Ok - I didn't mean to annoy anyone.
It's just that I've never met a hardcore fan of the Adventure era who is under 40! I mean, people are usually fans of the era when they first started reading it aren't they? That's why I like the Levitz era the best.

Todd, I don't want to be insulting b/c I have recently in much the same situation. I agree that a young reader (10 to 16) can enjoy the same thing as an older fan but for the most part if we look at music, films, and other stuff it is not the case. Waid is a writer that has forced old things in the past. Sharon Carter in Captain America. Birthright, etc. I've been a fan since 1983 that is a long time as well. Having a creator that is a huge fan of the Adventure era who has forced things in the past "just b/c" is scary. I think Waid is an excellent writer though and hope for the best. I'm not in the X-Men or all the hip stuff of modern day but I am also not into relics. The modern codenames were long overdue IMO and reverting to them is a step backwards but I won't draw lines in the sand or insult those who like them. Eryk, Batman has used the same status quo for many many years but compare the Batman of 1958 or 1968 to today? Was it Engleheart who used a more serious Batman? If we see a Batman graphic novel where he battles aliens and falls in love with a princess much like the old days will it sell? I agree with Comet King and it is frustrating b/c if we call the Adventure series ancient we get blamed of loving violent hip comics? I hate X-men. I think Authority is the most overrated comic ever. I like superheroes and would prefer to read them as if written today not 30 years ago. I am sorry. is that so wrong? Jorge

I started with the COCKRUM/GRELL issues (which had generous reprints of the ADVENTURE eras throughout- something DC should start doing again, IMO-- reprint *all* eras of their past alongside new material), but I'd count the LEVITZ second run as my favorite, too.
There *are* young Adventure fans out there... through probably not a huge number.
Just don't assume based on age-- you'll come up wrong quite often. And don't forget, with every year you read comics, you're closer and closer to that 'older reader' demo, yourself...

Just want to show up as an Adventure Era fan...and I'm barely turning 20 next month.
I love that era, as I do most others in Legion lore, because of what they've added to the mythos and the different styles of fun one can find.
Characterization and family breathed life into Levitz's era, IMO, while the Adventure era was fun in its campy way and founded intriguing concepts sometimes still used to this day...such as flight rings and many of the main Legionnaires and villains themselves.
Who knows? Perhaps I'm a sucker for the sometimes 'sillier' concepts in comic books. I'm having more fun in this Titans crossover learning about the happenings of the 'groovy' 70s team pre-Raven/Starfire/etc. than I am about the latest series with the YJ carry-overs. There's nothing wrong with them, I just don't find them as initially intriguing as other points in Titans time.

I'm 43 and I started reading regularly when I met my now husband, during the much maligned 5YG - I still think this was the most revolutionary series I've read of any comic. I loved the 9 panel grid, loved the characterisation and the intelligent stories. Well, up until the Legionnaires were introduced - they sucked the big one IMO.
I've read both Alans and Sonnies collections since so have probably read everything after about '65 and quite a few of the early stories too. Still hanker over intelligent tight plots and people with depth. I hated hated hated the last reboot. I'm looking forward to this one though as I was getting bored the DnA.
Legion Worlds NINE - wait, there's even more ongoing amazing adventures? Yup, and you'll only find them in the Bits o' Legionnaire Business Forum.

heh, as long as you realize the Titans are still around today due to Raven, Cyborg, Starfire not Bumblebee. And I also have been having fun learning old Titans info. I know truly know who Herald is. Though I hope I never have to read Duela Dent?! Jorge

First of all, how many 10-16 year old readers of the Legion are there? I hope there are more than I'd guess... If you go by 'top of the charts' movies, TV shows and music-- there are people of *all* ages that make up those numbers. True, you aren't going to find that many people in the upper age brackets into rap or Lindsay Lohan movies... but they *do* exist. The Legion has primarily been a niche sort of book... the diversity of the readers in that niche is one of the best things about it. Originally posted by Ultra Cyborg:

I don't want to lose Gates, a living Lyle, the deeper Persuader, Wildfire, Dawnstar, many elements from many eras of the team. But I still say we don't know that they're not going to be in the new book. Yet. Originally posted by Ultra Cyborg:

I don't particularly favor the Lad/Lass names for all the Legionnaires (though I do think a few should always remain), and if I had a vote... I'd probably vote for the modern codenames in most cases. But the writer and artist have said that there's a *reason* for the names... I'm curious to see what that reason will be. (Gang wars? The 'Boys' vs. the 'Girls' vs. the 'Lads' vs. the 'Lasses' vs. the 'Royal Court-- Kings, Princesses, Queens, Princes...) Originally posted by Ultra Cyborg:

I haven't made or read posts blaming anyone about loving violent hip comics. I liked the Authority (somewhat) and think it was as over-the-top silly as anything in the Silver Age. So are the X-Men. Jorge The writer has said that that is his aim. I don't yet see how the 'lad-lass' names will play into that, but I'm curious to see it. I don't want to read relics either (unless I'm buying an Archive). I'm hardly a representative of 'older' readers... in fact I don't think of myself as one. Though I guess I am. I just think it's wrong to lump *any* group of people together and think they all have the same opinions and preferences. Todd

I thought I was a complete loner in this. I haven't met anyone agreed. Thanks, Mrs. CB! When the 5 Year Gap first came out, I picked up Legion automatically and didn't especially enjoy it. When I reread the Legion 10 years later, I was surprised at just how good the first portion of it was. REALLY ahead of its time.

i'm 32 and i've been reading / collecting the LEGION since the start of the 80's, when KEITH GEFFEN came on board, and i haven't stopped since !!!
i've actually enjoyed every version of the team, from this moment on !!!
i'm still really excited to see what happens in this new series, although i am a little concerned with what will happen with the last 10 years or so of stories ???
Matthew.

I'm old enough to know better, and young enough not to care.
My favorite Legion period was the Sprouse Legionnaires/Immonen Legion run, although I'm pretty fond of a number of other eras as well.

I'm 39 and have been reading the Legion since 1980 (about age 14...not quite 15). I loved the Giffen/Levitz era, but I'm a total "everything Legion" fan. Basically that means I've been putting up with all of the reboot crap for a lot of years. Why?, sometimes I just don't know. I guess the industry knows that loyal fans like me will keep coming back no matter what, and therefore they don't need to cater to me. But, I won't go down this ("DC has no respect for loyal fans") route again. All I can do is to continue to hope for the best.
Long Live the Legion!!!
