Best issue I've read all year. Movement on all plot lines, re-introduction of several pre-threeboot elements, nice twists (I was sure the "other presence" that was disctracting Saturn Girl was Dream Girl...good to see the writers pull a switcheroo!). And, of course, genuine Kiston art - accept no substitutes!

Since we all pretty much know where this'll end up, I still think it would have been a cool clue to long-time readers if the "plants" in the Legion were Dynamo Boy, Command Kid, Blackout Boy, Magnetic Kid, Size Lad (perfect name for a Big City traitor), and Nemesis Kid. Newer readers wouldn't get it right away but it would have been a great nod to the Legion's past.

I too thought this was the best issue in a long time:
Barry's back, yay! Triplicate Girl's back from limbo, yay! (though she's STILL wearing black and not her signature purple--Barry, please change this!) Chlorophyl Kid as a plant in the Legion Bwahahahahha! Shadow Kid and Talok VIII! Mon-El!
Minor quibbles:
Why weren't Triplicate Girl, Shady, and Vi included in the roll call?
It seems to me that the Kandorians would be A LOT more deferential to a member of the legendary El family. If all the little Legionnaires from all over the universe are so hot for her, you'd think her own race would put her on a pedestal and not refuse to use a language she understands, label her slow, etc.
Yet again the star players are Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, and Brainiac 5. Didn't we all get sick of them being overused in the last boot?
The cover bore no resemblance to the story yet again.

Definitely the best issue in awhile.
The Kara storyline finally starts to move forward. The "I'm just dreaming this" premise should have been resolved a few issues after her first appearance. Dragging it out just makes her look dumb.
LOVED the clinch between E. Lad and Trip. Hopefully this will be referred to again and not just become an unresolved dangling plotline. Let's have a debate between the three Lus...is this the first time this sort of thing has happened to them? Can 1/3 lust after someone the other 2/3 don't?
Enjoyed the ties to Silver Age Superman Family mythos like Kandor, The Phantom Zone and Mon-el.
Barry's fab art goes without saying.
This is the first issue to feel like the real Legion...one reason being...no adult vs. teen angst.
The poster formerly known as Carggaphile.

I am gonna learn to accept the blue, green, orange skins, etc. When and if WaK decide to give one of them a bigger role I am sure Barry will make them stand out more. For instance the villains/antagonists of the series! I love Barry's SPs and Terror Firma. And I love the villains in this issue as well. Jeyra rocks!(gotta make a micro of her) That did look like Lazon. Crystal Kid? The chick with green energy? I like them. Kandor? So these guys are all Kryptonian but isolated? Sounds like Daxam. The Supergirl/Kandor story I also did like. Her friends "betraying" her IMO is an old Legion tradition. Element Lad and Triplicate Girl? I like it. One of the new things I don't mind is the diffrent love interests. Talok! Grev! Shadow Lass! Vi! Vi and Tasmia were always my two fave girl members. Nice to see them as friends. I always liked Grev and the Talok stuff. Seems like someone is hitting their stride.

Ah, they're finally treating Supergirl like the basket case she is.
Interesting possible development with Brainy.
I'm of two minds on the whole 'easter egg' thing going on with the Polar Boy / Chlorophyll Kid reboots. One, yay, it's nice to see old friends, but two, boo, they *aren't* our old friends, they're just some two-bit faceless goons, and that sort of detracts, IMO, from the much richer characters they have replaced.
Looks like Grev will be yet another member of the Grudge Legion. Eh.
I really liked Ayla in this one. Unlike her team-mates, she actually does exhibit a youthful exuberance, and, in some cases, outrage, over black and white concepts. Brainy and Cos are so adapted into dealing with shades of gray, while Ayla is more, 'no, this is wrong!' While I did enjoy watching the Legion grow up, it was always refreshing to see one of them behave like a young person, and, in this boot, only Lyle, Cham and Ayla have really done this, with the rest actually pretty jaded and / or adult (in many cases acting far less petulant and child-like than the Earthgov leaders, High Seer of Naltor, etc!).

I feel strange admitting this...but it's probably the first time since they shoved her back into DC continuity two years ago that they actually did a story featuring Kara prominantly...that I enjoyed. I definitely preferred the 1986-2004 status quo (Only One Kryptonian) but maybe what helped is that, for the first time, the Legion acted reasonably at the idea of someone claiming to be Superman's cousin from 1000 years ago shows up: take her someplace where the truth can be ferretted out. The place is Rokyn, which is (sigh) the colony founded by the descendants of the (sigh) Kryptonian bottled city of Kandor. Originally posted by jimgallagher: It seems to me that the Kandorians would be A LOT more deferential to a member of the legendary El family. Someone pops up claiming to be the cousin of the greatest hero of all from 1000 years in the past--and everyone just accepts it??? That's the stuff that made me want to burn issue 17...the Rokynians are the first ones since Batman to react to her with the due amount of skepticism. Their first thought is the rational one: "She thinks she's from 1000 years in the past. Clearly insane." I still have to wonder why Superbrittney is an incestuous crack whore in the 21st Century and insufferably perky in the 31st. It helped that Brainiac 5, after a year of obsessing about Dream Girl's corpse, is back to normal (a fairly relative thing in his case) and he gets the best line of the issue: (to Cosmic Boy) "This was your idea but I know I'm going to be blamed for it anyway." And Cos...well, last issue Invisible Kid told him he wasn't really in love with Superbrittney, he was reacting to the zeta radiation that brought her to the 31st Century. Well, Cos sure acts really, deeply regretful and concerned this issue. Hm.

I don't know why I felt compelled to come downstairs and write "this" at 12:15 in the morning, but... I just have to say that the current Legion is so reminiscent of the "multi-plot/subplot" glory days of Levitz and Giffen. There is so much going on that you have to keep a log book of who's coming & going, and that's great!!!... I love "this" Legion!!! I love that Grev has been reintroduced, even if he is Tasmia's Brother and not her Cousin. Although, if memory serves me correctly, I think he was originally introduced back in the 1960's as her Brother as well, and was later rewritten as her Cousin...not compeletly sure about that. In any case, no matter what road his character takes, PLEASE don't kill him off!!! He's one of the great Legion characters that (IMO) was vastly underused. I think he has great potential and should remain around for the duration. The art is unbelievably great, and we couldn't ask for a better artist...one who truly understands what the 31st century SHOULD look like. This creative team really cares about the Legion and you can tell that it's not just a temporary assignment to them...or a stepping stone to something greater. This is truly the 1980's revisited and as close as "us older fans" will get to having the original incarnation of the LSH back.
I'm always exited to look several issues forward in anticipation, and we are always given a taste as to what's coming in the months ahead. Thanks for giving us "our" Legion back guys!!!
Long Live the Legion!!!

Hi Guys Thanks again for welcoming me back so warmly - it's much appreciated! I'm so glad so many of you enjoyed this issue as it's the beginning of a really exciting arc I think, which will tie-up much of all that's gone before into a cohesive whole...we hope We totally agree that lots of the characters need 'fleshing out' and we've planned a lot of that to happen over the next few issues. I know there's still a lot of stuff unasnswered, but I really think a lot of it will be clearer soon Thanks again!

Give them a chance. It's still early. Hence the 'of two minds' thing. I *am* giving them a chance. Have been for 23 issues now, one month shy of *two years,* and I'm still here. I'm so glad so many of you enjoyed this issue as it's the beginning of a really exciting arc I think, which will tie-up much of all that's gone before into a cohesive whole... we hope Looking forward to it. I was glad to see some resolution on the Supergirl thing, and I'm looking to see more on the robot rebellion and Dominator and what's-up-with-Sun-Boy-and-Terror-Firma fronts as well! There was a fair bit of introduction in the first year, establishing that this is not 'our' Legion, with the new (and refreshing!) takes on Phantom Girl and Triplicate Girl and Saturn Girl, etc. but that seems out of the way now, everyone is pretty much 'established' and there seems to be lots of excitement on the horizon.

Some cultures do have an extended view of what a 'brother' is. Extended clan or tribal relationships may mean that they may not have the same parents. Vi's attitude towards enjoying the perks of office makes me wonder how she acts when she's at home on Imsk. If Brainy is a godlike hero there and Vi is seen as his Imskly Vice-Regent, then she might have some really cool perks. Perhaps Cos has admonished her about accepting too many and she wants a sympathetic change in leadership?

If Brainy's a great figure, practically a god, then Vi's got to be something darn close to the Pope of Brainyology...

Why hasn't Brainy been brought up on corpse stealing charges or at least had his head examined?

Any chance we'll see Myg or Nemesis Kid before the end of this arc? Again, two more characters that had great potenetial in past incarnations. Although, Nemesis Kid was given years to develop, but never became more than a thorn in Karate Kid's side. Myg, much like Grev, had attitude and because of that, both characters had the potential to go to the "dark side"...as we saw a GLANCE (only) with Myg during the 5-year gap. Anyway, here's hoping to see some of these characters "return".

Hi everyone At last, Barry is back and Waid seems to be going somewhere with the Legion! Great issue all round and I can't wait for the Supergirl issue to be resolved and, hopefully, either get her into shape or get her to ship out. This ditzy character is hardly what impresses me about Supergirl I love the introduction of all the new old familiar characters and worlds. Thank God, Talok VII is NOT a planet of possums and owls! I agree with one previous poster, though, that the LSV is a re-imagining of the escapees from the Super-Stalag of Space. The guy keeping Light Lass down in Weight Wizard (although in the old continuity, he could only change his own weight) and the plant is really Plant Lad, not Chlorophyll Kid (although, again, in the old continuity he could only transform into plants himself) Or maybe, Waid is putting two and two together Whatever, I have been losing interest in the Legion due to the slow development but this issue has re-instated my faith that the Legion I love is back! Lastly, Mon-El in his classic costume and Name! What more can I ask for? LLL!
