I’m not making this up, folks. Chuck and Gear break into Brainy's lab and steal an experimental batch of nanites to help them clean Legion World. Problem is, the nanites do the job too well and start consuming all organic life on the planet. Andromeda is NOT in this issue, only her photos. She's only one of many subjects of Brainy’s holo-pic collection that includes sexy pix of Andy, Dreamer, Spark, and "In-". The last name (presumably Invisible Kid) is only partially spelled out. Chuck and Gear find the pix by accident and blackmail Brainy with them later. Chuck and Gear try to use Superboy as the fall guy. Kon’s “filthy” personal hygiene is not only a central theme of this story, but the resolution to the problem. The guys make fun of Jazmin’s leadership skills. Later, Kon gets to spy on her having sex with Cosmic Boy. Cos apparently has a super-orgasm and his magno powers go out of control, pinning Gear to a wall on the other side of bulkhead. Guess it was Rokk’s very first time Sadly, we don't get to see anything good but Kon certainly does with his “super-vision”. Re. the Mekt vs. Garth question in the other thread, it definitely looks like v.4 Garth, but still crystalline, in some sort of hybrid costume I’ve never seen before (Ronda, did you color it?). I think DnAnK are just messing with our heads here. Silly stuff, some good laughs. Oh yeah, Giffen's artwork is truly wretched, imo.

Not bad, but probably could have been boiled down to 1/2 the length as a backup story. I just about fainted when I saw the first page in the infamous "9 panel grid." I liked the Giffen artwork, sort of. The characters were just a little too off-model, unfortunately.

Sounds, uh, interesting... a real break from previous stories, in any event.

It sounds hilarious!
I loved Giffins humour, I'm really looking forward to buying this on Friday now!
Legion Worlds NINE - wait, there's even more ongoing amazing adventures? Yup, and you'll only find them in the Bits o' Legionnaire Business Forum.

It *is* pretty funny. Here's some choice Giffen dialogue: CUB: Want to see me hock a loogie? (Yes, the little bugger speaks!) -------------- SUPERBOY: *THAT* came from my underoos?? -------------- BRAINY: Son of a reboot! -------------- Plus, Chuck's take on Jazmin, "all lips and hips" is hysterical

A nice break. Typical Giffen humor though a bit more juvinile then in past times. Plenty of "easter eggs" sprinkled about. Clever "villian" with a clever resolution. Not a DnA "Mr. Clean shows up out of nowhere and solved the problem," type of resolution. "all hips and lips"

I thought it was hillarious, but I'm not sure I like DnA's take on Chuck. He doesn't strike me as a slacker.
The art wasn't any worse than I thought it would be even though everyone looked like they were in their thities or forties. (Except Kon and Cub.)

I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. But I agree with matlock about it should have been a back up. In the Seventies and Eighties, it would have been. (With a nice Pat Broderick story before it ) And yes, they looked too old. I agree with Arachne as well about Chuck. Gear also didn't sound like himself. Maybe DnA lose a character's "voice" with each art team?

Oh! And kinetix over at the DCMB gave a good explanation to the "In-" bit, Inferno. I like that better than Invisible Kid. No one but Condo should be with Lyle. Also, I was disappointed that Andromeda didn't show. I thought for sure that she'd be re-introduced this issue. I even made the smilies for this issue -

I read it in the store, but wouldn't and won't buy it. It was funny enough, though I didn't quite do the roll-over-laughing DnA clearly expected from us when Cub offered to "hock a loogie." And all of this with the upshot of getting Kon into the shower? Cultural clashes. I guess.
The art, though, was truly ghastly. Keith Giffen isn't even trying any more. Chasms of professionalism yawn from the heights of the Harris & Feister cover, even with its overearnest silliness, to the depths of the interiors -- half of them in Giffen's inexplicably beloved nine-panel grid.
Greg Land's art in "Sojourn" also was on the stand this week, and I thought that putting it back-to-back with "Legion" in the same bag-and-board would cause spontaneous esthetic combustion. With that glorious craft in hand, why waste money on Giffen the has-been?

You have got to be kidding me. This issue was truly pathetic. The artwork was horrible and the comedy wasn't funny. This is real bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. If I weren't such a completist, I would ask for my money back - maybe double my money back, to compensate for the emotional trauma of reading it.

I enjoyed it. It wasn't laugh-out-loud funny, but I smirked most of the way through. Definately an "in spite of" the art though.
And I'm certain that omnicom message at the end was going to finish "in the nude" or similar.
[And, ignoring the fact that Andromeda was just plain ugly in those pics, she was posing. Those weren't survellance pics. Which begs the question of when the heck they were taken - nun-Andromeda wouldn't, her stint just before she got nunnified was brief, and the public only found out she was still alive at the very end of it. And she's not wearing a transuit, which rules out her earliest stint.]
And that cover was back-to-front. The bubbles should have been on the right hand side.

I liked the issue. The humor was low brow, the art matched the humor perfectly, and I'm all over low brow humor and art. Not only that, but I felt like these were people, not just comic book characters spewing out heroic lines and beautiful splash action that went three issues too long. As a one shot story, this made me want to turn the next page and see what was going to happen next... and I haven't felt that way since Sharn Nux disappeared.
I'm not crazy about the In- reference as it plays like an obvious attempt to jerk the Legion fanboy around while the writers laugh at us. I'm taking it as dirty pictures of Insect Queen in half bug form.
Was that a Twi Lek I saw? I didn't know Gif was partial to the GFFA.

I take it everyone noticed the Ambush Bug's antennae hiding behind the crowd...way to go Keith!
I have to admit that I was puzzled by the out of character manipulation by Chuck of Superboy.
It was funny to hear Cub's first words..."Want to see me hock a loogie?" Bwah ha ha ha ha ha!

Additional: I was disappointed in the art. Chuck looking like a blob with the bottom of his hair shaved? Wassupwitdat? He's not Bouncing Boy in this incarnation. He's rotundish but not blobby. But at least the horrid squinty eyes as found in the TMK era was kept to a minimum...regretably the same can't be said about the oversized pointy ears on Timber Wolf.
Oh and as for that Omnicom message...I don't believe it was meant to read Invisible Kid as some people might think...3 possibilities:...in the nude; Inferno; Insect Queen...'nuff said!

What a waste of paper. I want my money back.
I can't believe so many people liked it. I thought the art was abysmal and the humor wasn't funny at all. I also agree that Chuck was completely out of character. He's a responsible workaholic and he's devoted to the team. He is in no way a buck passer or a slacker. And I do think they were playing with us with the "In..." message.
Also, why is Legion World in shambles "The morning after the Darkseid crisis"? They didn't fight Darkseid on Legion World, they fought him on Apokolips. They fought Universo on Titan. Ra's al Ghul caused minimal damage during his brief ooze for freedom, and the Roboticans cleaned up after themselves on the way out of town. So, why all the wreckage? What am I forgetting?
My two cents' worth: This issue wasn't worth two cents.

When I first saw the art files for this issue I was horrified! Compared to Batista's sleek style they were a nightmare. But after a few days of constant bitching and complaining I actually started to get into it. Each book is a 2-3 week commitment for me, and so I appreciated it just as change of pace that forced me to work a little differently. Though I must have sent the poor editor a hundred emails saying "who is this?" and "what is that?"!!

LOL You should just have guessed/smothered the thing, like you tone down the inking on Jarth's crystal. Only on everything/everyone Just one Q, since I mentioned Jarth - was the red of the cape your idea?

On its own, I thought the issue was pretty decent. There were plenty of scenes that made me smile, though few that were as funny as Giffen's best stuff. I honestly think our own MLLASH's stuff is funnier, on average, than this issue turned out to be, but this was far superior to DnA's previous attempt at a humor issue.
The artwork was okay, but not great. Most of the characters did look at least 5-10 years older than they should. I like the 9-panel grid quite a bit myself, though, when combined with DnA's sparse storytelling, still made this issue seem about as dense as a normal issue should (if even that).
It was frustrating to finally get a spotlight on Gear and Chuck, and then to have both of them behaving so out of character.
I think the really sad thing about this issue is that it kind of shows how unfocused DnA have become on what they actually want to do with the Legion. This issue seems to come out of nowhere, and to be just completely out of whack with the rest of the series. Far from a creative team that seemed to have a genuine vision about what they wanted to do with the team when the series first began, DnA really just seem to have lost any coherent picture of what they want The Legion to be about, and are instead just throwing out a variety of stories trying to invoke the Legion's past.

The only jackets I've seen anyone wear lately are the red crew jackets like the cadets wear, so I just went with that. And I love that Tasmia is wearing a sweatshirt at the bar but battles evil is some strategically placed straps!

When are Abnett and Lanning leaving????
Why couldn't it have been before this issue?
I'm sorry but I grew very tired of Giffen's "humor" a long time ago and haven't gotten over of being tired of it yet.
The coloring was great, but the art stunk. Is it just me or does Giffen's faces look baggy?

The artwork and panel layout were classic Giffen Legion. At first I was a bit worried, but somewhere part of me was comforted by seeing it. Plus, I really liked that it looked like Keith was having fun with it.
Chuck and Gear were classic giffen characters. Sure, they were out of character from previous depictions in this boot, but at least they had character (as opposed to those previous depictions).
As far as Jarth goes, they probably just didn't want to spend another month hearing us wondering why he was wandering around in Element Lad's costume.
As far as why there's so much damage at Legion world, I don't know. I was going to ask everyone if I missed something.
As far as the whole issue goes, I appreciated it much more than the last two--plot-wise, at least. And I loved the In- tease at the end. The only thing that gave me chills was seeing that hourglass in the rubble.
