Gail Please don't go. I think there really is a good possibility that you and BB got off on the wrong foot. If I may be a bit presumptous in my Jimmy Carter peace-making, I think where you two got started was when he said "My guess is that the writer didn't/isn't capable to think the SF aspects through that far." Even though he qualified that in the next sentence by saying "Time and future issues will tell," I remember wincing a bit when I read it, cause that remark seemed really condescending. I honestly don't think he meant it as such though. Then, you said "Yes, Blockade Boy, you guessed it, I'm too stupid to figure this out. Sheesh." Because you're really our celebrity on this thread, you couldn't very well say "Hey, Blockade Boy, I really didn't appreciate that comment on whether or not I have the capacity to understand sci-fi storytelling techniques. Frankly, you don't know me, and saying something like that really kinda hurt a bit." So you said it with self-deprecating humor instead. Now at that point, BB took that statement as something of a personal attack and in his next post said things like "You have an interesting approach to dealing with readers that do not rave at all your fine self writes," and "Grow or not, your business." And at that point, it was ON. Since then, it's been back and forth and back and forth. I would also point out that in that same post he said "I'm not the only one commenting that the story is fine, just not particular to Legion." Did he just say the story was fine? I think he did, whether he would actually admit it or not at this point. The thing is, I don't think BB meant that original statement as condescending as it sounded. I think it just came out wrong. I don't think Gail meant to embarrass BB so much, just to cover a bit of anger through self-deprecating humor. I think you guys can get through this. Anyways, everyone can tell me to "mind your damn business, you buttinski busybody!!!" I just hate to see MB fights that leave the combatants upset and weary, as is the case here. I dunno. I'll shut up now.

I think it all comes down to: Kid Prime is a busybody Jimmy Carter-loving jerk who won't mind his damn business, and he should shut up. I'll be waiting out back if you want to settle this!
And as Garth Ennis teaches us, the future is actually all about the heroic Hit-Man, and his beautiful sidekick Natalie.
Wait, I should probably say something about the actual subject of this thread in here, so: You know what I like? Lantern's the least humanoid of the villains but has the largest repertoire of darling future-slang. I like that. Now I can dream of how a 23rd-century Terran boy band was stranded on an alien world and set themselves up as gods, gifting the primitive inhabitants with a civilization cast in their own image.

I think we need to take a moment and remember that Facts of Life was a terrible, terrible show.
Hey, I'm fine, I've got the hand of peace out, I'm sorry for my part in it, hopefully BB knows I'm sincerely regretful for starting anything like this.
Now, can we please get back to how much Tootie sucks?

Gail Yeah, and Blair had crabs. Mrs. Garrett, in the very special episode where Tootie almost does softcore Egyptian porn:"She's a BABY!!! SHE'S JUST A BABY!!!"Moments like this make me so happy. Hee.

Another reminder that the future is not all roses and circuses is Wildfire's comment that the "city depends on the environmental and radiation filters". This sort of detail is nicely grim, but not too gritty.
Also, Chuck mentions getting a list of available legionnaires and cadets. Will we see the cadets in the next three issues? Babbage won't make the cut, but perhaps the Fox-like Creature could float onto the scene. I mentioned the Cadets in my post!!!! I also asked about Holey "MOLE"y. What does it MEAN???? RRRRRR!

By the way, forgive me for a little bit of hype about a book that was very important to me:
The kids' series I did for Marvel has apparantly been collected in a MARVEL AGE PRESENTS SPIDER-MAN'S PAL, GUS BEEZER! oversized magazine.
A lot of folks have wanted this collection for a long time, so I'm getting the word out. However, this book (priced nicely at $4.95, I believe), is a TARGET Store exclusive, not available in comic stores, I'm told. So you'll have to scoop it up if you see it. People have told me it's on the stands now, so I hope you'll pick it up...kids and adults have really enjoyed the series, and I hope you will, too.
Guest stars are Spider-man, the X-men, and the Hulk.
Best,
Gail

Still it seemed an odd (but intriguing) choice. I had to go look it up to make sure, but Blue Devil was a member of Justice League Europe.

Blue Devil was a member of Justice League Europe for *one* issue - Starman thirty-something (35?) and he died in it. (Before coming back to life in Day of Judgement.)
He was, however, a member of Justice League America for a while just before the Morrison relaunch.

Uh, a couple of quick things.
1) I still think that 'Devil' is actually the Batman of this particular group of 20th cent inspired neer-do-wells. It's the whole meticulous tactical planning, wears black, and names herself after something scary thing that makes me believe this. Then again, I wouldn't be shocked if she turns out to be Brainiac 4 in blue body paint.
2) Maybe the Green Lantern's powers still work because they are derived from the Starheart (ala Alan Scott) rather than some remnant of the Corps.
Oh, and Gail, I loved the issue and want to thank you for your hard work and willingness to play nice with us posters.

The villains are all named after heroes who had color in their names (Blue Devil, Green Arrow, Green Lantern and Black Canary), so it makes little sense to me that Devil is the "Batman of the group."
Just because they patterned themselves after said heroes doesn't mean they embody what they emodied or even understood their ideals. Blue Devil was a comical hero; Devil is scary and nasty. She's a corrupted version of Blue Devil, if you will --the anti-Blue Devil, maybe.

We've got a colorless Justice League here! 2) Maybe the Green Lantern's powers still work because they are derived from the Starheart (ala Alan Scott) rather than some remnant of the Corps. [/QB] This is an interesting idea. Actually, the power could be from nearly anything and Lantern is just using the name.

Well, guys?
Feel free to have any further conversations regarding Legion either at the DC boards or comicbookresources.com on the You'll All Be Sorry boards.
Sorry, but I think this mod has mad his point that I'm not welcome quite clearly, so:
Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone. No worries, I'm not hurt or offended, but frankly, when a mod is a troll, it's time to find greener pastures.
Best wishes, everyone!

Well, nuts.
Gail, the reponse is so overwhelmngly favorable for your issue, as you know. I and many others will miss your comments and responses here.
I am sorry you & Blockade Boy can't seem to find common ground to stand on.

Her earlier post about the "Sword of Damocles" reminded me of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Gail Gail, your presence on the board is too important to lose. [EDIT: Just for public record there is a post or two missing (deleted by mods) before Gail wrote the above, but after my last post . FYI.]
