Goofy pose or not, that full-size shot of Validus really freaked me out at the time. As did the vignettes and captions for Mano and Tharok. Emerald Empress was simply awesome in her evilness, and Persuader was so forgettable I didn't remember who the fifth member was until I seriously got into the Legion years later.

Two things that strike me about the central fight.

1) the 1950's monster movie background and fleeign citizens shows that Validus isn;t bothered about how many people are getting killed in this fight.

2) Because their poses are very similar, it's easy to see that Mon-Els reach isn't going to help him avoid being knocked over the horizon.

The headshots, with their great characterisation remind me of the JLA/JSA/All star squadron (no acronym for them for some reason).

I'm sure Sarya had at least one scene in this arc where you could say "Yep, she's going to be the leader soon."

In the end it's revealed that Validus is a wind-up doll tongue

Honestly, I'd be very surprised if that weren't the case at all.

Persuader's atomic axe certainly is nowhere near as formidable a weapon as the Empress' Emerald Eye!

Especially when Tellus showed up. Blok and Tellus had somewhat similar personalities. Blok's lack of unique powers also made him less integral to the team for me.

Good point, Ibby. Tellus was much more convincing as the childlike innocent than Blok was.

Yes, and Tellus' motives for joining the Legion fit his childlike innocent role better too. Blok's arc from duped villain to new hero should, I think, have given him more of a worldly side to his personality

Shame that Tellus' naivety made him believe in the Dark Circle.

Blok wouldn't have fallen for that, being such a student of the Legion archives. There was a bigger part for him during the Conspiracy when the team were pulling in different directions. Blok had already seen how deceit and divisiveness had ruined his fellow survivors and the LSA group.

It was a shame Roxxas knocked his Blok off.

Yeah, Tellus did the fish out of water thing better. (Ba dum tish!)

Number Five on this list is one reason I love Blok.

I know I've said it before, but it would be nice if Blok had at least one more unique power. Maybe let him control rock and earth. Nightwind does wind, Sun Boy does fire, Polar Boy does ice (though not water)...

I digress, but his number 15 involves reintroducing the Postboot Kinetix as the new Threeboot Emerald Empress. Whoa!

And number 29 has Ultra Boy being street smart 5YL Jo instead of dumb jackass Threeboot Jo!

In a way, it might be too predictable.

(Although I did have an alternate universe where several of the more mystical / traditionalist worlds seceded from the UP to form an alliance headed up by Xerox, and one of the travelling diplomats of the alliance was Elysion, the son of Blok and Mysa.)

Other powers;

the ability to absorb earth and stone into himself to increase his size, would take him in more of a Colossal Boy direction

the ability to extrude parts of himself and control them remotely, like little tiny Blok minions, would take him in a more Triplicate Girl direction

the ability to bond with the geo-sphere of another world (or rocky body, such as an asteroid) and learn information about it such as having some sort of mystical insight about the surrounding terrain, etc. He wouldn't necessarily be able to shape the earth and stone, but would, on a spiritual sort of level, be able to psychically connect with it and learn stuff from it, or perceive stuff through it remotely

He's got some cool ideas. And a few stinkers. Like anyone, not every idea is a gem, but he's got some neat ones (and his 'I should write Dr. Strange' article is similarly interesting.

Blok was depicted with lots of unique powers. Just none of them very useful. Neutralize anti-gravity? Rock telepathy? meh.

Yeah, that's why I ignored those powers when thinking about Blok. How many sentient rocks has the Legion encountered?

I like Set's ideas:

Both these powers are fairly unique and could have many useful applications in the stories.

Uh-oh, Mekt has mind controlled Ayla. She's using her powers to...oh no she isn't. thanks Blok.

Storm Boy has merged with the ancient Tornado Tyrant! Only someone with huge mass can stand uprigh..oh thanks for knocking him out Blok.

There's no doubt that the Dominators control the Earth and have shut down all communications. Fortunately, one of our group is still in touch with the underground. Blok? Could you tell Stone Boy the Legion is on its way?

The less than useful powers are easily the most interesting ones.
