Show off (and what an apt number. How about picking 52 Post-Flashpoint characters? :p)

My first list was about 55 as well, and I was only able to bring it to 60+ after some thinking.

Right now though I am regretting not voting for a few characters. But none of them are top favorites, so I can live with omitting them from my list.





The Legion editions was a lot harder for me to trim down. After getting past my initial top-tier faves, there were just so many others I wanted to fit in!

And as for the upsets, the ranking format really makes for a lot of surprises. In Titans Idol, Flamebird was a Wild Card who returned to the list - and made it to the Top 3!

In Legion Idol, we aso had Tyroc return to the list TWICE and make it all the way to Top 10.

And who can forget Postboot Legion Idol, where fan fave Invisible Kid was knocked out of the game in 6th place!

I wonder what the rules are regarding commenting on selections. Obviously there's the danger of influencing others.

So, to pick an example at complete random, you might have someone seemingly mocking the forgettable Moon Maiden. That hypothetical, nameless, person may suggest the vast, utter supremacy of another character. Again, to arbitrarily select someone, let's say that was Tomorrow Woman. So, while it would be nice to say why you selected someone who to everyone is obviously the better character, you'd not want to sway other voters. Tricky. I'm glad it's not happened.

I'm pretty sure there will be very little swaying, especially once we get to the latter rounds Even subliminal messaging doesn't work. I've secretly arranged my posts so that if you put together the 4th letter of every word, they spell out "Vote Gleek to be the next JLIdol". But I don't see many Gleek votes yet...

I forgot to mention, I think active, civil, open-minded discussion on characters should be encouraged in this game. That's part of the fun of playing, talking about the characters.

Consider Tomorrow Woman and Moon Maiden. One is telekinetic, the other controls gravity. One sacrificed her android existence to die a hero, the other let herself be erased from time to save the world. What makes one more popular than the other? The story, the writing, the origin, the fact that one appeared subsequently while the other did not?

Before I post the results, I realized from people's votes that we'd better clarify something - the identities of the various Hawks on the list.

First off, my apologies. While making the list, I forgot that we originally had the Silver Age, Earth-1 Hawks as JLA members. The Golden Age, Earth-2 Hawks were only retconned in to replace the Post-COIE erased-from-existence Silver Age Hawks. So, our list is actually missing a pair of Hawks!

Our current list reads thus -

Because votes in previous rounds are used to break ties in this game, Shayera will be given the same number of points as Shiera, and the two Katars will be given the same number of round 1 points too.

Now, why am I doing this for the Hawks and not for characters who had significant changes Post-Crisis/Post-Zero Hour, such as Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman? This is because the Hawks are clearly meant to be different characters - different names, planets of origin, etc. There isn't a big enough degree of differentiation for the Clark Kents or Diana Princes. I think we have to draw the line somewhere.

Also, I noticed from the voting patterns that some of us paired Shiera with Katar; and one of us voted for Shiera Thal instead of Shiera Hall. This made me realize that we could possibly be thinking of different characters, and might cause us problems later on.

If anyone else has suggestions/comments on the list, please post them during Round 2. I'll consider the suggestions for Round 3 and beyond; but we won't make anymore changes once Round 3 starts. I think that's fair enough since these are still the early rounds

Thanks for the clarification, because I voted both Hawkgirls not sure which correlated to Shayera Hol.

If we are looking at possible late editions (and looking at animated versions), should we add Karate Kid and Dawnstar from the latest Justice league animated movie?

I'm glad this came up in Round 1 And thanks for the suggestion Dave, I'll add Karate kid and Dawnstar too! I'll chuck them under the "JLU Toon" category. I'm glad you posted, at least we can add them in before Round 2!

Robinson Leaguers going in over Aztek? This, of course, means war.

Aztek had a short but fairly memorable run. I think his disarming of all those missiles in Rock of Ages was great.

Some other interesting things I see -

For the Pre-Flashpoint versions, Batman is the least popular of the Big Three. He and Aquaman are the least popular of the founding seven, while J'Onn and Diana top that list.
A similar pattern is seen for the JLU Toon, with Wonder Woman being more popular than Superman, who is more popular than Batman. But it's GL and Hawkgirl who are the most popular JLU founders, while J'Onn joins Batman at the bottom.

I'm slightly more surprised by Red Tornado topping the list than I am about Zatanna. I never knew Reddy was so popular here.

A lot of duos are split up - Blue Beetle (Ted) gets 1 more point than Booster, while Fire gets one more point than Ice.

John Stewart has 1 more vote than Hal Jordan, while Kyle Rayner has the least votes among the four Earth GLs.

Sue Dibny comes in at a respectable 6 votes. pretty good considering she was only an Honorary!

The Super Friends "originals" all got different numbers of votes. Black Vulcan got 6, Apache Chief got 5, Samurai got 4.

Shiera has twice as many votes as Carter.

Constance (Crimson Fox) has one more vote than her sister Vivian.

It pays to have been a founding Titan - only Tempest/Garth didn't squeak through. Wally, Dick, Donna and Roy all made it. Starfire and the multiple versions of Cyborg (3 of 'em!!) all didn't.

I was confused by the Hawks thing as well.

For the record, I do think a lot of the characters are different enough pre-Crisis versus post-Crisis to differentiate them, but I won't insist on it.

Okay, I've blabbed long enough. Let's begin ROUND 2!!

We have 87 characters left this round, which is still quite a lot (though already a massive bloodbath - we started with 332 characters, and we also added 4 characters to the list at the start of this round!) That means we lost 249 characters last round.

Let's trim the list down a little bit more before we start ranking.

Vote for any characters on the list, minimum of 1, maximum of 30 (THIRTY). NO RANKING NEEDED YET.

To proceed to Round 3, a character must have been voted for by 1/4 of the voters in this round. Hopefully after this round we'll only have from 40-50 characters left. If we end up with less than 40, I'll bump characters through based on how many points they have accumulated (Round 1 points + Round 2 points).

For those using a PC/laptop, it would be very helpful if you can copy the names on the list as they appear exactly smile I use VLOOKUP on Microsoft Excel to tally the votes and it only works if the names are written exactly the same. Thanks in advance

It's about 11pm Philippine time now, or 8am LA time. I'll target to end the round about this same time, give or take a couple hours, on Friday night (Friday morning US time). Blaze and I have a dinner date that night and we only get to see each other on weekends

House Rules

1) Each round will last about 48 hours. I will try to end each round at the same time, but this won't always be possible because of work.

2) I'll vote at the start of every round to minimize bias on my part.

3) I don't actively encourage editing of votes; it's a smart tactic but may be unfair for those who don't get to log on as often. However, I won't disallow them either. I'll only tally votes at the end of each round (to make it easier on myself!). I'll post on this thread the minute I start tallying to alert everyone; votes that come in after that will be ignored.

4) In case of errors in the results, I'll post a correction immediately. If anyone's vote was affected by the error, that poster will be notified by PM immediately. If the poster cannot correct his/her votes before the end of the round, he/she will get a makeup point next round - a +15 bonus. This only applies to instances where I made the error, and not where the poster made an error.

5) Points will be given based on your ranking. The higher you rank a character on your list, the more points that character will get (e.g. Rank 1 gets 10 points, Rank 2 gets 9 points...) Point distributions will change per round.

6) Exception to the above will be the first 1-2 rounds of the game, which trim the list down considerably. Each vote will count as one point, and characters below a certain point threshold get eliminated.

7) Because several characters have the same code name, and because the list includes multiple realities, PLEASE SPECIFY which character you are voting for. I won't make assumptions for votes which don't identify the character clearly. Example, if you vote for:
