Hey guys!

Right, so i'm starting to go further back in my Legion collecting and i've come across something a little confusing. You guys can help though, i'm sure.

Why, when the title changed over to "Tales of the Legion" were some of the stories also reprinted as "Legion of Superheroes" volume #3 after issue 325? They were the same stories, right? They seem to be. Was there a specific reason for this? Did the volume #3 issues come out later?

It's actually kind of fun collecting these older issues. Granted, i'd still like to buy the archive editions, but having all the singles is very satisfying, don't you think?

Anyway, thanks for the help!

That was the way DC planned it that after #325 "Tales" would begin reprinting the stories from the deluxe format of v. 3 one year after they were first published. I stopped collecting "Tales" when that title went to reprints. The previous 12 issues were new stories and it was a lot of fun getting two new Legion stories every month for that one year.

The reason for it was that "Legion of Super-Heroes" was only available to the Direct Market (i.e. Comic Book Stores), so those of us who didn't have comic shops in our area and bought off the Newsstand had to settle for getting the reprints a year later in Tales. I collected Tales all the way to the end, and then I was basically done with Legion until the reboot, as by the time we got a Comic shop, there was just too much of a gap to catch up.

Is there really even a "newsstand" version of comics anymore? These days it seems you either buy it from the comic shop or not at all.

So Tales came out AFTER. Okay, I had it reversed then. Well, being an anal collector like I am, I'll still have to have both. XD If for nothing else than they have different covers.

I actually subscribed to both the deluxe Legion and Tales back then. That is one thing I miss nowadays is that you can't get the Legion by subscription. I hate the over 100 mile drive I have to make each month to pick up my Legion comics at the nearest comic shop.

Leather Wolf, you should ask that comics shop if they can provide a subscription service. Some comic shops do that. You'll get your comics a week or two later than you otherwise would, but at least you won't have to travel so far.

There is to a very limited degree, and these are mainly in airports, train stations, some gas stations / 7-11's. The vast majority of sales of Archie comics happens on the newstand. Superman and Batman comics also do very well, as do many Marvels (especially Spidey / X-related / Avengers-related).

Beyond that, most comics don't sell on the newstand. I believe the Walking Dead sells well but not all places will carry it.
