I am a long time Legion reader but not a big " comic world" guy. So kind of my first time going through these boards. Now that the Legion looks like it has finally wrapped, I am wondering about some of the myriad on unanswered questions.
Now this has may have been answered, my memory of the DNA, various reboots is not as good as the original (when you read something a zillion times as a kid it sticks better) or it might have been answered on this board so forgive me if this sounds so familiar to you..

But did they ever explore why the Eye reacted so badly to Kryptonite, as shown in the Empresses first appearance (going only on memory, I have the issue somewhere please don't make me look). At the time I thought, hmm Eye Green, .. Green Kryptonite .. is the Eye an old relic from Krypton' s lost past... did they ever follow up on this

again I am enjoying the board, I was trying to think about culling some comics, when I moved out of my current office and retire in a few years, .. somehow I think home will just have to accommodate the collection (can it actually be close to 600, does anyone have a count)

It was never explored in the Postboot era, at least.

In 52, the Eye was instead tied to the Green Lantern Corps:

"Ekron is an ancient construct supposedly created by the Guardians of the Universe of Oa. By the 21st century it was little more than a large floating head serving as the Green Lantern of the planet Vengar. The eye of Ekron possesses properties and powers similar to those of the Green Lanterns' power rings, and was designed as the rings' prototype."

I am pretty sure neither the above origin nor the weakness to Kryptonite was touched on in the Preboot Legion either.

From the first Fatal Five issue -

"Vengar was the site of the long-dead Ekron civilisation, whose astounding scientific secrets were lost ...until..."

until Sarya used an ancient map to find the location of The Crypt of the Eye.

So, ancient civilisation with advanced science. But I always got the feeling it was an ancient map just of Vengar, rather than a galactic map of how to get to the planet and then the cave. Isn't Sarya from the planet?

Despite being described as a mystical artefact, it's first mentioned as a scientific artefact.

Here's the explanation of why Sarya found herself about to be burned at a stake with the eye unable to help.

So the eye has a limitation, and Sarya has to use a kryptonite rock to subdue Superman. But only an issue later the same eye is creating krytponite bands to trap Superman.

So much for being affected by Kryptonite, and the start of it being a device that could handily counter Superboy.

Wow, Sarya sure has a good tailor who can anticipate eventualities. Imagine, who would have thought of putting a lead-lined pocket in a cape?

I thought capes were where super heroes put their civilian clothes. For those that don't have capes, well...

I know that's where Superman supposedly put his clients, but I am wondering how a full set of "normal" clothes can fit into a cape. Maybe I just assumed they'd be "flimsier" and lighter given all the moving around heroes do (and what if Superman gets knocked through a brick wall, what's that gonna do to his clothes right?)

The tailor who creates the costumes? His sister runs a laundrette on the same block.

She gets the weight equipment from defunct hero and villain HQs to act as presses for the clothes. They are really pressed, and packaged in unstable molecule baggies for the customers on request.

Of course, there's more of a connection between Krypton and Venegar than just Sarya dgging out the eye from the lost Ekrons.

Both Jor-El and Val-El are clearly showing Emerald Eye regalia/artefacts and the line of statues shows the first appearance of an Emerald Legion, something that would be brought back in the post boot era.

The glow may actually be emerald energy, which is laced with Kryptonite. Poor Krypto has been attacked while asleep and still in his jammies.
