Finally, the Legion starts doing things.

Among the highlights:

- the return of characters from the past Jeyra Entinn, Shadow Kid, and, one must assume, Chlorophyll Kid
- we get some hints about exactly what the deal is with Dream Girl these days
- the Legion gets proactive in the areas of Supergirl and the robot rebellion
- a couple of previously unattached Legionnaires are caught in a romantic embrace
- the story visits a couple of familiar places that we haven't seen yet in the threeboot
- last-page reveal of Mon-El, still in... well, let's assume for now that it's the Phantom Zone (I'm giving this away because we know he's showing up soon anyway, and it's foreshadowed pretty strongly throughout the story. I can't believe anyone liable to read this wouldn't figure it out him- or herself.
- plus: fighting!

More specific spoilers, please!

Does Kitson draw this issue?

Is there a roll call page and if so, who does it feature? smile

What exactly is the deal with Dream Girl? How do they get proactive with Supergirl and the robots? Who is the couple? What places do they visit?

I'm going to leave *some* surprises.

Yes, Barry Kitson draws it.

The roll call page features Supergirl, Cosmic Boy, Element Lad, Saturn Girl, Light Lass and Brainiac 5.

A team of Legionnaires is sent into the underground to find any evidence that the robots are still up to something, and another is sent to take Supergirl... well, not home, exactly, but as close to it as they can manage.

One of the places visited is Talok VII. (Did I get the Roman numerals right, or is it really VIII? I never remember.)

It's VIII, btw. And darn about the roll call page. frown I really need a Karate Kid, Dream Boy, Sun Boy, etc.

This was an amazing issue.

The Legionnaires caught in a lip lock have previously been spotlighted in an issue together. Supergirl does return to Krypton, or rather what's left of it. Also there's confirmation that there are other living Kryptonians in the DCU and that one of them was a Legionnaire for a time. You'd expect that with the appearance of a Phantom Zone projector wouldn't you?

Saturn Girl is weirded out by Brainy who seems to have learned to appreciate knowing the effects before the cause.

Vi tries to get Shady to set her up with Grev and then encourages her to run in the election.

Yeah! Now *that's* what I'm talking about!

I'm really starting to dig this whole LSV arc! And finally the references to Rokyn paid off!

A little annoyed that certain previously heroic characters are coming back as villains, though, but it's good to at least see them after they were neglected for so long!

I don't know if they're going to stay villains, though. Like Terror Firma. This LSV bunch simply doesn't seem all that bad to me. Misguided, maybe.

Great issue! a lot of things start to fall into place and that's good.

I really like to see other legionnaires have some more panel time, and discover more about them.

This issue has a lot of information, a little bit of everything.

But i must have miss those hints about Dream Girl you're talking about, Matthew, because i don't see anything about it.

Brainy tells Cos the alarm is about to ring when the villains attack. This prompts Imra to say B5's gone weird again. He also seems to know Ayla will be mad with him just before he springs his surprise box on Kara.

While the second one could be him putting 1 and 1 together, the alarm thing suggests that Brainy is now precognitive.

Did anyone find it odd that for the first time in they're 30 odd year history of interaction, B5 wasn't fawning all over Supergirl.

Great issue! I hope the naysayers pick it up and enjoy the ride!

Quite a satisfying issue. Even though I didn't care for some of the developments (the liplock, Cos speaking). Seemed pretty brutal to me, what they did to Kara. At least they pinned it on Cos, more reason not to sympathize with him. Brainiac's Dream-Girl moments weren't as grating as they might be. I wish Saturn Girl would show some more independence. Her personality seems to have vanished.

Still, it was nice to see things happening. Plus, not only Bob Cobb, but Bobb Kohan!

It was good seeing Grev back...he was always potentially great, yet underused character!!! I guess the Mallors are sibblings now and not cousins, but it doesn't matter. BTW, the art was excellent!

Bobb Kohan? Where? Oh, that guy. Wasn't that the same cold-projecting guy from the issue where they beat the daylights out of Micro Lad? I had him associated with Polar Boy.

This is more like it! The art was beautiful, and things are starting to move. This is my favorite issue for quite some time, even if I do think that they were a bit harsh with Kara. It'll be interesting to see where all this leads to. And I absolutely LOVED seeing Mon-el again...

Anyone else think that the flying guy who punches Brainy is a re-imagined Lazon?

I think we're getting indications that, despite what Lyle said last issue, Cos does in fact have a thing for Supergirl.

Wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

In fact, it's funny. Here's Rokk, with a giant crush on Kara, and he's so clueless about his emotions that he lets noted schemer Invisible Kid persuade him that he doesn't really feel anything!

This all goes back to my generational analysis of the Legion (which I'm not going to link to *again*). The reason why the Boom generation is always talking about 'getting in touch with their emotions' and stuff is because that was a big thing for them: emotional health wasn't emphasized in the world of their youth the way it has been for those of us born since then, so they have to do it on purpose and make a big deal out of it. And that's true of the Legionnaires as much as it was of the Boom. It may seem silly to us that Rokk would fall for Lyle's okeydoke, but we're used to dealing with our feelings in a way that the Legion isn't (assuming that my take on them matches Waid's, which is not at all a safe assumption. Although certainly the 31st century's resemblance to the stable-yet-bland-and-empty 1950s is intentional).

By the way, my review's up at Legion Abstract; I pretend that a couple of the points I touch on there will be of interest here.

Poor Kara, "betrayed" by her only friends. Did Argo City ever have people riding winged dinosaurs before or were they a figment of her imagination, too? Way to go, Barry.

I guess it makes sense that, of all places in the universe, the PZ projector would be discovered on Kandor/Rokyn. Possible, even, that Superman himself kept it hidden in the Bottle City on purpose. It just struck me that the LSV is stealing a lot of ancient things (altar, museum artifacts), and I wonder if Tarik was after the projector specifically. Mon-El is sure a sight for sore eyes in his SvA duds, even as a phantom. Can't wait for his "real" debut next month.

Jerya seems to have the right stuff to become Saturn Queen's 3boot successor, if given half a chance. In addition to "Plant Kid" and "Freeze Boy", the guy who blindsided B5 reminded me of Fire Lad (too bad the Nura part of Brainy's brain didn't warn him of that!). Can evil Stone Boy and Night Girl types be far behind?

The unexpected embrace could have been a lot worse - I was afraid our friend was going to wind up in Ayla's arms. On the other hand, Lu may be less "together" than she seemed.

The Talok scenes were excellent, including the final-panel nod to the "Thora" story, and went a long way to explain why this Tasmia is so aggressive, proud and "hedonistic". Jealous Grev looks like a prime candidate for Tarik's crew. Nice Tasmia and Salu buddy moments, as well. The two girls have at least one thing in common - they get their kicks clocking other people.

I agree about Cos having deeper feelings for Kara than he admits, but I also think he's the type to latch on to almost any excuse not to fall in love. It took him *years* (and the Sinde disaster date) to accept his feelings towards Lydda. Mr. Romance, he's not.

Used my lunch money to buy the variant cover. Very.hungry.now.

'Chlorophyll Kid' guy needs a haircut - Fuzzy mopheads are so last century! I'm excited to see all the new LSVers (or whatever they're called).

Couldn't find the variant either frown ! How much are people getting them for?

The scene where Jeyra hit Ayla with the mental force and her head bloodied was kinda kewl. Is she telekinetic or does she just order poor Light Lass to squeeze her face and sinuses so much that she crushes her own brain.
