Well, it's always possible that I won fifteen million dollars (in cash, after taxes) in the California Lottery last night, but I'll put off checking my ticket for another day {g}

I did get a prime-rib dinner from my generous younger brother when we went out this evening. And the restaurant didn't even charge for it -- they were 5 minutes late getting mine to our table, and they refused to charge us for it. Thank you, Norm's (the Southland's premier family dining place, "We Never Close") for saving my bro $10.99. We still left a hefty tip.

Not a package to be seen. No decorations, either, other than our six received Christmas cards and a large red poinsettia in the window. We the minimalist Reed brothers are ... alone again, naturally ... *sigh*

Grey, sounds like your brother still "officially" owes you a Christmas dinner. smile

My family buys presents for the kids and the adults draw names. My Brother got my name and he got me Pirates of the Carribean and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen on DVD. He originally got me Buffy Season 2 on DVD but I already had it so he got me LotR: Two Towers Extended DVD but I had already bought that as well, so...

Regarding Pirates of the Carribean -I've never been a Johnny Depp fan but he is BRILLIANT in this movie.

From Secret Santa at work, I received Linkin Park's Meteora CD.

DVDs really are the male gift item of the 21st century so far, aren't they?

I thought Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle was fun. A little cheesier than the first one (and that's saying something) but I don't watch movies for Oscar potential. I wasn't totally thrilled with Hulk but actually liked it a little more than I expected to. X2 -saw it twice at the theatre and now 3 more times on DVD. I LOVE that movie. Nightcrawler is AWESOME -even if the tattoos are a bit much.

The offer came first, then the non-charge being given by the restaurant. (We asked about that. We feared that if it were a mistake, it would be taken out of the waitress's earnings. Would have been a crappy thing to happen on Christmas day.)

I knew I made a mistake posting in this thread.

Think twice about what you said, please.

Is the gift the emotional impulse, the effort at caring? Or the physical piece of clutter you have to put away? (One advantage of a meal or a movie, both of which we exchange on our birthdays. Nothing beyond the charge slip or the ticket stub.)

Sorry, but I'm a bit of a grouse on this point.

And despite what it sounds like, welcome back in any event, Caleb. Merry Christmas.

Hmmm...

Never mind. My little jokes never seem to work with you. I'm just a jokester and you kind of sit on the serious side of reality.

Thanks for the welcome back though. I do apologize if I unintentionally caused stress. Merry Cristmas to you as well.

Not stress, really. More of the reaction to the holidays holidays holidays holidays frigging HOLIDAYS in general. And I'm sorry for overreacting.

I'm too damn serious, that's been obvious for years. I'm also shocked I've ended up posting 800-something times at this venue.

I think I'd better take a day or two off, myself.

From the relatives I got some kinda fashionable clothes, I guess most of them noticed that I've been paying more attention to my wardrobe recently. And they threw in a whole bunch of books too.

From my parents I got a whole bunch of money and a wonderful December 25. My grandparents threw in a wonderful dinner. My little cousin didn't pester me for once, and that's a bigger Christmas present than you can imagine laugh

From the gals, I got a coin bank, THREE WALLETS (are they trying to tell me something???? smile ), a nice decorative soap dish, some candles, a lucky pendant, a miniature radio, some hair gel and a mirror. Sigh... I don't think I'll ever understand what those girls are thinking about me... But at least they remembered smile Oh, and my best gal friend gave me a nice meaningful letter too.

From the guys, nothing so far, since they spent all their money on girls smile or on themselves laugh Still, we all sent each other Christmas greetings through our cel phones, and that's enough for me.

Secret Santa. OH I HATE THOSE! I mean, a gift a day for an entire week. PLEASE. When I can afford to buy everything I want for everyone in MY family, then, AND ONY THEN, will I consider 7 presents for someone I probably only associate with because I happen to work with them.

Well, lessee, small haul in recent years.

Mom got us a new 27' flatscreen TV. I wasn't aware that I needed a new TV, but she must've gotten a bug about something.

Got a new LL Bean shirt, and an LL Bean gift certificate that I used to buy a couple pair of jungle mocs. Best. Shoes. Ever.

The Fire Dept. Chinese Auction scored me a pair of vice grips. traded the screwdriver set with one of the guys for a couple of trivets Shiela wanted. From the Chinese Auction for Shiela's family I scred a super-hero hot chocolate set. yum.

Sheila and I decided not to excahnge gifts this year. instead, we sent Santa off to Citibank. We are doing the whole Dave ramsey thing trying to pay off all of our debt.

I really like my co-workers and we had 5 small daily ($1 or $2) gifts followed by a final gift of $10-$15. It was more for the fun of it than anything and we had a humongous potluck.

Scott got on eBay sometime at the end of summer and scored my Christmas present, a limited edition mini statue of 'Spike' from Buffy. He is absolutely perfect, down to the last fingernail (which are painted black!) and even the laces on his boots are distinct. Spike will join my collection of limited editions which include a mini statue of The Master, a mini of Buffy, and 18" mega-sexy statues of Buffy and Angel, and a mini statue of Angel. Really want a Willow. Gotta have my witchy-babe, but maybe next Christmas!

Also got a really nicely done DC collector's set of classic Teen Titans figures. Gar (Scott's favorite Titan) is looking very devilishly handsome, and the Starfire figure, whoa! Corriander is breathtakingly sensual and her hair is translucent so with a light behind her it glows. Raven is my girl! She's in white here. Got her in blue last year.

Well I had a nice Christmas too! Besides way too much food and gin on Christmas Eve wink , I woke up to find these gifts:

The Dirty Harry Collection (I'm a big time Clint Eastwood fan)

First Blood Part I

The Maltese Falcon

Spiderman

Books of Magic Part I graphic novel (the stories by Gaiman)

Preacher Parts 2 and 3 Graphic novels

New Jeans, a new necktie, a scarf, pants to lounge in, a fleece jacket from my Girlfriend's mom and a shirt from her

A book on Mary Magdeline, the Holy Grail and the bloodline of Christ (I love that stuff!)

A biography on Audrey Hepburn (who I absolutely adore and have had a crush on since I was little and still do to this day)

And the Abercrombie and Finch cologne

all in all, a good Christmas!
