If we missed you earlier, welcome to Legion World!
I saw your name and thought you might be Shark Lad with a new persona. Maybe you are. It can get a little confusing around here....

Welcome Giant Squid! You might recognize me from the statues of me all over Legion World! I'm really quite modest, I just have so many fans...

Wow, my own thread! Thanks guys, this is the best welcome I've ever recieved! I lurk during the work in the daytime, so that's probably where you saw me Fat Cramer!
Thanks everyone, I'll be posting when I can! I think I have an idea for my very own thread.

A shame Giant Squid remained unregistered as it was a Krakenly good Username

It was so great, that the original user had to give it up!

I hope someone else didn't stop it from being used. That would have been nautilus of them.

It would have forced The Poster Formerly Known As Giant Squid (TPF-KAGS) to fish around for another user name. As we can see, TPF-KAGS didn't manage to find one that meant something to him/her. One that came from that heart, that spoke form his/her shoal.

I kind of miss the days in which we used to greet every new poster with their own welcome thread.
Of course, lots of them never actually posted, so it ended up being kind of pointless.

It's just one of those endearing things about Legion World. Reaching out and making everyone welcome. Whether they post or not, they can take that welcoming glow back into their lives.
(resists typing ..."without realising that the glow was actually from Radiation Roy's crossover visit.")

Of course, we also have posters who absented themselves for a while before showing up again and becoming very active...

And what were the things on LW that made you become very active again?

I do find the phenomenon of zero-post members to be really weird. I mean... why go through the effort of registering on a site and then never posting on it? It's not like there's a whole lot of functionality to the boards that you get by being being a member rather than an unregistered lurker.

I think just having people take the time to register adds a depth of support for the board. Then you get to lurk in the comfort of your own user name. You never know what’s going to prompt that first post. A fair number of folks like certain boards/ subjects but look to ease themselves in. Or they want to be part of it but are reluctant to post. Or they are simply happy to have a cool Legion username and lurk away. And who wouldn’t want a cool Legion name? Besides, random happy birthdays, welcome threads for users that register might be the thing that starts off some posting. Somewhere I’ve got some snapshot posts for a Bits story. It’s called Zeroes and the plot is a murder mystery centering around the deaths of some of the usernames that never got to post. Where the searchlights of Cobalt Kid’s Security Office are distant, and the Post-a-thon booths are broken, who will help to find the killer of those with no posts to their name?

There are also some posters who register, introduce themselves on the introduction thread, and then disappear.

Some posters dive right in. Not for them a letter of introduction, never mind an introductory post. There are rumours that some don't even have a chaperone!
