I think trying to pick a definitive cutoff point is a hopeless task. Just think of it as "inspired" by the pre-Crisis era.

I don't think we even know if Garth and Imra have any kids.

There has been no mention PLUS Cos' comment about breaking up with Lydda (that is Nightgirl right?) seems odd if Garth and Imra have kids in that they are clearly still active in the Legion, so if they can do it with a family than it makes little sense that Rok couldn't date just because he's leader (again). So my impression is no kiddies for Garth and Imra. But maybe they do and it will be mentioned later.

Garth and Imra had kids during the Eye for an Eye story, which we know is canon as we have heard repeatedly that Val "died and came back." Further proof of this is that Ayla still has her lightning abilities, and Nemesis Kid is still dead (so far).
My guess is whichever son they might still have is laying low with Imra's family. I would've said Garth's parents but that was before I found out they were dead.

I would guess that Graym is with Imra's family, as Sarcasm Kid says, but it would be nice to have that mentioned. There's no reason to believe (or disbelieve) that Validus will be revealed as Garridan Ranzz in this reboot. It would seem very cumbersome to have to go through a whole story to repeat the big reveal, and it would be very weak to have it occur off-panel. I can see why they'd want Validus in a big all-hands-on-deck supervillain hoedown, but it just plays more havoc with the Ranzz family.

Well I figured Garth not being able to see his son ever since the whole JLE thing started is one of the contributing factors to his new anger.

I'd really like to see it played out that Validus is revealed as the lost Ranzz twin but not restored right away. Then it ads to the drama whenever he goes on a murderous rampage. Legionnaires trying to contain him, others searching for a cure. Brainy conflicted, because Validus killed his best friend. I just think there was a lot of great story potential there and they threw it away.

Considering how coldly Brainy gave Computo a Validus-like form after the Conspiracy story, I doubt sentimentality for Lyle would have been a big factor for Brainy in any Validus-related storyline.
I do hope that at least Graym is revealed in this story to exist. The Time Trapper wasn't such a bad-ass until he kidnapped Graym in the Legionnaires 3 mini-series.

Like it or don't, that was his first appearance in which he was actually SCARY. Messing with the Legionnaires' minds. BTW, here's a link to an interview with George Perez discussing Lo3W at the NYC Comic Con. He's still in the middle of drawing issue # 4. Damn, we're never going to see the end of this one. http://www.newsarama.com/common/media/video/player.php?aid=25936

Legionnaires 3 was a four-issue miniseries of the Legion founders fighting against the Time Trapper, after he kidnapped Graym in an attempt to get Legion secrets out of Garth, who he viewed as the "weak link" of the founders. Graym was the bait and Garth was the catch.

Candle, it was a miniseries that ran around... 1986 ? Levitz wrote it, Ernie Colon did the art. It's the Founders vs. The Time Trapper.
My copies are three time zones away, unfortunately.
[ETA-- Thanks, Sarky. So what's your opinion ? Thumbs up or down ?]

I don't know who the Validus character in the . Legion is...but the Darkseid origin still works(althought he conclusion is retconned out)...
We never knew how old Validus was, or how far back in time Darkseid sent him...Validus in the time of the Legion could be a thousand years old for all we know.

Set, to me the deal with Prime is as simple as him being a creature that does not fit this reality. What makes Superman, Superman, aside from his powers, is his perfect sense of right and wrong for the Universe he inhabits. Superman always seems to know exactly the right thing do and seldom goes against that instinct...
In the case of Prime you have a character from a previous reality where things were more black and white(even on his superheroless Earth) plus he gained his powers in adolescence which is usually an extremely idealistic time...
So he came to this fantasy reality where all these characters he idolized were real, and he was quite heroic and sacrificed everything to save it, like any Superman would...
But that reality was overwritten with was a shades of gray reality, a reality at odds with his black and white sense of right and wrong.
And he knows it was sort of an abomination reality, a broken reality, a splicing together of multiple Universes. And on top of that, his Universe died, and any Superman is going to feel responsible for that.
So what does Prime conclude? Bring the multiverse back, bring his Universe back...it only sounds insane to those who weren't really around in the previous reality, or don't remember just how drastic the change was.
So he tries to do that, he's not out to kill anyone or destroy them, at least not permanently...and in the process he is attacked by the Titans and accidentally kills several of them, something a Superman never does, and he snaps. His black and white view of good could not accept what happened...and from that point on there was no turning back for him.
At that point this pseudo fictitious reality he found himself inhabiting became every bit the nightmare to him that he is to it...and he simply wants to erase it, and bring what was before back. That's the only way to fix thing in his black and white view...to fix him even.
So is he truly insane? Or he simply wrong for the reality he finds himself in...wrong sense of right and wrong, way too powerful...and he knows you can just sort of reboot the whole thing and fix it, make it better, bring everyone back, he knows you can do that because he's seen it done. Not insane at all really...just out of his element, in a nightmare reality in which he is evil(as much as by chance as by intent)...
As for the time in limbo making Superman look weak, not really, Kal-L was there and he didn't snap. It's not just Mon-El that makes him look weak in any case...Alex Luthor's reaction makes him look unstable, in fact everyone this side of the Psycho Pirate makes him look extremely unstable in comparison.
As for Mon-El VS Supes, simple case of an introvert VS an extravert. Superman can't be both, and since he's obviously the extravert...the introversion(botht he strenghts and the weaknesses) are Mon-El's...and in fact the problem hasn't been with DC making him weaker, it's been that they try to turn him into a carbon copy of Supes. The same sort of hero. But Mon-El needs to be somethinng different, as he always was, and both characters, and the Legion, and the DCU, are the better for it if handled that way.
JMHO.
