In all seriousness, I do think it would be fun to see the Legion as depicted by Kevin Maguire. Maybe a lighthearted (or even -- dare I say it? -- goofy) one-shot in the vein of FKATJL! And I'd love to see Ed Benes's work on the Legion. Even a pin-up in the next Secret Files would by very cool! ![cool cool](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/cool.gif)

Ed Benes drawing Tinya, my honey? Holey Moley! I don't think I could handle it I'd love to see him start drawing the Legion. He and Gail have breathed new life into the Birds of Prey, and made the Huntress an interesting character (at least to me)!

No offense to Chip or Batista, but this is getting to be quite a list. And Gail Simone's gonna do Legion! Whoo-hoo! Hope Chip and Batista get to do more issues too.

So what other titles is Gail Simone associated with besides Birds of Prey and Rose and Thorn? I've heard good things about BoP lately. Is it really a good read? What makes it good ? I'm afraid to try it because of all of the tie-ins with the Batman line.
Judging from the reaction here, this announcement is good news. Many of the posters here have good taste in comics so I don't mind sharing in the enthusiasm even though I ave had no previous exposure to simone's work. I love DnA but I am really quite ready for a fresh perspective on the Legion.

BoP has relatively few-to-no BATMAN tie-ins.
In fact, it is the ONLY "Batbook" I buy!

It bothers me that BoP is considered a "Batbook"... ![frown frown](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/frown.gif) The weakest parts of the entire series have come when there were forced crossovers with the regular Bat-titles. Bah! The only time I wanna see Bats in BoP is with his ass as a wheelchuck for Bab's wheelchair!

I wouldn't consider BoP a Batbook but if it helps it in sales, is it really that bad a thing?

Emphasis on the forced crossovers comment, Scotty-- same goes for Nightwing. While stuff like "Officer Down" might be good for individual issue sales, historically they do little to increase overall readership. And they really screw with the storyflow for regular readers. LAST JOKE, anyone? ![puke puke](/forums/images/graemlins/default_dark/puke.gif)

I don't consider BoP a bat-book at all either. In fact, I enjoy when Catwoman has little to no connection with Bats in her own book too. I love the Bat-books right now (although Gotham Central is the best Bat-related book on the market!), but I really enjoy when BoP, Catwoman, and Nightwing get a chance to shine without Batman looming over the book.

That I'll agree with. I really hope we've seen the end of the crossovers for awhile. Even within all the Superman titles its really annoying. But to do it outside what I would consider the family of books, Nightwing and BoP, is just sickening.

Right. Although when the Superman books were toally kicking ass, about ten years ago, I really enjoyed the crossing over between books. Now it gets on my nerves too!
I just would hate for them to go the route of Marvel right now, where it seems like every comic book is totally unrelated to another comic book, as if they aren't all in the same universe. Continuity can still be beneficial, like in the way Flash, JSA, Hawkman and Teen Titans are all connected without any crossovers. When BoP is like that, that is when it's most enjoyable (continuity-wise).
In a sidenote, with Gail coming on BoP, I went from totally disliking the Huntress to suddenly wondering if we'll see her take out that parking security officer to dinner. This turnaround for the Huntress is what made me really start enjoying the book so much (I've always loved Dinah and Babs).

Being that I am one of the only (if not the only) Deadpool fans on this board... I believe Gail wrote the first seven or so issues of the Agent X series once DP was cancelled. She may have been at the end of the DP Series, but I can't remember off the top of my head, and my collection is a few states away.
I dropped the book, but it wasn't because of her writing, she had some pretty good ideas, and I actually remember giggling a couple of times. The problem I had with the book came from trying to hash out whether Agent X was really Wade or not? For my money, that's just not what Deadpool should be about. And to be honest, that story had already played itself out once or twice before in the series.

I'd like to add to the welcoming of Gail Simone. I look forward to those upcoming issues with her writing. One post mentioned having a woman's perspective on the Legion as a good idea, and I couldn't agree more. I'd also like to see Colleen Doran art on the Legion in the near future! Welcome, Gail!

Not much has been mentioned here about DnA departing the Legion. This news came as somewhat a surprise to me. Does anyone know WHY they are leaving?
I'd like to say that I have enjoyed their Legion work from the start right up thru the Foundations storyline to date. Not only did they revitalize the title from three years ago, I believe they may have very well saved the Legion from cancellation itself.
I congratulate Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning on their Legion work, and maybe they'll be back for Legion #39?

I certainly agree DnA (and most definitely Olivier Coipel-- and they discovered him) saved the title from near-certain cancellation.
I've enjoyed most of their stuff.
I think they've made a mark on the team for years to come.
That said, I am certainly ready for the stories by Gail Simone (and Waid too should that come to pass).

Their interview over at The Pulse indicated that they were just ready to leave. In fact, they mentioned they were considering leaving after McAvennie was let go and they thought they had said all they had to say with the Legion. I agree that they've put together a good tenure. I don't feel as though it's been cut short, since they'll have been on as long as the previous two Legion creative staff were (Bierbaums, then McGraw/Peyer/Waid & Stern). Plus, I haven't been overly impressed with anything they've done since the middle of Dream Crime.
