The second time she won a contest devised by Chameleon Boy's pet! And there's speculation that she rigged that one as well! Regarding Validus, haven't we seen instances in the past of him being calmed by an image of himself, or a giant rattle, or somesuch? I agree the clue for Reep was seeing how Validus continued to rage even after faced with something that should have given him pause. The image faded simply because Reep no longer believed in the illusion. That also helps explain how Mon was fooled. He saw Validus because he believed that's what he saw.
It seems likely that faux Validus was an illusion created by the Eye. What's more, if my leading WTF cover theory of Brainy being the new Tharok does not hold, it's also possible Jekkie could be the new Emperess. The scene was eerily reminiscent of Flynt Broji's first apearrance. Having the Legion's Number One Fan turn on them would qualify as a WTF moment, but only longtime readers would recognize it as such...

Finally got a chance to read this issue today...my hatred of Kolins' art is back in full force! Really really dislike the way he draws Cham in particular. The more inhuman look worked well for threeboot Cham who behaved very strangely, but it just grates on this version.
Speaking of Cham, I am also not a fan of Vi's constant sniping at him these past couple of issues...or her excessively bitchy demeanour in general. I wish I could feel safe in thinking it's the result of her contact with the Emerald Eye a while ago, but honestly I don't credit Levitz with that kind of subtlety.
I like that Cham was the one to see through the illusory Validus, just as Tinya was the one to see through the fake Persuader's axe...but it's two incidents in a row where the hero just magically moves the plot along with no explanation as to how they did it. The annoying part is that it would only take a line of dialogue; maybe Tinya's Bgtzl senses are capable of detecting an object's approximate density. Maybe the axe didn't cast the correct shadow. Maybe Cham's antennae saw through Validus. Maybe Validus was repeating the same pattern of tantrum over and over, and Cham's deductive skills picked that up. There are any number of explanations, but we didn't get one.
I hate to say it, but I think this Fatal Five storyline is gonna be the decider as to whether I keep buying this series. I love the Legion but I can't justify spending money on it every month when for the past couple of years now Levitz has been producing really mediocre work with improvement only in fits and starts.
To end on something positive...Tinya as leader will hopefully be interesting. I kinda feel sorry for her because I think the Legion are gonna get dragged through the wringer with this upcoming F5 storyline...I just hope it's treated more like "Tinya proves herself in the worst possible circumstances" and not "weak lady falls apart and drags team down with her". But again....I find it really hard to have faith in Levitz these days...

I don't want Jeckie like the new Empress.(I hope that it is the revived Sarya) After the Sneckie-Siren in the Reboot, and the evil Jim Shooter's Projectra in 3boot, and the curret Projectra in Limbo Levitz World, seems to be that always they were ruining the character in all the incarnations. Lately all the female legionnaires are very sluggish (with the exception of Nura and Luornu)
From UK with glamour.

Lots of nice character interaction in this issue. Levitz always puts a nice quiet issue before all hell breaks out.
The most ominous parts, excluding the last page with the quark relay dying, were the Brainy/Harmonia/Glorith scenes. Firstly Harmonias look at Brainy when he said she was most uncommon then Glorith sneaking off when Brainy's measuring device was mysteriously altered. It made me wonder if either Harmonia or Glorith could be the second Echo spy mentioned in Lost and are deliberately snafu-ing Brainys attempts? The other thing about that scene that struck me was the colouring - it was awesome! Although Glorith is black, not another Caucasian.
Nice touches with Sun Boy saying leadership would cut into his playtime and Dreamy saying she was available. Chem;s man crush on Jan continues and it was fun seeing Dragonwing looking bored as if she had heard it all already too many times.Wonder if the random background characters in that opening scene will pop up again?
Unlike Raz (sorry) I like Cham looking all weird and alien, the group needs more obvious non-humans, especially given the background characters being very alien in the majority.
Shady was a bit of a bitch to Mon, have we ever found out why they split up? Though it was good to see Cos and Mon be friends again after the Dominion storyline pitted them against each other.
Also good to see Star Boy back on his feet. He makes an odd choice for Polar Boy to hang around with though somehow I could see it happening.
The little pic of Saturn Girl looking after Comet Queen on Shady's monitor was a nice touch too.
Kolin's art is still a little flat for me though he does draw excellent techno-gubbins.
Looking forward to things taking off next issue.

Once upon a continuity they were members together in the Subs, so I've always thought they'd have a connection from that, but it it's never really been explored.

Thanks EDE, that makes sense - it would be good if we had a few snippets of this post flashpoint nu 52 history to see if that was still canon.
