No, Pinter doesn't have implants, he's got real (stolen) organs. It's the artificial organs that are failing.

Did anyone else notice thath the Persuader was in Oasis Caell ADV 352? Is this a reference to Adventure Comics #352? Is that possibly the issue the pPersuader appeared in? I don't have that issue in my collection so I can not check it. Does anyone have Adventure Comics #352? Maybe I am just grasping at straws, but it really struck me as something I should know. Anyone? BTW, loved the issue!!!! Can't wait for the rest of Gail's run.

Good catch! That's the issue the Fatal Five first appeared in.

BTW, I don't have the issue either, I just looked it up in the Legion Help File .

Yes, Persuader's first appearance is ADVENTURE COMICS #352.

Pinter's organs are one hundred percent stolen, organic, free range goodies. The average implanted organ is artificial and we have to assume is computer controlled, although what that means in a thousand years, who knows? smile My feeling is that artificial organs are probably much more efficient, but need some sort of regulatory tech, which makes them vulnerable to the unthinkable.

"My guess is that the writer didn't/isn't capable to think the SF aspects through that far. Time and future issues will tell. Since Canary's powers have not been defined, any reasoning can still be created for their ability to distinguish between 21st century tech and "future" tech. It could be as simple as magic or inventing a "new" tech upon which future power distribution depends. "

Yes, Blockade Boy, you guessed it, I'm too stupid to figure this out. Sheesh.

I'm swamped with a Simpsons deadline still, but many many thanks for all the great comments. So far it looks like one of the most positive responses to a Legion issue in a good while, and we're getting terrific responses from people who haven't read the book before, which is very fun. Thank you on behalf of the team for this arc!

Arrow's gun is an artifact (it says so on the case), relying on no energy or computer components beyond basic gunpowder combustion.

"I'd imagine the inside of his suit contains some kind of force-field generator or something, to contain his energy output and help him give himself a consistent humanoid form...it can't be just a big bag, can it?"

That's exactly what I'd been told by Legion experts...that the containment suit was quite a complicated piece of technology, hence, not allowing Wildfire to go down. Pretty simple, I should think! Good point, Silicon, and nice catch on the song. wink

About the slightly older Legionnaires, Dan was determined to draw them as a little bit older, partly because he coaches sports and the high school kids are much bigger now than they used to be, but also because we deliberately wanted to do a story that would evoke both the current and classic legions, even in a small way. A lot of people have tremendous fondness for both versions, and this is the last chance to pay tribute to loyal readers of both, if that makes sense.

I'll be posting more soon, but I did want to say I had a blast with this arc, and BB notwithstanding, would love to write the Legion again sometime (and yes, we did mess up on the date, dammit...big apologies). I'm kidding, BB, sorry you didn't like it, but no harm done.

Best wishes to everyone, and lots more soon! Obviously, we want to keep some secrets...but I'm really delighted to have had this opportunity and thank you all for the tremendous response!

Actually, it shouldn't say that on the case - it'd be the equivalent of writing a "DANGER: DON'T TOUCH" sign in Chinese, then expecting yer average American to read it smile It should be in interlac.

Did... Gail just say what I think she just said?

I think we may have final confirmation...

I wonder if Arrow could use that at the trial. "Illegal to modify for live rounds?" How was I supposed to know that's what it said!

I think the mixture of English and Interlac on the Musuem of Anthropology was effective, however.

I'd say you're right, SoM. We're looking at reboot this winter.

That's why fans should not get too picky anymore about continuity and what's happened before (Wildfire's suit, Naltorian precogs, Tasmia and Val's personalities,etc.). It's pretty standard that comics are anymore made for the moment, not for consistancy. All the readers who used to complain about the confines of a DC Universe have been heard.

Some other observations:
1) Persuader, as well as Karate Kid, has been portrayed as oriental in the past. Legion Who's Who #2 list his name as Nyuen Chun Ti of Earth.
2) The Mission Monitor Board behind Gear (pg 15) shows M'Onel's panel out, but Dreamer's on. Mistake, or is M'On in the vicinity?
3) Theory - The camera hitting Prez Wazzo was really Taan, her Durlan aide, who then took her form as the real Winema phased through the floor. Taan, as Winema, could not turn immaterial to save himself from the assassin.
4) Of the four new villians, the Lantern intrigued me the most. Where does he get his power (he can't be a Ringer, or the spike would affect his tech as well?). He is my vote to most likely become a new Legionnaire in the next version - once his Hate issues are dealt with.

I didn't notice Dreamer, but as I mentioned on the L35 CTR thread

That was the holostatue, not the Legionnaires, which was why they faded out. [And Lar's apparently gone to the Valor suit full time, if it's being displayed so publicly. Damn. And all the consquences off-panel to boot...

That said, someone should have told either Andy Smith or Ronda that too, since they frelled up the Monitor Board panel [with Gear], showing M'On and XS's symbols dark.

And why was Thunder's L-bolt on the board, for cripes' sake?

That really sums up the issue for me, really. It hit most of the broad strokes, but the details - Val & Umbra's too-casual speech patterns are another - just weren't there.

Now why was Arrow singing Verdi? Cuz he likes old music or because he's comparing himself to the Hebrew slaves?
My guess ? Because Verdi means "green" in Italian.

Thanks for the Verdi translation/reference, Silicon Dream. It suggests that Arrow (and Lantern, by extension?) are on Devil's team for ideological reasons, not just to raise hell or pick off a few Legionnaires/SPs.

Nice touch that Verdi = green, as well, Trapper.

Since Organ Thief's organs are the old-timey kind, could he share a similar concern about tech reliance? Or driven by financial considerations? Surely he would have to pay some black-market medical centre to do the transplants. Will Pinter join the good guys, the bad guys or just take care of Pinter?

(You'd think they'd have universal access to health care by the 31st century, but we know that Dr. Gym'll has a history of demanding payment... I guess what can you expect from a society that's prepared to do an blanket kill on the Oasis prisoners?)

Given the number of organ replacements Pinter has, it appears as though he just replaces his organs for the hell of it, or else he engages in activites that must do major damage to his body.

Why? If he's putting them in himself, he must have major organ-rejection problems...

Yes, Blockade Boy, you guessed it, I'm too stupid to figure this out. Sheesh.

You have an interesting approach to dealing with readers that do not rave at all your fine self writes. Much like your approach to LOUD's comment over on the DCMB, this one seems more an attempt to put a reader on the defensive than to address or ignore the point made. A simple "time will tell" would have left me with both more reason for anticipation and a better opinion of your personality.

It is the nuance of this board to conjecture the writers INTENT as well as past work, then later compare predictions with reality. You will not find a post where I wrote that I did not like the issue. You will not find a post where I kiss your ass. It's entirely impersonal analysis, questions, and wait and see. Hence the quote

"Time and future issues will tell."

Kitchens and heat!

As for more reasoning behind my comment, it is not unusual to have a writer deal very well with SF aspects and not deal with characterisation. Is it a leap of logic to conjecture the reverse? Your issue one reads to me at best as mediocre fanfic. As one example, fanfic indicated by the nice little easter eggs for us oldtimers but also by a choice of team that includes your stated favorites but none of the founders or RJ at a major presentation honoring Legion. The plot itself has yet to identify itself as being something that required a future setting nor Legion. I'm not the only one commenting that the story is fine, just not particular to Legion. Perhaps that will change with the other three issues, perhaps it will not. Perhaps you will agree with it, perhaps you will not. Grow or not, your business.
