I'd considered that CMK may have been in the DRC itself, Kent, but then (learning from my mistake with South Africa) decided to explore this avenue first because ofthe wording of previous questions

I'm going to throw out this hint to sort of get you back on track: when I said I was in Africa, I was speaking of a place that could very comfortably be geographically considered Africa. The South Atlantic islands that you've been guessing since you correctly hit on "overseas territory of a country located primarily in Europe" are something of a stretch to be called "Africa." In addition, the rules of the game are that the place must be populated, which wasn't true of Bouvet Island and is someone arguable re: South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. The place I am has a genuine native population.

Sadly though, the lists I'm looking at don't have any more territories that fit all the criteria (located in Africa, overseas territory, south of the western-most point of the DR Congo). It couldn't possibly be the Azores, Madeira or the Canary Islands...

I am indeed in a territory of France - a country with an Atlantic Ocean coast (as per that question) - but the African territory in question is not in the Atlantic.
