Actually if I remember correctly now, the the 2006 SDCC admission badge is good for free admission to APE in April but I think you'd still have to pay for Wondercon. Wondercon is just like 10-12 advanced ticket per day or 30 for all three days so it's fairly reasonable.

So a really good San Francisco based non-comic friend is gonna go New York Comic-Con later this month for work. I'm so tempted to tag along now! Argh...

I might go to the NYC Comic-con on 2/23, because Stephen Colbert is going to be there, and I'm sure lots of the big DC and Marvel execs will be too. Maybe. Depends on if I get more excited about it.

NYCC has stopped selling Saturday only tickets. Only way to get in on Saturday if you don't already have a ticket is with a three day weekend pass which is still available.

Less than three hours before the SDCC travel booking begins.

Argh, I don't know where I'll be/what I'll be doing this summer so I didn't book and they sold out in minutes!

Wondercon's schedule is up at Newsarama . I have to say that, while I'm looking forward to the weekend (especially Jimenez and BKV!), I'm disappointed that Marvel isn't going to have much of a presence. Oh well, at least I can stalk Mark Waid some more. He likes it, I'm sure...

I'm pleased to report that this year's katsucon was a success.

It's a great start to this year's con season.

I hope you saved your San Diego badge, Cali... as a one-year membership, it should also get you through the door at Wondercon (as well as APE in April, if you're so incluned).

Mmm katsu...did y'all discuss different breading and frying techniques?

Con season for me starts with Wondercon in a week and a bit, Wizard World LA in less than a month. For Wondercon, Legion friendlies that I can see: Gene Colan (couple of issues in the 80s), Joyce Chin (issue of Legionnaires), Nick Cardy (cover work), Tony Harris, Phil Jiminez, and Mark Waid.

Looking ahead to San Diego, did anyone book a hotel room it turns out they don't need? My three potential roommates and I all tried to get rooms when they opened, but none were successful. Or does anyone need a roommate or two?

Just called the San Diego travel agency today.

There was an automated message saying that the con is trying to get more rooms and will let people know in a few weeks what's available.

They were taking names and e-mail addys.

I'm currently booked in two rooms right now: The Holiday Inn on the Bay (Wednesday and Thursday) and the Sheraton Valley (The other days). The latter's six miles away and I'm on the waiting list for a better location but I doubt I'll hear anything for a few months.

On the plus side, I booked as two people in the off-chance that someone would need a room. So I do have room for at least one person. But given my situatiuon, the best bet is probably to go through the travel agency first and see what they come up with.

Yeah, I'm not totally roomless. A friend booked a couple rooms at regular rates and said I could have one. I just hate to pay the regular rates. I won't have any money left for comics!

Thanks for the waiting list tip. I'll get on it tomorrow.

Are you sure? Is there a way to check that? It is a new Con season and everything.

the same org runs these cons. I'm pretty sure membership lasts until immediately before the next San D in July. I remember when we were all sitting around on the back deck, I (or someone else) pointed this out, as several people mentioned going to Wondercon in spring '07.

If you can find your badge or other registration materials, it should say. I'll dig for mine as well to double-check.

This badge entitles you to the benefits of the Comic-Con International Association membership through June 30, 2007. Benefits include information updates and invitations to special Association-sponsored events and access to a special members-only ATTENDEE section of our website.
Then, it went on to give a username, password, the website and some more contact info. I went to the website but couldn't find the so-called members-only ATTENDEE section thing. I tried calling their hotline but it was a message service, and I wasn't sure what (if anything) to say.

I'm just nervous to try and show up with only my badge and barcode from SDCC to back me up. I don't wanna have to pay full price and what if they're sold out?! Very confusing. I emailed them to ask, but I dunno what's up.

So I don't think I'm making it to the NYC Con. I was thinking of trying to 'sneak-in' or just be in the area at the bars to see if I bumped into anyone (yes, that's right, I was gunning for you Joe Q and JMS--I'm a Spider-Man fan and I still want an explanation for that Gwen thing laugh Devil ).

But alas, I've made other plans with one of good friends who I never get to see. Ah well, the Stephen Colbert/Cobie team-up will have to wait until next year.

The Man sayeth that you must buy a ticket for WonderCon regardless of whether or not you went to SDCC. So buy it I did.

I don't care, though, I'm super excited! laugh MEL, you wanna meet up at all? (I still have your number but PM me if you need mine.)

Anyone else planning attendance? I'm so psyched about BKV, Waid, Jiminez and a bunch of others. laugh Too bad Geoff isn't gonna be there, though... wink

Need to ask a favor of anyone attending a con this year:

Mattel's DC Super Heros line of 6" figures sculpted by the 4 Horseman is, by license, limited to just the Bat & the Boy Scout and their families.

PLEASE talk to the reps at DC and Mattel. Ask them to expand this license to include the entire DCM. The more people that, politely, offer a desire to have this license expanded the better chance of DC and Mattel listening.

Mattel does have a license for The DC Super Friends and the new Battle League seams to be the most expansive license. All the Battle League figures are 4HM designs so it gives you a feel for what their 6" line could become.

Thanks All
