That would be the video. G.E. Smith, who would later lead the SNL band, plays guitar in the video.
Anyone want to try for the VJ? You have a one-in-five chance. If no one gets it within 24 hours, the victory goes to thothkins.

Apparently, no one remembers the original five VJs. The answer was Alan Hunter.
Victory is yours, thothy.

Since we've had Mark E Smith and G E Smith, it's only fitting that the next question has some Smiths connection. Which band was Morrissey a fan club member of in his early days.

Continuing to explore Morrissey's influences, what T. Rex song did he cover on some nights of his first solo tour in 1991? Hint: it's from the "Electric Warrior" album.

Did anyone read the DC Electric Warrior series?
Anyway, Bang a Gong would be the obvious choice so I'll go instead for ...hmmm either Monolith or Cosmic Dancer. I like Monolith more, so I'll go with that.

I'll go with Cosmic Dancer then.

Moving into some Glam territory with T Rex, name the Lightning Lad fan club in the following picture.

I couldn't have been more obscure if I tried, as this wasn't going to be my question. Some "Tips" for you. - Named after an ingredient in a coffee bottle. - Were one of the first bands to use Moog synthesiser, although it seems to have been done for them. - The song that they are known for (and it's possibly the only one) was released before the original version made it's way to the UK. - "Their" song made it to No 1 in the UK where it took over from a T Rex number (Which was the oh so tenuous link to the last question)

I could do a little bit of research to find the answer, but that would feel like cheating.
I get the feeling I should know these guys--their faces look familiar. But it seems to me they're a band that had some success in the UK but little if any in the US.
As I see it, we have two ways of proceeding, thothy: you can post another clue (perhaps a U.S.-centric one, if these guys are known in the U.S. at all), or we can call it a draw and you can post a new question.

Definitely an honourable draw. Funny that Eryk posted Sweet as my original question was to do with them. It turns out that something I'd heard was a bit of an urban myth. Then I saw the Ranzz family portrait.
The band's name was Chicory Tip. Since Eryk got the answer to a question that I was going to post, he can ask the next question.

I'd have gotten Sweet. Never heard of Chicory Tip--and I did not know it was an ingredient on a coffee bottle! I've never heard "Son of My Father" either. (Now that the answer's been revealed, I feel it's okay to do a little research.) However, there is a U.S. connection. Founder member Rick Foster went on to join Edison Lighthouse, which earlier had had a hit with "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" (source: http://chicorytip.net/). Funny the things you learn . . .

Dox kicked the time bubble. "Stupid thing. Now the questions come after the answers."
The sweet question was going to be :-
"Name the band whose lead singer was related to the leading actor in a well known British crime drama."
With hints narrowing it down to glam on one side and a Scottish based tv show on the other. That would lead to Brian Connolly of Sweet and Mark McManus of the TV show Taggart. But it turns out they weren't as closely related as Connelly sometimes claimed and their appearance suggested.

I would've gotten it. I know a lot about Sweet. Ah, well. On to EDE's question.

Someone on the radio cited Chicory Tip as one of a few glam bands, along with other popular groups. I said "well, lots of folks have never head of them," sulkily to no one else in the car.
