Can't wait! Love the pages from the Charleton Universe!

This looks to be just the kind of thing Morrison excels at.

Oh dear. All that time and the second link leads you to think at least one issue is just a take on Watchmen.

Which sounds a bit critical, but DC Events just leave me that cold. Perhaps they'll allow this Morrison effort to actually be told in the actual series, without jumping off into Batman comics.

I've been going through some old Superman/Superboy comics. Some of those imaginary stories on parallel worlds would have current creators drooling with envy.

Morrison has said in other interviews that it will be a take/rebuttal on Watchmen. I've heard him say he'll be using the same kind of panel structure with transitions, etc, but with his own obvious tweak on it. Morrison and Moore have certainly been amping up their on-line animosity in recent years (though I'm still convinced half of the statements from both of them are a bit of a lark), and I'm sure this will be a meaty bit of grist for the mills.

I'm only vaguely familiar with some possible animosity. I only vaguely care really. I still don't quite get the hype considering the falling sales on comics that are based on characters that no one in the room created. That applies to Moore also.

From what little I did read, it would seem that Moore's old comment about DC always dredging up his ideas holds as true now as it was then. Regardless of how many nods Morrison makes to DC continuity, or how many iterations of characters he makes.

Okay, so, going over the worlds that were mentioned:

"Prepare to meet the Vampire Justice League of Earth-43, the Justice Riders of Earth-18, Superdemon, Doc Fate, the super-sons of Superman and Batman, the rampaging Retaliators of Earth-8, the Atomic Knights of Justice, Dino-Cop, Sister Miracle, Lady Quark, the legion of Sivanas, the Nazi New Reichsmen of Earth-10 and the LATEST, greatest superhero of Earth-Prime -- YOU!"

Earth-43 was stated to be the universe home to the Batman/Dracula Elseworlds trilogy where Batman became a vampire. It was seen in the Search For Ray Palmer, the DC Infinite Halloween Special in 2007, and Countdown Arena, but it seems Bruce may have turned the JLA as well as Dick Grayson.

Earth-18 is the Justice Riders Elseworlds, and we saw the Diana Prince from that world in Countdown Arena where she was killed by the Amazonia Wonder Woman.

Superdemon was seen in the Final Crisis Sketchbook and he was supposed to be a combination of Superman and Etrigan, where Etrigan was sent to Earth from the planet Camelot and bonded with Jason Blood, the young son of a Kansas preacher. The sketchbook listed him as a resident of Earth-17, which was also home to the Atomic Knights.

Doc Fate was mentioned in the Sketchbook as well but had an appearance in Final Crisis, a pulp take on Doctor Fate who also teamed up with Lady Blackhawk, the Mighty Atom, Abin Sur the Green Lantern, Immortal Man, and Bat-Man.

The Super-Sons Earth seems to be the one Morrison mentioned where the teen heroes are like the MTV generation and have their own reality shows.

Earth-8 was originally home to new versions of Lord Havok and the Extremists and was a take on the Ultimate Marvel line, but it seems Morrison may be doing something similar.

Dino-Cop might be something similar to Captain Carrot or it could be an attempt at something original in the DC Multiverse.

Sister Miracle seems to allude to the New Gods and may be a gender reversed Earth or maybe a descendant or acolyte of Scott Free.

Lady Quark has been tied into Multiverse books since the first Crisis. She was originally from Earth-6 where Earth seemed to be ruled by a royal family as an indicator that Revolutionary War never happened or that America lost. Lady Quark watched as her husband and daughter, Lord Volt and Princess Fern, were killed by the antimatter wall before she was saved by Pariah.

Legion of Sivanas seems to be an obvious nod to the Marvel Family and Doctor Sivana, but a whole legion may be a nod to a Marvel Family based LOSH. You never know.

And the Nazi New Reichsmen of Earth-10, Morrison kept trying to do something with a new version of Earth-X where the Nazis won WWII and he featured a Nazi Superman named Overman in Final Crisis. An Earth-10 Justice League was also seen in Countdown to Final Crisis and Countdown Arena where it was implied there was a woman fuhrer, but Morrison's take implied that this was an Earth-10 where the Nazi party had successfully created a utopia built on genocide, and that Overman, instead of being a blatantly proud Nazi, was guilt ridden that he stood for an empire built on human suffering. The Final Crisis Sketchbook said that Overman's allies were Leatherwing, Brunhilde, Underwaterman, and his so-called cousin Overgirl. Their enemies included Abomination and the English-speaking Uncle Sam and his Freedom Fighters. Overgirl died in Final Crisis, and Morrison once referred to Overman as Masterman in a later interview about Multiversity.

A Justice League of Monsters could be neat, but I imagine it's been done before.

Batman - vampire, obviously
Aquaman - creature from the black lagoon
Superman - gray alien
Wonder Woman - ?
Green Lantern - genie creating stuff out of 'smokeless fire'
Flash - quickling fey/changeling
Black Canary - siren

Just needs a mummy and a Frankenstein's monster...

They did something like that but it wasn't an Elseworlds.

Dan Brereton wrote and drew a JLA one shot called Seven Caskets where the League has to deal with some Lovecraft esque threat and end up having to take on somewhat monstrous forms in order to battle said threat. This was back during the era of Morrison's league.

I love Lady Quark. I've always identified with regal, imperious characters. Draw your own conclusions from that. wink

She was also awesome as written by Alan Grant & Barry Kitson in L.E.G.I.O.N.

I was just doing so, when someone whispered the penalty for treason in your realm to me. Moving swiftly on...

I thought Quark and Harbinger would be certainties for a Justice League. Particularly as the league was so underpowered at the time.

But no, neither of them was really used to near their potential (something I type so often I should have it as a signature). Thinking about some of the other creations from Events, what a waste.

I disagree, I think Lady Quark more than lived up to her potential in L.E.G.I.O.N. But then, the first 55 issues of L.E.G.I.O.N. are some of my favorite comics of all time, so I might be a BIT biased...

EDIT: I almost forgot, here's a story I wrote a few years ago with Lady Quark in a supporting role:

Another example of differing reading experiences (I was going to say "exposure", but it's LW, so that's only going to be taken the wrong way.)

I've not read any of the L.E.G.I.O.N.* issues with her in it. I forgot all about L.E.G.I.O.N.** when I typed my post. I was thinking of Harbinger in New Guardians when I typed, and not L.E.G.I.O.N.***

I'm trying to think why I didn't keep going with it. It can't have been the Kitson art. My memory cell says that the first few issues were pretty decent, and I read Invasion. An annoying Lobo perhaps? Not enough going on after the first arc?

Both were indeed nice and powerful and dynamic (Lady Quark, more so, IMO), but might have been seen to fit the same sort of flying blaster 'niche' that the new Dr. Light (who, IIRC, also showed up in the same event) did.

At least they didn't bring Pariah back. What a schmuck.

Lardy, LOL lol

Thoth, here's a thread which comprehensively reviews the first 55 issues of L.E.G.I.O.N. and its first 2 annuals.

(Oh, yeah, and its also one of my threads. Not that I'm a self-promoter or anything. angel )

Good point, Set, I hadn't thought of that. Of course, Kimiyo also ended up as having a lot of wasted potential. sigh

Actually the DID bring Pariah back.

In Villains United Gail Simone had them reveal that Lady Quark was still alive (even though wasn't she supposed to have died at some point) and was hunted by Sinestro and the Secret Society for Alexander Luthor's machine since she was the sole survivor of Earth-6.

Pariah was revealed to be a prisoner of Alex's whom he promptly killed to make sure he wouldn't warn the other heroes about what was really going on.

In Supergirl Dark Angel apparently used her powers to bring him back to life, but he turned up as a Black Lantern. I use the Supergirl example for the basis of Dark Angel being able to flawlessly revive the dead, and she or the Monitors most likely killed him off again when he was no longer needed.

Did Harbinger to get killed off with a whimper too. Possibly as an archivist on Paradise Island.
