I was confused by the Hawks thing as well.

For the record, I do think a lot of the characters are different enough pre-Crisis versus post-Crisis to differentiate them, but I won't insist on it.

However, I see a compromise. We always have at least one Wild Card round in the game where we vote for characters to return to the list. If you can help me identify which Leaguers should have Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis versions, I can split them off for the Wild Card round Do note though that this may split the votes and weaken the position of these characters.

What does everyone think?

Before I post the results, I realized from people's votes that we'd better clarify something - the identities of the various Hawks on the list.

First off, my apologies. While making the list, I forgot that we originally had the Silver Age, Earth-1 Hawks as JLA members. The Golden Age, Earth-2 Hawks were only retconned in to replace the Post-COIE erased-from-existence Silver Age Hawks. So, our list is actually missing a pair of Hawks!

Our current list reads thus -

(Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkgirl (Shiera Hall) (this was supposed to be the Earth-1, Silver Age Hawkgirl)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkman (Carter Hall) (this was supposed to be the Earth-1, Silver Age Hawkman)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkman (Fel Andar) (the Thanagarian spy)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkman (Katar Hol) (this was supposed to be the Hawkman who was created during Zero Hour)
(Pre-Flashpoint) Hawkwoman (Sharon Carter) (the partner of the Thanagarian spy)

So the list is missing the Golden Age Hawks.

I'll amend the list beginning Round 2 to read:

Because votes in previous rounds are used to break ties in this game, Shayera will be given the same number of points as Shiera, and the two Katars will be given the same number of round 1 points too.

Now, why am I doing this for the Hawks and not for characters who had significant changes Post-Crisis/Post-Zero Hour, such as Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman? This is because the Hawks are clearly meant to be different characters - different names, planets of origin, etc. There isn't a big enough degree of differentiation for the Clark Kents or Diana Princes. I think we have to draw the line somewhere.

Also, I noticed from the voting patterns that some of us paired Shiera with Katar; and one of us voted for Shiera Thal instead of Shiera Hall. This made me realize that we could possibly be thinking of different characters, and might cause us problems later on.

If anyone else has suggestions/comments on the list, please post them during Round 2. I'll consider the suggestions for Round 3 and beyond; but we won't make anymore changes once Round 3 starts. I think that's fair enough since these are still the early rounds

I plan on Shayera Hol (Silver Age) being the winner.

I'd just as soon not bother with this in this game, but I would think Supes and Diana are definites to be distinguished, and I'd separate Dinah Drake Lance (of Earth-2) from Dinah Laurel Lance (the daughter of the original) even though the retcon was made a couple of years before Crisis.

Gypsy saved the day a few times in the Detroit league, but it was a bit of a sign when an undeveloped character had to save the butt of an undeveloped team.

As much I liked Orion in the New Gods/JLA/JSA crossover he was just the shouty one in Morrison's JLA.

Of the others I padded out my first round picks with, I like a lot of them far more for stories outside the JLA: Adam Strange, Ambush Bug, Animal Man, Aztek, Captain Comet, Firehawk, Jason Rusch, not to mention those with Titans/ Legion or JSA links. Power Girl was a tough choice, but I was never terribly keen on her over aggressiveness in JLE. Not to mention having her power levels dropped so as not to get in the way of the Super-family.

A little surprised Kendra didn't make it through.

I am shocked that no Post-Flashpoint characters survived the initial culling. I know the post-52 books are controversial here, but some characters like Vibe and Cyborg are getting more exposure now than before Flashpoint. As for Pre and Post Crisis separation, I think that would be more important for a Villains Edition because their actions are highly dependent on the Comics Code. I would totally love a Villains Edition.

Hmm... I might be down for that...

I also like Katar Hol (Silver Age) WAY WAY better than the other Hawkmen.

The Hawks seem like a special case of ... damn they crapped on my origin and character ... but I think stipulating Silver Age or Satellite Era might do it.

1) It's only Round 2 and I'm already broken-hearted about having to leave so many favorites off my list. This game is going to get emotional for me.

Thanks, EDE. I hadn't realized that Dinah the mother was also a JLAer. I remember the story where Dinah thought she was her mother, only to be revealed she was the daughter the whole time; I always had the impression DC never erased this, so we ended up with Dinah Jr. having always been the JLAer while her mother was only active in the JSA.

I always did wonder how Dinah could go all that time thinking she was her mother, when she was actually around 20 years younger! So she was going around thinking she was in her 40s, when she was actually only in her 20s? Did she just think she was just supernaturally youthful-looking the whole time?

However, I'm disappointed that only three Super Friends made it beyond the first round.

*Sigh*. If El Dorado were still in, he's the one I'd be rooting for!
