get to log on as often. However, I won't disallow them either. I'll only tally votes at the end of each round (to make it easier on myself!). I'll post on this thread the minute I start tallying to alert everyone; votes that come in after that will be ignored.

4) In case of errors in the results, I'll post a correction immediately. If anyone's vote was affected by the error, that poster will be notified by PM immediately. If the poster cannot correct his/her votes before the end of the round, he/she will get a makeup point next round - a +15 bonus. This only applies to instances where I made the error, and not where the poster made an error.

5) Points will be given based on your ranking. The higher you rank a character on your list, the more points that character will get (e.g. Rank 1 gets 10 points, Rank 2 gets 9 points...) Point distributions will change per round.

6) Exception to the above will be the first 1-2 rounds of the game, which trim the list down considerably. Each vote will count as one point, and characters below a certain point threshold get eliminated.

7) Because several characters have the same code name, and because the list includes multiple realities, PLEASE SPECIFY which character you are voting for. I won't make assumptions for votes which don't identify the character clearly. Example, if you vote for:

I'll only count the votes for Maya and Elongated Man. I have no way of knowing if you're voting for JLU Superman vs. Pre Flashpoint Superman, or whether you're voting for Hal, Kyle, Guy or John.

On the departed:-

Mister Miracle I remember most fondly from the Maguire issues. He was the team's link to the New Gods. As I didn't know a great deal about him, his importance in the first arc endeared him to me. From there, it was a Bwah ha has and robot duplicates that I wasn't as interested in.

I felt Metamorpho was better in the Outsiders. As grumpy as he was I don't remember too many highlights from the JLE run or his later membership. His stories invariably involved Stagg Ind with little changing.

Captain Marvel didn't hang around long enough in the JL to do much. The Manhunter Marvel fight was really good though.

Lightning and Arsenal were in the Meltzer run that didn't do much for me weren't they? So not likely to get too many points form me.

Nightwing reviving a League when the others went missing worked well, because Nightwing is a far better team player than Batman. Other heroes like him more and still trust his abilities. But he's never going to keep the cowl so tenures are short. He was in the forgettable JL Task Force though too I think.

I remember Oracle appearing in Suicide Squad, and she was an important, if supporting, member even with Manhunter's telepathy available.
