That's funny, Dev. Believe it or not, I was sort of thinking the same thing - especially while I was in that gift shop, considering picking up a Tigers cap. Not because I'm any great baseball fan... but rather for the "Magnum P.I." kitsch factor. smile

So, my summer-long "toothpick" project continued on this past weekend with a couple of "local" day-trips. (Funny how your definition of "local" tends to expand the more miles you get underneath you).

First up on Saturday was a trip to the wilds of Connecticut to visit someone claiming he was Poverty Lad. I say this - at the risk of shattering his reputation - because the fellow whose apartment I hung out at and went out to lunch with... didn't make a single dirty double-entendre!

Pov is just about the sweetest and most open Legion Worlder you're likely to meet. Right from the get-go we had a great rapport (it's that shared Mid-Atlantic temperament, I tell ya). We chilled for a bit at his casa - tastefully decorated with Marvin the Martian regalia - as he showed me his pics from his previous LW get-togethers (including one of my personal LW hero, the late Yellow Kid). We then headed down into town for lunch at this great little Greek restaurant where "Truckers" are welcome (at least I'm assuming that's what the sign said... from the pic I posted in the 'Toothpicks" thread, you can see I was at a bad angle. wink )

On Sunday, I finally hooked up with lil' Rhino (and a surprise guest... well, for Rhino, that is) after an insane battle with traffic in NYC. I had been planning to pop into Rhino's bar for a while now, but we were never able to sync our schedules. Finally - this Sunday - the stars aligned as I was tasked to chauffeur my wife and her friends to a belly-dancing seminar in NYC (whole other story... don't ask). In planning it, that's when inspiration struck. I knew that Rhino had been wanting to meet Sarcasm Kid for years, but the two had never crossed paths. On the sly, I contacted Sarky and told him he should totally join us for a drink (but not to tell Rhino). Having never met another Legion Worlder in person, I knew it was a bit of a leap of faith for him, but - to his credit - Sarky decided to gamble on us. My little plan underway, I dropped off my wife and headed to the bar.

That's when it all fell apart.

Idiot that I am, I typed in the wrong address into my GPS and wound up on the completely opposite side of the city... in the middle of construction and in bumper to bumper gridlock. As I watched the minutes tick away I envisioned the worst. What if Sarky showed up and - not seeing me - decided I blew it off? What if I were stuck here for hours, and Rhino got off shift? ARRRGGH!

Thankfully, though, all my worry was for naught. I was finally able to punch through and get to the bar (an hour late) only to find the two of them chatting away together like they were old friends. It was really an awesome scene and - honestly - even if the entirety of the "Toothpicks" project had fallen through, that one moment made it all worthwhile for me. nod

So - now safely armed with one of Rhino's specialty martinis (made to perfection, thank you) - I was able to kick back for a bit and just BS with the pair about comics, travel, our shared NY heritage, our adoration of Michael Lash, and everything else under the sun (including Sarky doing his pitch-perfect impression of Yvonne Craig) that could be packed into the timeline abbreviated by my navigatory mishaps. Ah, well... all that means is that a follow-up trip is now mandatory!

Got to have an impromptu (okay, so planned yesterday) lunch with Suddenly Seymour, and Blockade Boy. Good times.

Indeed! And I'm glad that lady said something so we didn't spoil "Wolverine" for her. I was in a similar situation with the last "Harry Potter" book at my car shop of all places (I was reading it while waiting for my car to get worked on) and was able to avoid spoilers with a quick "I'm still reading it, please stop."

Suddenly Seymour's missing, stuff from his fridge, some pie tins and an autographed Moy drawing. Lol, letting someone from my neighborhood into the house...

Shhhh, just our little secret.

For dinner I had some HUGE blackberries, half a half of lemon surprise cake, some sweet potato cheese cake, half a sea salt and chocolate chip cookie (one of the best $1 I ever spent) and mac and cheese topped with bacon, bacon, bacon, tomato and chives, all curiosity of Day-twa, Michigan.

Oh yeah, and I learned to put a comma after the word "Bitch" when it's being used as a hotophonic or something like dat.
