Well, someone just posted the gatefold cover on the Bits of Legionnaire Business FB page. It looks like: The Emerald Empress kills Mon-El. There's a pic of her blasting off his arm while he lies burned and shredded under the eye. Also, the cover art is really bad.

The Empress looks like she needs a session with the slimming-ray.
Next time we have a DC/Marvel crossover, I want it to take place in the Hostessverse

Okay. One was expected. Two was suspicious. THREE IS GOING TOO FAR.

I seem to recall someone who read the "Mask Man" story when it first came out saying something like that the first death in that story, coming on the heels of Lightning Lad's death a few issues earlier, seemed really dramatic, and the second death in that story made it seem like they were upping the ante over the previous killing of a single Legionnaire. By the time you got to the third death, however, it was pretty obvious that there was some sort of fake-out going on.
On one hand, I kind of feel like that with this story. On the other hand, my overall lack of faith in DC is almost enough to believe that the mass killings of Legionnaires will stick. Which I'm kind of more sad about than the deaths themselves.

Truthfully, i'm so put off by all of it that I don't even CARE if it's a fake out or not. It's all so STUPID and GRATUITOUS. *throws hands up and flails uselessly*

Well, they're only clones. Time for the SW6 batch to toddle onto the scene.

So DC saddles the book with atrocious art then eliminates members horrifically culminating in the demise of arguably the most popular character, and this is intended to do what exactly? If the goal is to alienate the fan base so completely that the inevitable cancellation is, if not welcome relief, then a tearless farewell, my congratulations; this story arc has done its job. At least my collection is as old as I am, so liberation from storage is the next order of business for this long time, saddened reader.

On the plus side, I think issue #20 has Francis Portela, so at the very least the next issue will LOOK nice. EVEN IF THE STORY IS UTTER SHITE AT THIS POINT.

"If you're wondering how DC don't go bust / And other business facts / Then repeat to yourself 'It's not the real Legion, / I should really just relax.'" That picture gives me such a happy feeling. This is all just a bad dream that DC has concocted to tarnish my memories. I WILL NOT LET THEM.

What did that chump ever do - get lost, poison himself and nearly drop dead. M'Onel helped the New Gods, saved people across space and founded colonies which would endure for a thousand years. He laughs in the guy who can't even spell his codename's face

My guess is it had to be redone to fit in with the gatefold theme DC has going this month.

Jesus, I wasn't a huge fan of the Giffen cover, but it's about a MILLION times better than THIS one.
DC, WHY YOU SO LAME?!

My guess is it had to be redone to fit in with the gatefold theme DC has going this month. Nope, the original looks like it was set up to reveal the other four and Something else else Bad they were doing on the right half. This isn't even the only one to get redrawn (Red Hood, Action Comics, All-Star Western and Animal Man have all been changed, off the top of my head). What immediately leaps out is that the Emerald Empress design has been heavily revised on the new cover - only the colours remain, all the details are different, including the hair - presumably reflecting what Kolins & Johnson are now drawing inside. Possibly also, with Giffen leaving, the story inside has been changed (at DC? NEVER!) and whatever the original reveal was no longer happens inside the issue [could have been shifted an issue, or nuked altogether].

I think Sarya's Kirbyesque costume in the preview at least looks a lot better than the Giffen one on the old cover, so there's that at least.

OK, so I just read it:
Mon-el doesn't die (yet), but he does kind of stupidly get beat down by the Empress and loses an arm for it. The entire fight consists of Empress blasting him, he amazingly gets back up, charges her head on, she blasts him again. Rinse, Repeat. Great strategy there Mon. Eventually the cruiser shows up and Brainy and Jan contain her with Inerton/Force Field and they get Mon-el to the cruiser and try to keep him alive.
Tharok and Persuader gloat wherever they are, before Tharok sends Persuader to Earth.
Meanwhile Tinya continues gunning for the title of worst leader ever. Not only does the rest of her team apparently get squashed (I suspect Jascques' teleportation powers are back), she falls apart and has an awful "let me die too" tear-fest. Horrible characterization.
I've really given Paul a a lot of slack and defended him from time to time, but this is just awful, awful stuff.

Okay everybody, raise your hand if you feel another Threeboot #50 scenario coming on? At this point, I actually miss the threeboot Legion... Wow! I never thought that I would say/write those words. However, my favorite, the Zero-Hour Legion REALLY needs to make a comeback.

However, my favorite, the Zero-Hour Legion REALLY needs to make a comeback. PFFT! OH WOW. We're really hitting the bottom of the barrel here, aren't we? And you know, as much as I love the ZH Legion, as much nostalgia as I have for them, as much as I wish I could see them again: I couldn't bear the thought of them coming back to DC while such idiots are running it. I couldn't stand it. Because I know that it would never do justice to my favorite characters and I'd have to see them be mangled beyond all recognition like the "original" Legion has. At this point...i'm ready for DC to retire the Legion until better editorial comes along or until someone of worth can write them.

Seems like the "things fall apart" story of DC is way more interesting than this one.
