I suppose what it comes down to is restraint and consideration for others. "Everything in moderation". And I certainly don't want to see ANYone leave over our differences. Hell, there are one or two posters I personally can't STAND... but y'know what? For the most part, I ignore them. L*World is a big enough place and a varied enough community where there's room for EVERYbody.

While I usually try to avoid commenting seriously in threads like this one, it strikes me that Gossamer may have accomplished her purpose in posting that poll.

She seems to have intended to "out" this topic for discussion. It worked.

While the unending gay flirting does not usually bother me, it often disrupts serious (and or semi-serious) discussions on threads not originally posted for that purpose.

IMHO, that more than anything else is the true source of Gossamer's (and many other poster's) annoyance.

Having said that, it is relitively easy - even for newbies like myself - to avoid posts which may offend. And the majority of posters on these boards - irregardless of orientation - seem to be:

1. Legion Fans
2. Thoughtfull and Highly Intelligent
3. Willing to consider the feelings of others when posting
4. and, People whom we should be proud to associate ourselves with regardless of superficial differences.

This Poll/Thread should cause all of us to read - and seriously think about - FC's sig line.

Now if only people would just get over this "I don't like you so I'll publically throw dirt at you' nonsense - remember the Greybird/ Reep battles? How futile they were and as much as I'd always always enjoyed Greys posts before that he did go down a bit in my eyes after his post ripping reep apart over spelling of 'Polls'

I have noticed the continual sniping at Icey and I don't like it. Flirting and wrestlin' invites aside (as they are of no more consequence than, say one of Teeds music quotes for instance) Icey has always been a positive voice in our community and I'll support him as such.

As has been said again and again, if you don't like it don't look. I'm quite sure a few folk get p.oed by some of my posts just as a few folk don't push the right buttons for me, which bodes the questions "yeah?" and "and?"

To openly start a poll (Or is that pole?) just to rip a member of our community down is totally out of order.

No, Gossamer isn't one of my 'chums' here, and after this I doubt she will be for quite a while, but I wouldn't dream of starting such a fuss over what is essentially my opinion on a personal matter. Who know how our relationship will change over the coming months and years?

And if Gossamer turns out to be an alternative ID of Iceys that he's drummed up to generate some sympathy sex from the Boyz I'll personally drown him.

Hmmm, unless of course it turns out you're really Gossamer and made up the feud so you'd be able to swoop in here to defend Icey and appear the gallant knight ....?

*gulp* well I did vote in this poll before discovering the real reason for it.

I will echo some comments already made in that the flirty posts should have (and apparently do have) a separate space on the board and for the most part stay there. For those who don't like such post, they should just avoid them and stay with threads they do enjoy.

We can all get along.

Gossamer, I do think you owe Icefire an apology. Although Icefire's posts may have offended you, he never personally attacked you. You have personally attacked him.

The more I think about this - yup, I need a life! - the more annoyed I am. This person has started threads blatantly attacking one of our fellow posters vitually everytime he posts rather than try a subtler or intelligent approach by PMing (and don't get me started on the deleted "I hate Icefire" thread - all who saw it must agree it was pure poison!) and we're all mollycodling her, I'm gonna retract my earlier apology and state again FUCK OFF to Gossamer.

I hope you don't come back to irritate us with your ugly personality.

And I realise I'm setting myself up for the same in return by the Gassamer camp but I'm not bothered, I can't watch bullying (because thats what it is) and I've always had to do something when I see it.

Am I a hypocrite by saying 'don't look if you don't like it' then posting this rather brutal rebuke? Probably..... I just can't sit back and watch someone repeatedly insult someone who has been a decent reliable friend.

The "battles" were back on the old DCMBs, amigo, and they were quite one-sided -- I wasn't the one making several hundred posts of personal abuse. Compared to that, nothing of importance happened here.

In any event, I put an extended comment -- hardly a "ripping apart" -- in public for one reason and ONLY one reason: Reep did not permit anyone to send him either private messages or e-mails. I had NO other way to express it to him.

Grammar matters occasionally get me openly irritated, and I admit it. It happens about once a year, and it comes from caring about the marvelous tools of the English language. I'm not about to root that out of my spirit, but otherwise, I have apologized and will likely do so again.

This go-round, it was a deliberate idiosyncrasy on Reep's part, combined with arrogance -- as if we can't interpret polls ourselves -- and an unending number of polls. (Which ended up monopolizing the server. Reep is the main reason, it appears, for the current only-one-poll-each rule.)

In any event, I thought better of it later, with the thread encouraging much ado -- and all kinds of abuse -- about nothing. Nightcrawler let me correct my mistake by my removing the thread, before it would have fallen into the bit bucket anyway with the LW.net shutdown.

As for the current poll: This isn't the place for vendettas, and I hope Gossamer will ask the founders about removing this poll-and-thread of hers, as well. Private comments belong in PMs. (NO reasonable grounds exist, for me, for turning them off. You can delete any PM without reading it.)

Apropos of the Ambassador, we could call PMs "diplomatic mail." Personal matters can be brought up without involving others or disrupting their conversations. That's the height of diplomacy in a close-knit community such as this one.

I am disappointed that people are commenting on Icefire in this thread. It is not his behavior that needs this thread's comment.

Fruits of a poisonous tree. Yes, yes, I watch too much legal drama and am a bit liberal about applying the concepts. But if I encountered the face-to-face equivalent of the first few posts of this thread, that conversation would not get far. A mean-spirited approach lacks merit.

FC is usually happy but never with personal attacks on real people. I voiced my objections yesterday in the now-deleted thread and I'm still angry or sad or both, and everyone has expressed it much more eloquently here.

I don't know if this thread should be deleted because that could be like sweeping it under the carpet. It's better to acknowledge our differences, spats and battles and try to work through them, which seems to be happening.

Okay well I see eyoner has an opinion. I will now state mine as a gay male I know what intolerance fels like it's a big world and I feel it's big enough for all of us. I will admit that my flirting sometimes gets a little lewd but I do not deserve the personal attack. I have PM Gossamer and she will now avoid all threads started by me and I will try to stay on topic when posting in comic threads. She has said that she will take a few days off posting but I see no reason to be mean to her she is 17 years old and has never been exposed to gay men. I love this place guys and will e the first to defend anything you post but it ws not established so we could fight lets all get along. I come here to get away from the real world for just a little while I think we can all grow from this!!!! And I must say I don't want anyone to quit posting here no matter who but in my defense I have posted in many threads that have nothing nothing nothing to do with sex!!!!
