If it were me writing, I'd pick up after Magic Wars, treating the 5YL Legion as a "possible Legion" ala the "Adult Legion" from the 60s. I think it would be easiest, and have the most commerical potential, provided the title were launched alongside the current Legion rather than as a replacement for it.

And getting them out of the Magic Wars costumes and into something more classic is easily done as well. Just have Sensor Girl leave Brin in charge for an issue or two...

Ooh, and I have the grooviest idea for a story featuring Jeckie, Nura, and Mysa and their quest to stabilize magic in the galaxy after the destruction of Zerox!

That would be my dream series!

And I think starting at the end of Magic Wars would work the best, with the TMK future as a possible one a la the Adventure Adult Legion. I think this could work somehow, Superboy and all...

Hmm... I wonder if pitting the Legion against an army of super-powered Murrans in our fist major arc would be too confusing?

Bah! Real Legion fans look forward to complicated, multi-character extravaganzas! In fact, I'll have to include a few mistakes when I render the costumes, just so there are some details for the readers to ponder and explain amongst themselves.

Thanks, Crawly! I read the story. Boy, there was lots of material there for Cobie's interpersonal relationships threads.

The Murrans were quite easy to defeat once the Legion's schemes came through!

I have to agree with all of you about picking up after the Magic Wars. Get rid of the Magic War costumes though maybe keep some similiar (Sensor Girl for instance I loved).

I would tell the story of Black Dawn BUT different than before so we see where this alternates from v4. In other words Wildfire doesn't "die". Also would have a Dominators story to show the Legion drive them out of EarthGov. smile

Jim Lee we know has said WOULD do this. He is being involved in the All Star line already. I personally loved Jim Lee's costumes in Wizard.

And reboots and all...the classic Legion WOULD sell like hotcakes. The brought Hal Jordan back...why not.

I'm on a thread-ressurecting mood today. Seems appropiate for the first day of the year.

The major challenges to re-instating the preboot Legion are:

a) Deciding whether you want the Legion to conform to the rest of current DCU continuity;

b) Deciding which version of the preboot Legion you want to use as your baseline continuity (pre-Crisis with Superboy from the Legion's past; post-Crisis Legion with Pocket Universe Superboy; Glorithverse with Valor taking Superboy's place;

c) Deciding at what point in Legion history you want to pick up telling new stories (e.g. after the Magic Wars; after End of an Era).
Agreed. Personally, I'd say no; Glorithverse; and after LSH vol.4 #50, with both teams of Legionnaires. I'd also like DC to release a monthly manga-sized anthology with stories from throught the Legion's history, with all the 'boots represented within, and who's who pages sorting out the what's what.

Man, I miss almost everyone in that picture Sketch Lad posted up.

I never liked Superboy as part of the Legion as a kid, and always longed for the issues where he had minimal 'screentime.' I feel the same way about Supergirl these days. (Paradoxically, I liked Conner. C'est la vie.)

Gotta admit, *some* changes do appeal to me.

Brainy with wires and stuff on his head has grown on me.

Mon-El in a different costume, definitely.

I prefer Lyle to Jacques. Donno why.

As for Dawnstar, as someone who grew up on a reservation and winces at stereotypes, I like Shikari better.

For the characters that showed up *after* my glory days, I'm cool with Kid Quantum II and Shikari. Other than that, I can live without Gates and Gear and Thunder and XS and Kinetix and all the others I've never actually seen.

At this point, I want to see some glorious amalgamation, 'rebooting' the old Dream Girl to have some of the sass and combat-savvy of the WaK interpretation (while retaining the attitude that made her sparkle back in the day), while pulling others, like Cham, back into the intelligent and useful character he used to be and not the impotent drama-queen he's become.

I'd want to pick up right after the LSV attack on Orando / death of Karate Kid / Timber Wolf's visit to Lythyl / Universo four-parter in the Baxter run. Soon after that, it all started to go pear-shaped, it seemed, and I'd love to have seen it continue in that vein for longer.

I hated that Karate Kid, one of my favorites, died, but it served the story and was powerful, so I was willing to accept it. Seeing a version of KK in the WaK continuity feels wrong to me. He's not some Jean Grey whack-a-mole. His death was supposed to have *meant* something, and led to Projectra becoming Sensor, Brin becoming rich and with a hint of legacy with the introduction of Myg...

I always loved Dawnstar, but can see the seterotype concerns. Is there anyway to revamp the character to be less stereotypical, I wonder, like TMK did for Troy? I like Shakari, too, but she hasn't been gone as long.

I miss Jacques. I like Lyle (Pre and Re, anyway, if not Three), but if we can't have both, I'd let Lyle take a vacation for a while.

I'm not much of a Superboy fan, although Connor was preferable to young Kal. Supergirl I think worked best during the Levitz/Giffen run - an occassional member with strong ties to the LSH's past, but not one too dominant.

Many characters, I like various versions of. But Mon needs full pants, not little blue/black panties that look just plain ridiculous.

Hmmm... we never got around to creating that All Star Legion book, did we EDE?

Oh well....

I'd still love to see an ultimate/best-of/all-star Legion story/series. I mean, I know I don't need an explanation for any time anomolies/inconsistencies, etc.

Call it "magic!"

I much prefer the version we have been left with than any rebooted version. While the book isn't with us, it's been left in a very good place for someone to come in.

Before I'd like to see it back, I'd worry a lot about their ability to do a decent job with it, considering the quality of a number of DCNu titles. But they did give Levitz a fairish shot at it. Possibly someone with stronger editorial muscles was needed. I'd also like them to take a long, hard look at page count for certain books.

As for the actual question, I'd have kept everything up until Zero Hour in there. I'm not terribly happy with all of it. But some of the Legion's best moments were in that run. Also for me it's as clean a cutting off points as the end of the Magic Wars.

A further option would be to consider that the post zero hour team folds back in time to run parallel with the original Legion run. You would then pick and choose which moments happened form both. Alternatively, you could make the key moments of the post zero hour reboot part of the real Legion's continuing adventures.

An example: James Cullen had joined the Legionnaires before Zero Hour. However, he is killed in the mission against Tangle Web.

Then the foes of the DnA run can be used. That's the option I prefer.

However, it would probably mean that Gim Allon, Dirk Morgna, Jan Arrah, James Cullen and Candi Le Park are pushing up daisies. At least to start with.

We begin perhaps a year on from the White Event that left a single group of Legionnaires on the barren Pocket Earth.

I didn't read enough Threeboot to really get a feel for how it would fit. Perhaps it deosn't beyond a few "Eat it Granddad" comments and story lines.

Arachne was a prophet. God, I miss her.

I say just let the preboot Legion REST. IN. PEACE! I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only continuity I'd be remotely interested in seeing re-activated is the postboot Legion right at the end of Legion Worlds.

But not including the Legion? Was that such a bad run (final Darkeid thing aside)
