I admit to buying the My Little Pony comics. They're freakin' adorable. I take solace in knowing that there are hundreds of grown ass men doing the same thing every month.
The down side is that most of those grown ass men find them...ahem...."attractive" Anyways, I'm, ah, aquiring some older titles and story arcs I haven't read before, like Sgt. Rock, the Emerald Dawn and Twilight Arcs, Swamp Thing, stuff like that. If I like them I'll but them

"Bronies", UGHHH... I've read articles about elaborate "marriages" between these guys and their favorite pony. But I won't judge them if they don't judge me and my blow-up Batgirl... waitWHUT???

I realized I didn't include the one free webcomic that I regularly read, which is among the very best things going these days: Crossed: Wish You Were Here. Absolutely brutal, heartbreaking and poignant, its one of the more powerful ongoing stories I've ever read.
I highly recommend it, and its free. However, it is definitely not for the squeamish or faint of heart.

This is surprising, coming from you, as I've never sensed you had any interest in the Crossed franchise, whatsoever. I read the initial Garth Ennis series but wasn't impressed enough to continue to all the series that have followed since. So...is this on the Avatar website?

I had absolutely zero interest in Crossed at first and didn't even both with the initial Ennis mini. Even the covers of the series seemed gratuitous and ridiculous. Yet, Si Spurrier the writer seems very impressive. And well, its free. And Bleeding Cool kept pimping the free webcomic. So one day when I was bored I checked it out and read like the first 18 chapters...and was totally impressed! Like really impressed! I think you'll find "Wish You Were Here" pretty impressive too. It's really well done, with each chapter having maximum impact in a short space, and the characterization is approaching levels rarely seen in comics. The brutality is ever present but its done in such a way as to drive the characterization. But to reconfirm your initial thoughts: I have absolutely zero interest in any other Crossed related stuff. The brutality in "WYWH" is tough to take but has meaning; the other series just "feel" like they are gratuitous beyond imagining and I don't want to be torture porn. Here's a link: http://www.crossedcomic.com/category/the-webcomic/It continues to get better and better. I recommend reading it in big chunks, as I do. I usually wait a few months before doing a big catch up.

Is anyone reading Teen Titans or Red Hood and the Outlaws? If so, would you recommend either or both of them? I'm surprised that, given the flak it caused over Starfire's portrayal in #1, that Red Hood is still chugging right along. But after catching up on the cartoon Young Justice, I'm in the mood to catch up on Tim and Roy.
Also forgot that DnA's new Battlestar Galactica title was released last week. And Ye Ol'd Comic Shop had sold out of copies.

I'm surprised that, given the flak it caused over Starfire's portrayal in #1, that Red Hood is still chugging right along. But after catching up on the cartoon Young Justice, I'm in the mood to catch up on Tim and Roy. They really turned around Kory's presentation (and while it's claimed that this was the intent all along, I suspect that it's at least partially in response to the fan reaction). I haven't read as much in the last few months, because of the 'Death in the Family' Bat-crossover, but I'll be getting into it again now that this is over. A favorite scene recently was Kory, on board a Tamaranean battle-cruiser, turns to Roy and Jason to ask them for advice. Both start offering tactical suggestions and she icily interrupts them with 'It's so cute that you two are offering me combat advice, but...' Teen Titans hasn't been terrible, but it's not really anything to do with any previous Teen Titans you might be interested in. It's best to go into it with no preconceptions. Bart and Tim are at least vaguely recognizable, but just enough, really, to make me regret that these aren't the original characters. I think I would have liked it better if they didn't bother to give these new characters the same names.

I thought Teen Titans started out pretty strong, and was one of the better new 52 offerings from DC. But for me the series somehow went off the rails and has become pretty much unreadable. I could barely skim through the latest issues, not feeling anything towards the characters or plot.
Not sure what happened, but the writing just went seriously downhill.

Hm, mayhaps I will check out Red Hood then.
What bothers me most about Titans is that they are taking FOREVER in explaining the connection (if any) between Bart and Barry. It took over two years but Barry will finally meet Bart in the upcoming Flash #21.

Well, I'm down to E2, World's Finest, GL, Nightwing, and a few other DC like BoP which is on it's last legs with me. Action and Superman are nearly unreadable and will most likely be dropped next month.
Rachael Rising is doing well. I've been enjoying the Warlord of Mars books.
Justice league...is horrible and I'll most likely be dropping them, especially JLA because the only reason I was reading it was for hawkman, and he's basically a big dumb brute now.
Damn you, you kids! Get off my lawn or I'm callin' tha cops!

My current pull list continues to shrink. With the most recent wave of cancellations it's down to five must-haves:
Fables Fairest Larfleeze (a guilty pleasure) Saga Manhattan Projects
Plus the Marvel adaptations and expansions of Stephen King's Dark Tower series
There are another four that are somewhat conditional:
Earth 2 (only until Robinson leaves) Worlds' Finest (proof that Paul Levitz can still write if allowed to, but who knows how long that will last?) Justice League Dark (mostly because I am even more of a sucker for Boston Brand than I am for the Legion. Long story.) All-Star Western (which I will drop if they keep it in the 21st century much longer. Apparently they didn't learn their lesson with Legion Lost.)
I feel kinda bad for my local CBS owner, though. I'm trying to make up for it by completing runs of books I stopped buying in the mid-80s when Reagonomics forced me to stop buying comics altogether for several years. I look forward to seeing where Mike Baron took Nexus and the Badger in particular.
First comic books ever bought: A DC four-for-47-cents grab bag that included Adventure #331. The rest is history.

Afterlife with Archie Ash and the Army of Darkness Ghostbusters Saga
Star Wars The Star Wars
Deadpool
Larfleeze He-Man DC Universe VS. The Masters of the Universe Batman '66
I am also going to be catching back up on Chew. I miss that book.
I am also giving JL3000 a few issues.

Legion is done, X-Factor is done, Hypernaturals is done.
That leaves me with the new Young Avengers launch.
I was kind of excited by this 'villains month' thing at DC before I read some of the articles on it and remembered that these villains aren't the characters I remember from pre-DC-new. That pretty much nuked my interest in the concept.

I made my monthly trip to Pulp Nouveau Comix yesterday and I have to say it is the smallest month's worth of comics I have bought in a long time. I'm now down to nine books a month:
Fables Fairest Saga The Manhattan Projects T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Larfleeze Earth 2 All-Star Western Worlds' Finest
These are ranked roughly in order of preference, which means in less than two years the top two will be gone. As for the four DC titles, I will be dropping those when the current writers leave the books (which is only a matter of time considering the way things are now being done at that train wreck of a company).
It's not all bad, however. I am now able to save up and buy all the issues I missed of a couple of series that I really liked in the 1980s, but had to stop buying when my finances took a dive in '85 (or maybe '86, but that doesn't rhyme): Nexus (which I have from the B&W issues up through the mid 30s) and Badger (which I only have the first couple dozen issues of). Just can't bring myself to giving up comics altogether, I guess.
First comic books ever bought: A DC four-for-47-cents grab bag that included Adventure #331. The rest is history.

Do let us know what you think of those two. I used to see the adverts for them in whatever comic I was buying from that publisher. Whisper is what comes to mind um..first.

Pretty seismic shift for me lately, as I've purged quite a few titles.
My new pull list:
World's Finest FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics Sandman: Overture A Distant Soil Shadowman
There are a few titles from Peter Milligan coming out from Dynamite and Vertigo that I'll likely add as well. I got the first hardcover of Mind MGMT and loved it, but I may keep getting it in collected form as it seems to read better that way.

Nexus, The Badger and Whisper all started off being published by Capital Comics. As far as I'm concerned, from cover to cover Capital had the classiest overall look of any comics ever published. Unfortunately they were one of the first victims of Marvel's glutting of the market in the early 1980s. Although all three titles were revived by First, the overall production of the books themselves was never quite up to the standard set by Capital (at least of the First issues I have seen).
