For comics you got free, check out this thread

Now, what about those you've gotten nearly free?

Me? My first LSH purchases (early 80s) were from the dime bin.

I haven't been able to beat that deal, but an overwhelming majority of my LSH collection was bought at 2, 3, 4 for a dollar.

Twenty-five cents for Superboy starring the Legion of Super-Heroes #210. Of course, I bought it brand new, off the rack and that was the cover price. I'm sure I've picked up cheaper over the years but that's the one that sticks with me.

Most of my Levitz Legion collect came from the quarter bins when I was a kid. Some I may have paid $0.50 for but most were a quarter.

I picked up Nigh on EVERY Legion comic from 1981 to the last issue of the reboot Legion, plus who's who, Legion Worlds, etc, AND L.E.G.I.O.N (not R.E.B.E.L.S though) - with only the ocasional gaps of an issue or two for around a hundred bucks off Ebay. bargain?

CIRCA 1978, I obtained 100+ 1960's DC Comics, including:

25+ Adventure Comics, issues of Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane, Superman, & Action Comics.

All in great condition, for the grand old price of $5 for the lot, at a local garage sale. (Thanks Mom!)

That is $.05 each.

So that makes $.10 for the Death of Ferro Lad issues, that totally changed my reading experience forever!

28 years later, STILL a huge fan.

My first 2 Legion comics (in fact, the ONLY 2 Legion comics I got in the 60's) were the ADVENTURE issues with "The Rogue Legionnaire" and "The Unkillables". The first had no cover, the 2nd had half a cover. I'll be honest... I don't recall if I got these from the corner store (if so, 10 cents apiece) or from my barber (if so-- FREE!).

What luck that both were by Jim Shooter, and had art by Curt Swan & Jim Mooney-- both of which I loved! Getting the Archives decades later, anything that wasn't by these guys seemed pretty lame by comparison.

When I was in college - there was a local second hand bookstore that sold comics for 10 cents each. The only problem was that sometimes they wrote the price on the cover
I picked up a lot of the Superboy issues with Cockrum stories for that price including Superboy & the LSH 197 which had a big 10 marked on the cover. I kept it for years until I found a better copy at a comic show.

I've got a few bargains at the Bristol conventions over the years, but most of the Legion comics I've got I got just for the regular price at the comic shop. That being said I did get the three issue 'Who's Who' (or possibly SF&O) where they were trying to find the son of Brande so they could cure him for £1.00 and a couple of issues starring the Subs (one was a DCCP I think with a second story featuring Doctor Light and the other was an issue with the Subs and Superman and Ambush Bug) for £1.00 as well. I was quite pleased with both of those purchases. smile Completely unrelated to LSH but I also got the full 90s version of JSA and the mini set back in the 40s (again from the 90s I think) for £3.00 which is probably my best bargain to date. laugh

I bought some of the Superboy issues (with the Legion as the backup story) for the original cover price of 15¢.

The best bargain for me was finding the giant sized Lightning Lad/Saturn Girl wedding issue, which I had missed when it originally came out. I bought that in the mid-eighties for the original cover price ($1.00 or $1.25)
