SoM, Gail is on record as having stated the Legionnaires were "a little bit older". It's natural to ask how much older.

You know, if nothing else, I'm almost certain this is the most discussed issue we've had since Legion World began. 14 pages on the Legion forum review is about twice what we've been getting.

I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that a writer is actually interacting with us. It's been a long, long time.

Edit: I forgot about Keith and the last issue, but I guess that one didn't go over as well.

I know, but that seems to be a reaction to the art, from what she said, rather than anything written into the story.

There can't be more than a month or so's jump unless you really want to frell up Kon. It's on record that he'll have been here for "months" - and we've had at least two months already. Once you get over five-six months, it starts to make a big difference.

Exact timing I'm willing to fore-go on this one. It's one of the lesser evils so to speak. I'm finding the issue a bit more believable if I pretend I'm still twelve and reading Superboy and the LSH. Karate Kid is still a neanderthal that bashes like hulk and judges women based upon one look as opposed to the reflective searching soul he's been shown to have post-ZH. I've drawn sideburns on Jo, bell bottoms on Tinya and a stick figure of a khund disguised as an australian bureaucrat. It's working a whole lot better for me.

How do I account for insects that leep millenia at every attack and are now at civil war quickly approaching a never before obtained forty first level of godhood? Maybe they'll just kill themselves off or Jeckie will project an image of a huge can of Raid.

Now what I'm looking forward to finding out next issue is if Cham and Shikari REALLY learned perfect interlac in just a couple months or if they've just had their now disfunctional interpretor plugs turned on high.

Which one of the badguys is telepathic?

And most inconceivable, how could even the insane have anything against vibrating couches? Hmmm, unless it's a weakness?

The thing is, some people are so bent inside that they don't understand that vibrating couches are vital to our health and economy.

I have nothing by scorn for such people.

I wish I could have brought back the bell bottoms.

If bell bottoms come, can Pulsar Stargrave be far behind?

Worry about the year? What month was it? I think in 45 years of the future, we've seen one story in which it snowed in Metropolis (Ultra Boy's story in the 5YL series). Eternal summer shall reign over Earth!

I'm just glad to have some stories that seem to have the Legion feel again.

And, after seeing what You have done so far, Gail, i gotta say i am a little worried about the Waid run.

I know he has done wonders, and i expect it here as well. But still, i likes my legion to seem like the Legion. It hadn't in about ten years before you. Fun stuff, to be sure, but it just seemed to be missing something.

Aw, maybe he was just feeling sorry for her. The Persuader's daughter's face made ME want to puke too!

Seriously, though, Karate Kid's a hero and he'd try to save her even though he had no romantic interest in her whatsoever. Of course, the way he was talking to her does make it seem like he was attracted to her...

Yes, but the quote is about how long it took to become proficient, not how long he's been doing it.

If you recall (or were here at the time) there was quite some debate about the speech patterns of Cham, later Shikari. Some thought it normal that they be shown to have a learning curve, but more just seemed irritated by it. Me, I thought it more realistic to have a learning curve, which also allowed for some characterisation and exploration of cultural values, things missing from the recent EPIC Legion it seems to me.

As I recall, Cham's sudden ability to speak perfect Inerlac was reasoned that he had been kidding and knew it all along? Corrections please?

With Skikari, she is still shown with some "deficiencies" but the learning curve had been quite remarkable.

So now with Tech destroyed for a few issues, it could be shown that it was actually the universal translators responsible for their skills. Even if not, wouldn't you imagine in a city as COSMOpolitan as Metropolis, many get by with them and would be affected in that additional way by the tech "blackout?" One additional mess to the coming mess.

Yeesh.

BB, just so I'm certain...when you say KK is a neanderthal who judges women with one look, are you talking about this issue? I mean, I get that you're trying to be as insulting as possible, but before I respond, I want to make certain I understand what you're saying.

Thank you.

rickshaw, thank you very much. The response so far has been overwhelmingly positive both on the net and at DC, so that's pretty exciting. Really, all I wanted was to create a story that Legion readers of both eras would enjoy, along with hopefully bringing some people who hadn't read the book along. Don't have sales figures yet, so I don't know if there was a spike (no pun intended) or a drop or what, but the feedback has been way, way up there.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about Mark's Legion. I TOTALLY understand your concern, but the guy really does love the Legion, and what he's doing is very, very, very smart and interesting. I can't say any more or he'll kill me to death, but I think it's some of the best stuff he's done in ages, and DC is really behind it, so I tend to think he'll bring Legion back to the top tier of DC books, which will be great to see.

Best,

Gail

Not all along, no. Apparently he got proficient sometime around the formation of the Espionage Squad.

Pov, hopefully you got your issue...I got a lot of sellout reports, which is good and bad. frown

Drake, GREAT post. Especially this bit: Do they think they're somehow living up to the ideals of the old heroes?

That's definitely part of it...if you look at how skewed most peoples' opinions are of, say, old west outlaws like Jesse James (where a thug has been turned into a hero, almost, by Hollywood and other media), I think over a thousand years, we'd be looking at very skewed ideas of who or what some of the 'b-list' heroes would actually stand for.

Lance, I appreciate the sentiment...many thanks! But I strongly disagree with the DnA comments. I read a whole mess of issues in a row and it really made me feel bad that their run was over.

Super Lad Kid, thank you, glad you're having fun, and "Tinya sure is going to feel guilty about phasing when she did, won't she?" is an excellent point. Urgh, I shudder to think how I'd feel. Some of your other points will be addressed, I promise!

Hunt, that is a GREAT guess. smile

Nightcrawler, you rock. Thank you for your attention on the other thread, as well!

Jim, great point about Tinya's mom staying phased, however, I would say that she's too smart a politician for that. Politics IS perception, and her being phased (which does have a visual effect, as far as I can see) would appear to be cowardice to some, I think. And I think Brin IS just a little bit, well, maybe not 'vulgar,' but certainly uncouth. Besides, if we have girl cleavage, I DEMAND EQUAL TIME! smile

Awkward Pause Boy: Thanks, and "Oasis One was sure a bad idea on the part of the government." I guess SOME things are just a constant. smile Actually, Oasis One is representative of a few things I feel are slightly questionable about the time the Legion lives in, which is why it's a perfect symbol for this story, I think. It's this mammoth clump of society's cast-offs hanging like the sword of Damaclese right over the heads of the citizens. In a future this bright, you're going to have some dark elements, and my feeling is that the government, in its hubris, feels SO confident in its tech, that it has no problem sticking its forgotten people on a floating rock that you can't even SEE. Out of sight, out of mind. I don't normally ever discuss this sort of thing, preferring to just let readers make their own interpretations, but in this case, I don't know, seemed like it's worth mentioning. By the way, you're up in Portland and I go there all the time--what comics store do you recommend?

More soon! I WILL catch up! smile

Tsk! Haven't you been keeping track? We had a nice peek at Mon in his torn costume in Legion #32. But why be content with boy cleavage? Bring on more goodies like we got in Legion #20 and #34, I say. smile

That's a good point about Oasis 1 and governmental hubris.

You grace Portland with visits? Cool! I'd be happy to play host/tour guide if you're ever interested. I usually go to this store because it's nice and close. And I've gone to this other store when hunting to fill holes in my collection.

Gail
You've already responded, and again in a sarcastic fashion. You don't seem to GET much of anything. There's your insult. Happy?

You're apparently looking for personal insults where they don't exist. True I didn't like the issue but you wrote that you could handle that, in fact invited both positive and negative discussion. I made no personal references to you in ANY post until you started with the sarcasm directed AT ME. We were asked to stop the personal interchange. I stopped. I asked you to not refer to me, please stop.

Other posters, if they have a question or challenge on my (or anyone's) opinion will pose it, generally without insult. I begin to be sure that your actions are meant only to stop dissent and inhibit my interaction with others.

Please consider reviewing some of the previous issue threads, particularly later DnA issues and the Keith Champaigne. It isn't all rosey. It isn't even all constructive.

This board, this thread, we FREELY talk about the issue, whether we like the issue or not. We conjecture about the meaning of things that happen within the issue and what the effects might or should be. That should be seen as interest, not insult. We talk about consistencies or inconsistencies in characterization, story threads, Science Fiction and Fantasy, loose ends, even the color of Dr. Gym'll's skin. That's what happens here.

Generally, there is no attempt by the owners, the mods (of which I'm one), the other fans, and certainly not by the writers, to inhibit another poster's opinions through insult, sarcasm, or any means.

If my review so interests you, it can found over on rogerburk's thread on the DCMB/Other DC Universe Topics/July 14th: Rank the comics you read this week.

I found myself jarred out of the story on several occasions. I've explained several of those on this thread so that others could challenge or correct perceptions with facts or concepts I may have missed. Not easy to do when you're the lone gun. I've conjectured what the effects of some of the aspects of the story might be. Again, that's interest, not insult. Yes, we sometimes pretend this all will be real and conjecture on how it might turn out. We do not normally wait for the entire story to publish before commenting.

These are not insults. These are opinions on the story. Please accept this.

Blockade Boy, honestly, how about if you accept that I stopped caring what your opinion was when it became clear you were just sniping because your pride was hurt when you weren't given sufficient awe for your astounding (if factually erroneous) complaints?

You're taking things very personally and acting in a weird passive/aggressive manner AND you've been so wrong in some of your 'insights' that I have to eventually say, here's a guy who is not really conversing. I tend to just say what I really feel and that's worked out swell for me so far, so you don't need to read anything into my words, when the meaning is plain to see. It's like you're dying to fight, for reasons only you can know.

You'll notice that others have had complaints and I addressed them or admitted I was wrong, or pointed out that there are still three issues to go. In Fantasy Land, your posts are civil and intelligent. Here, well, why are you the only one pitching a fit? The other posters are having fun, I'm having fun...no hard feelings of any kind, except for you, as far as I can see. Even now, if you want to drop this, I'm fine, and I swear in two days I'll forgot we ever had a disagreement. My memory sucks, and this stuff just doesn't stick with me very long, I'm afraid.

Be as snippy as you like...I asked a question, you can't seem to answer it, fine, just admit it. Don't blame anyone else. It's your post, either take responsibility or admit it's just hot air. Or don't, it's your business. If you want me to say you're right when you're not even close, you're gonna have a long wait, though.

I think you've been insulting on several occasions, and others have agreed. If you don't know the difference, nothing I say will change that.

Did anyone ELSE think KK was a neanderthal in this issue, who judged women with one look? I frankly find that a bizarre interpretation. My question was simple...if you're not referring to this issue, fine. If you are, then I think I have a right to say that's one extremely odd interpretation. God knows where it came from because it sure doesn't seem to be in the actual comic.

I leave it up to you guys. Read his posts and tell me if his comments aren't meant to be insulting, condescending (if not factually sound), and a bit rude. I'm enjoying talking to you all, but if the consensus is that I'm somehow stirring up trouble, I'll gladly skedaddle and anyone who wants to talk Legion stuff can visit at comicbookresources.com. I'm not saying I'll take my ball and go home...I really do realize that I'M the guest here, and this is a long-established hangout. I don't want to mess that up.

Never once have I ever asked anyone here to tone down their comments, nor will I ever, so you might want to peddle your GAIL SIMONE IS QUASHING DISSENT theory somewhere else. Calling this a molehill is really insulting to molehills.

Just a few thoughts.

Everybody else, my apologies. I got roped in, somehow. Hey, who wants to bet that BB keeps this going, and in fact, trashes me on other websites after this? And eventually, threatens to leave in a big dramatic huff but stays anyway? That's the usual pattern, as I've observed.

Actually, is there an ignore function? Maybe a mod can help me, here. I'm enjoying talking with all of you, but I don't really have time to spend on goofy straw men arguments right now.

By the way, just so it's 100% clear, PLEASE feel free to continue to post as you always have, including hate rants when necessary or earned. wink

Criticism is always welcome, I think everyone here knows what BB is doing is something quite apart from that. Or I suspect most do, in any case!

Best wishes,
