I remember my jaw dropping a bit in surprise when I read his initial comments about your issue, but, well, you can't please all of the people all of the time. Cliched but so very true.

But it looks like response here to your issue is 99% positive... a first around here, I think... I still think me and 'Binger were the ONLY ones who liked the recent DnA/Giffen issue.
Hey, I loved that issue and said so! wink

Gail, please stick around! It's been a blast having you here, and most of us are really appreciative!

And I really hope Gail sticks around! Especially when the feedback is so overwhelmingly positive--something that hasn't happened in a loooong time!

As I recall, I said some positive things about the Giffen issue, as well.

I learned the hard way to stay out of pissing matches between posters. I do want to say that I'm sorry Gail has let this experience turn her off the board. I've found her comments and inside remarks a pleasure to read, and I've enjoyed the fact that she's spent so much time here -- moreso than any other creator save Steve Lightle. Her dedication to interacting with fans shows.

I do understand why she would want to leave, however. To have one's integrity as a writer questioned, and then to have each attempt to respond be dismissed as quashing criticism would turn anyone off.

This is the reason Andy Lanning stopped communicating all together with the fans a few years ago. Which is too bad for everyone, b/c no one wins in that situation.

I have been reading this thread on and off for a while now. It has for the most part been a fun read with some thoughtful insights and some stretching questions. I though Gail was brave for coming in here and attempting to interact in many respects as if she was just one of the guys, when she must have feared that she was going to get slammed by people who didn't like her story.
I missed the posts that somehow have gone over the line and caused us to loose that interaction, and to be honest I don't really want to know. but I am sad that we as a group have (apparently) lost what was an enjoyable interaction because of things that were said in a public forum that perhaps should have been said privately.

Anybody else go "hmmm" at Trudy's outfit and the "Inferno" reference on p. 3?

Certainly did. Did Inferno end up back in the future? I can't recall if I sat through her limited series or not.

Nope, she satyed in the present. She's cameoed in big crowd issues since (like the all-teen-heroes in Young Justice 50-51 and all-female-heroes in WW 175), but that's pretty much it.

My views are my own and do not reflect those of everyone else... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

So maybe she's become a thousand-year-old inspiration for bitchy pop fashion figures everywhere?

Although I guess "thousand-year-old" and "pop fashion" are kind of oxymoronic...

So long, Gail Simone. It was fun while it lasted. Seriously, this whole argument was rather silly and unneeded. If the presence of a solitary negative and overly-sensative poster is enough to keep Gail from posting on these boards, what would have happened if say part 4 of her story arc was really, really bad and a dozen of us posters gave scathing reviews? It makes it difficult to give an honest evaluation when you know that the writer or artist is going to read your review.

C'mon, BB, wether or not you like her work, you have to admit it was a pretty cool thing for her to take the time and respond to each and every one of our comments and questions. That was very nice, and thanks for doing it, Gail!

We may also have to face the possibility that this was never Gail Simone at all, but was, in fact, good ole' Reep making a surprise return and unsurprising exit.

lol Super Lad Kid, I love the theory, far-fetched as it is.

Let me add my voice to those who are sad to see Gail go. I hope she will reconsider.

We should also look to ourselves. Except for Kid Prime and Drake (I believe) none of us spoke up when this started. (Forgive me if I've left anyone out). Perhaps if more of us had, this unfortunate exchange could have been nipped in the bud. I know I didn't say anything because (1) I hoped it would die down quickly, and (2) I didn't think it was my place to say anything. In retrospect, I was probably wrong on both counts. Perhaps we can all discuss somewhere how to properly handle situations like this in the future. The way I see it, we all have a responsibility to keep this board a welcoming place for all its posters.

People are going to disagree sometimes. And Gail is an experienced MB-surfer, not some quivering newbie. I figured she was tough enough to handle herself, so I said nothing except in defense of BB. I wanted her to know that BB wasn't a troll.

Of course, BB made a liar out of me with the completely uncalled for "talentless" crack, since deleted.

I think it's a shame Gail can't find the praise and adulation of 100 posters more of an incentive to stay here than she finds the wiseass cracks of ONE poster an incentive to leave.

But I understand. I've gotten good and torqued off in the past, too. We all have, probably. And we came back after taking a break.

Maybe Gail will too. I hope so.

The thing is... the situation kept seeming like it was going to fix itself. I thought it was over several times, only to come back and find that it seemed to have started up again.

I think there was really just a lot of shock at the fact it was occurring. BB has always seemed such a good-natured sort, that I just thought he'd know when to quit. And I thought Gail's skin should be thick-skinned enough to not let this phase her.

I still want to believe that this was largely just a matter of the two misunderstanding the tone of each other's posts, which got blown out of proportion.

Anyway, I really have enjoyed the opportunity to interact with Gail, and I hope she returns.

Semi may be right, that more of us should have spoken up. Yet, as EDE pointed out, most of us expected it would just die down of its own accord, especially after the interventions that were made by other members. Unfortunately, I think we can get into a he-said-she-said sort of debate, and 5 pages later, everybody's angry. Once the points have been made (and I thought KP summed up the situation well), why belabour the point? However, there may have been merit in more people verbalizing their concern about the tone of the comments exchanged. Unfortunately, the fact that one of the participants was a creator and something of a guest (even if not a celebrity like the KFC window guy) muddled the issue. I'm sorry to say it did for me.

Well, live and learn. That's what we're here for.

Same here -- it seemed to me like two people who each had to have the last word. I have no doubt they both fully intended to stop on more than one occassion, but couldn't help but respond when seeing the next post - and so it went on and escalated.

What's more disappointing is that this happened between one of our moderators (who should be trying to quell such arguments rather than foment them) and a writer, who's insights into this storyline added a lot.

I personally like the input of the creative teams on these boards, for explanations of specific events in the stories, behind the scenes info, and spoilers for upcoming issues. I would guess the majority of the 500+ posters here would feel the same way.

It's sad Ms. Simone felt like she was not welcome here BEFORE HER SECOND LEGION STORY even hit the stands. After many complaints by posters about creative teams in the recent past not responding to fans here at Legion World, this crap happens. Ms Simone said she is good friends with Mark Waid - it looks like we won't be visited by Legion writers now or anytime in the near future, especially after Mr Waid gets wind of this nonsense.

For the record, I want to state that some said opinions and comments here are definitely NOT necessarily those of everyone. I kept out of the original pissing match in hopes it would stop and go away, rather than acknowledge any side and fuel the fire, but some people couldn't just let it go.

Perhaps all the other people who are currently moderators should take a second to think about whether they would ever get drawn into a situation similar to this.

You know... one of the things I noticed about this situation is that we've had so few problems like this on Legion World, that I find myself pretty much perplexed as to how to handle stuff when we do have problems. At some point I actually remembered that we had a "strike" function, and could temporarily ban posters by using it, but couldn't for the life of me remember how to use it. Apparently it doesn't work against other mods anyway, but...

I was pretty shocked too when I came back to this thread and saw what had happened. I remember thinking that everything would be okay when I read the post Gail made calling for a truce. And I was really worried about speaking up about a misunderstanding between posters considerably older than I am. I'd say a lot of us were hesitant for reasons along those lines as well- Gail is a creator and BB had mod status.

I wanted to bang their heads together.

Actually that's a lie. It never got really personal quickly like we expect from "real" flame wars yet it never quite went away either - hopefully that'll be the end of this.

Gail, come back whenever you have time, you know we always appreciate you giving us some of your time.

BB, have a hug and get back in here already.
