I believe that's correct.
But I think that FC is also right in that Lyle's scientific skills weren't really focused on. It's sorta like they decided to emphasize Brainy's science skills in part by deemphasizing everyone else's, even the characters who clearly had scientific backgrounds.

Shooter briefly showed Lyle hanging out in the lab with Brainy during the first Mantis Morlo story, but that's the only place I can recall his scientific skills being discussed until after his death.

Incidentally, I don't really think there was much emphasis on him in regards to Espionage during his lifetime either.
His main role during the Adventure Era really came when he was elected leader, when he was really the prototypical "strong leader" type.

That's a good point.
He turned invisible and snuck around a lot, but that isn't the same thing as Espionage.

I like it!
I read # 14. Going to post now then read everyone's comments on the issue.
I felt this was a step in the right direction. Much more enjoyable for me than the last few issues.
Im a DeKraker fan, so I had no problems with the art. In fact, he's even better now than when last I saw him. Developing a bit of a Leonard Kirk/Stuart Immonen thing there. The art styles weren't so different that the issue looked hobbled together. Everything flowed nicely artwise for me.
Great cover.
Nice to have a Cosmic Boy/Brainiac 5-Free issue.
Glad some things happened off-panel (Cos leaving) instead of being dragged out for umpteen issues. Sometimes stuff NEEDS to happen like this, to give the book a sense of momentum. Here's hoping the complete absence of the Dreamy/Brainy subplot means some headway (read: her full recovery) is being made there off-panel.
Awwww, Gim's brother! "Greetings, imps!" indeed. Giant puppy! See, stuff like this I love.
Really enjoyed Garth & Imra's overdue screentime.
Theena's nice.
Enjoyed the Violet/Lyle chat.
Reflecto, eh? Pretty handily defeated by Triplicate Girl, just as Lu was easily able to defeat Nemesis Kid preboot. Love stuff like this.
"....the dark side of fandom." Ummm, what's that supposed to mean? You gots to take the bad with the good, peeps. If Waid is directing this at the Dream Girl fans, then I direct this at him: You don't just (seemingly) kill-off a much-beloved fan-favorite character and not expect to get called out on it. Now get off your ass, please, and have Brainy & Lemnos fix this. Thanks! And I wouldn't mind seeing Reflecto again.
PLeeeeeASE don't tell me everyone's going to go all whacked-out on Garth for allying with Earthgov. Garth needs to take a note frompreboot Rokk and start smackin' folks around. "SHADDUP, you!"
YAY!!! Amanda Conner! Still wanting that all-letters page issue drawn by her, love that this one was continued from last ish. But, Sacre le Teeds! The poor goats. I would have had them gain the powers of the Legionnaires (Dream Goat! Triplicate Goat! Star Goat!) and form a team of their own. Oh, well. At least Shady seemed to enjoy them! Amanda letters pages EVERY MONTH!!
So, overall: much improved. Stuff happened quickly, stuff was resolved.
I still don't think this book is quite "THERE" yet, but at least this is an upward swing instead of the freefall the book was in for me.

Although crowned by the Pope Charlemagne was careful to have his position as Caesar (or Augustus, I can’t remember help me out here Cobie) Approved by the Eastern Roman Empire so that in theory they were both joint rulers of one entity. Your spot-on Darden! And to follow up on everyone's insight, yes, Lyle and Brainy were great friends pre-boot, although it wasn't actually established until after Lyle's death (in real time). In v.3, when visiting Lyle's grave, Brainy tells the Legionnaires how much he misses his old friend and has one of his most human moments after a long period of distance from his fellow Legionnaires (stemming from Supergirl's death and the arrival of Sensor Girl). Oh, and I loved this issue!

I still don't have my subscription copy of #14. If it doesn't get here this week I may have to take steps.

I finally got around to reading this issue and have to confess that I enjoyed it much more than most of the Lemnos arc. I missed Barry's art, but the fill-in artist was very good. I hope we see more of this type of issue in the future.

I did find Violet's entire role in the story to be annoying and stupid though:
Where has she been and why?
Hate her hairdo. Not crazy about the colors of her costume either.
Why on earth were she and the others getting out giant utensils for breakfast? It's not like they could eat off one of those forks, or drink from one of those cups.
The whole punching out Gim's brother was totally uncalled for and way over dramatized, and how the heck does she have the power to punch out someone 10 times her size anyway?
The whole "I like it when people spread rumors about me" thing was just stupid and served to further that overly melodramatic and run-into-the-ground subplot about Lyle and Brainy even yet still a little bit longer.
Earlier in the series, PG says that she stays small because she's shy. Clearly that's not the case. There's nothing shy about this Violet.

I didn't like it because I just hope they don't use that as the lynch-pin to her characterization - that she's got a "little person" complex and needs to have her rep (or whatever) to be big to compensate.

I am late to this party -- surgery and pneumonia will do that -- but I thought this ish, and Atom Girl in particular, were just grand.
-- Delegate Ardeen: This mom rawks! We don't know what kind of relationship she has with Imra, but it's cool to see a Legion mom who defends and supports her child in such a fashion. She's my new favorite Legion 'rent. What's the difference, though, between making the Legion an "arm of Earthgov" versus an arm of the UP?
-- Lightning Lad: Cos would have decided immediately, without consultation, what to do with the UPs offer. Garth takes advice, and in the end acts quickly from his head and his heart to protect his fellow Legionnaires. I think he made the right decision -- the opportunity to put an end to SP harassment is worth it. Besides, agreements are made to be broken. And Garth's speech at Dream Girl's memorial--just great. I haven't liked Lightning Lad so much in years!
-- Saturn Girl: do her feelings about her mother influence her opinion on the UP offer? She seems very pensive, if not downright hesitant, here. Is she less decisive than previous Imra's? That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.
-- Invisible Kid: So, he IS the rat after all, and thought he could use the "fictitious" Atom Girl as a fall guy? Wow, is Lyle behaving like a, well, kid. I'm glad Salu reminded him to be proud of hatching the plan that saved the universe. Seriously, it's good to see our heroes make mistakes, and learn from them.
-- Atom Girl: Man, this violet is a hoot! Hot-headed, ruthless, most protective of her street rep. I like her much better than the reboot's Shy Vi. I LOVED the scene between her and Lyle.
-- Lettercol: Absolutely priceless. Cracks about Cosmic Boy, a classic (goat-meat) spit-take from Karate Kid. Shadow Lass further enhances her reputation as a remorseless warrior and eater. I could not be more thankful that Mark and Barry have decided to a column in this format.
This was a great "after doomsday" type issue, full of the sort of characterization that puts this Legion head and shoulders ahead of many of its predecessors.
...but you don't have a moment where you're sitting there staring at a table full of twenty-five characters with little name signs that say, "Hi, my superpower is confusing you!"
