Any costume with a thong seems pretty illogical to me. Unless it's Andromeda/Laurel Gand, in which case it is sacrilege not to have her in a thong. Of course, this could just be my own personal opinion... No. I take that back. It's a fact.

Send them to the opera if you want them in backless evening gowns and eff-me pumps. Would have loved to have sat in on that mission briefing. "Ladies, we have a very special assignment for you...."

I love that scene where they try to fit the entire Legion into a single stateroom!

Why would Superboy, Supergirl, Mon-El, or Laurel Gand need any costume / clothing at all?
The Silver Age Superboy's costume would have been much more appropriate for someone with a lesser power set: repels energy attacks, impact-absorbent, near-infinitely extensible...
Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

The Silver Age Superboy's costume would have been much more appropriate for someone with a lesser power set: repels energy attacks, impact-absorbent, near-infinitely extensible... Indeed, a normal human wearing that costume (and some sort of hood/mask made of the same material) would be pretty decent as a non-powered hero! He wouldn't be all flying super-strong heat-vision-y, but he'd still be better protected that someone wearing Kevlar, and therefore darn effective against normal people, or even thugs with small arms. Then again, it would sure change the iconic brand and wholesome family-friendly vibe of Superman if he pulled a Dr. Manhattan and started wearing less and less, since he's really got no use for protective attire, and he *is* supposed to be solar powered (despite the 'solar powered' thing only seeming to result in weensy outfits for hot Tamaraneans, and rarely Kryptonians or Daxamites)... Then again, with some portrayals of Kryptonian attire (such as John Byrne's, in his Man of Steel run), Superman is already dressed like a stripper, compared to his super-prudish people!

Why would Superboy, Supergirl, Mon-El, or Laurel Gand need any costume / clothing at all? Drugstores refused to stock Legion of Super Naturists.

Same reason our shapeshifters take forms that look like they have costumes, huh?
So... Sensor the snake is technically naked, too. Yikes! At least Gates wears a hoodie.

Am I sensing a trend?
Are we all saying that, when the Legion eventually returns, it be renamed as the "Legion of Nude Superheroes"?

DC stands for Discarded Clothing.

Every time Quislet uses his powers, he's all nude and stuff.
Wildfire is also pops out of his containment suit faster than you can say 'Holy wardrobe malfunction, Batman!'
Those degenerate energy beings! Shame!
And while it's been noted that Chameleon Boy may or may not be walking around totally naked (but for a Flight Ring) all the time, it's not been brought up that Yera is probably doing the same thing, which must drive Gim to distraction, since, even if she *looks* fully dressed, he knows that she's parading around totally naked.

Those degenerate energy beings! Shame! This was actually something mentioned in Stormwatch concerning their energy beings. One of which is "excited" by certain frequencies. Mechanical suits, mechanical women. An unintentional trend with Dawnstar?

For an example that has nothing to do with showing skin, I'll point to Luornu having a costume which splits into different colors when she splits. If she wears such a costume, that means she is no longer able to split while pretending she hasn't (or the reverse), which has come in useful in the past.

Agree completely. I mean... it was kind of cool idea in the original story that it was introduced, but it never should have been kept past that story as standard aspect of the character.

Y'know, now that you mention it I would be hard pressed to think of any other character whose costume/uniform actually decreased their effectiveness as much as Lu's purple/orange split thing. Didn't any of the creators back then notice that????
First comic books ever bought: A DC four-for-47-cents grab bag that included Adventure #331. The rest is history.

I think they were just focused on trying expand on Lu's character by having multiple personalities. That was an easy way of letting the reader know which personality was which I guess.
Not terribly useful for the Legi0on though.

I prefer her not having multiple personalities, since that's already been done, and better, with Madrox (who had his own mini-series and hundreds of issues of development with a much smaller team to work with that notion).
Plus, with one overriding intellect shared among multiple bodies, there's potential for a lot of spin-off utility there, as she might be able to communicate among herself, not really telepathically, but because she is literally one mind in many bodies, allowing one of Lu to be at the Academy, and one at the Legion HQ, and it doesn't matter at all if Tharok shuts down the Quark relays (or the Rings aren't working in the 21st century, or the Dominators have rigged the Flight Rings to explode, or whatever lame ripoff plot recycles the 'flights no worky' situation this week), because Lu can relay messages between herselves.
I'd kind of like that, and it would create some interesting potential for different teams of Legionnaires to each have 'their own Lu' for communications purposes, since even Flight Rings have range and lightspeed limitations, while Lu is always in contact with herself in real time at any range...
Anywho, tangent, most illogical costume;
The 'upgrade' to Projectra's Sensor Girl costume that changed the mask and included a royal crown (and boob window). The whole *point* of her Sensor Girl incarnation (and mask, and fake blonde hair) was A) to fake out the readers and keep the mystery of whether she was Supergirl alive and B) to fake out the villains and not let them immediately know that 'Sensor Girl' was just 'Creates Harmless Fake Illusions Lass.'
Messing with the mask (and adding a crown!) just completely destroys that entire *logical* premise! Grr!

Yeah, I think it was basically that she was written out of the series not long after the costume was introduced (interestingly, in a story that they had to get around the split costume problem so that she wouldn't know she was separated), then by the time you had a creative team that was featuring her as a regular member (in the SW6 team), the colors became a way of emphasizing the whole split personality idea that they introduced (and was carried over into the reboot).

There's the Timberwolf costume on the left, a sleek outfit that allows him to maximise his athletic and acrobatic superpowers. Then there's the Timberwolf costume on the right, that allows him to look like road kill, and that gets in the way of his athletic and acrobatic skills. ![[Linked Image]](http://i44.tinypic.com/mkdszs.jpg)

Shikari's original outfit (a dress with slits up to her pelvis) was pretty bad for a superhero. Granted, she was wearing her normal Kwai clothes (and she switched to a much more practical spandex bodysuit after), but even in her normal Kwai life wouldn't that dress have made it harder for her to chase comets and stuff?

Saturn Girl's pink bathing suit was beautiful, but was a poor fit for Imra's style and personality. BUT it was the most logical and strategized costume in Legion history. That suit was a husband-nabber. She wore it, what, a few months story-wise before her wedding? And a few months after before returning to her more utliltarian, Imra-like uniform. Again, story-time, not reader's time.
The Rokky Horror was similarly revelatory when considered in light of Night Girl's concurrent costume. That couple was *not* vanilla! Hers was highly illogical for a super-heroine with her particular weakness, as has been mentioned. But they were fun to look at and set a certain tone, which I wish any future Legon storytelling would utilize, if not replicate.
