Less than 6 months from now on July 4th, Legion World will be marking it's 10th year of existence.
Just a few months before that fateful day, DC Comics closed their UBB.Classic based message boards (the birthplace and home of the Legion of Message Board Posters) in favor of their WB-created message board software (now even that is gone). Due to an almost universal-hatred of the new software, the group made an Exodus to Rob's Boards (Rob was the moderator at the DCMBs) and for a short time took over the place. But the fun there was short-lived and the group found themselves looking for a permanent home to call their own.
While the gang was trying out the boards at the Jolly Rogers Studio site (Tony Harris and Tom Feister were the Legion's cover artists at the time), I (with the help of Scott [Lightning Lad]) stayed up for hours, several days straight staring at my old, slow desktop computer here in San Diego uploading and customizing a UBB.Classic board at this new site - LEGIONWORLD.NET (couldn't get legionworld.com until years later...now it links to here as well).
Here we are over 760,000 posts...several web-hosts...several trials and tribulations...the addition and loss of so many members...and the move to this new software later. It seems like only yesterday sometimes.
To help celebrate, you are all cordially invited to join me and hopefully several others from the board at San Diego this year. Although the event and most of the focus will be at Legion World's fan table at the San Diego Comic-Con, July 17-21, there will be a birthday cake party and get together's during and after the Con. Please check this thread, a more-focused continuation of this
topic, and the page linked below to get more information as the countdown begins!
Legion World will be celebrating it's 10th year anniversary in
San Diego this summer! Coinciding with
Comic-Con, it will be a week long event with activities both in and outside of the
San Diego Convention Center.
Your presence is respectfully requested. Admission to the Con is not required. San Diego has a lot to offer and downtown is filled with comic madness during this time. Members who do have tickets to the Con can use and hang out at the Legion World Fan Table (MZ-09)!
Please keep checking
this page for updates and more information!
